I have the old surge and prefer it over the new style. In this new Surge: my water bottles fall out of the side "cups" that are supposed to hold them in place, the bag feels stiff as if I can fit less in the bag, it sometimes makes a faint squeaking noise when I'm walking with it on my back, and I dislike the shoulder straps because of the thick straps fully connecting to the frame of the bag, there is a thin "connector" piece that I wouldn't be surprised if it tore/ripped with excessive use. I do love the green and red/orange combination, although, from the picture, I thought the green would be lighter. Overall, I am pleased with my choice because I am a repeat customer because of the backpacks' quality.

This backpack is used to haul all of our daughter's heavy textbooks and accessories to and from school. She has an hour scho bus ride each day and has extra room to pack things to do. Absolutely love it.

Had to have a bag that all my nursing books would fit in and provided good support to my shoulders and back since they are so heavy

I am a law student and needed to upgrade my North Face Slingshot I had gifted to me back in approx 2008, it still functioned but had seen better days (used for high school and parts of college). I wanted a backpack that was just as large to fit my large textbooks and 3 inch binder.
While this bag has many pockets to keep you organized, compartments are not very large. I was lead to believe from the website this was the largest bag available (with the exception of hiking bags). I do love the coloring, style and comfort, but it does not fulfill its needs as well as the older models in terms of fitting large bulky books.

Really love this product. Being a college student with several textbooks, the backpack feels great. Fits both my textbooks and 15" laptop comfortably. I highly recommend this product to students.

using it for school, great product. Having a lot of room for books and other school supplies, but it is a little heavy bag.

I am in law school right now and I bought this backpack after my old one broke (not a north face) and I love it, totally worth the money.

I like the bag, it is stylish, compact, and very comfortable. My issue is that the zippers don't work well and they are very "rough." They snag, take a lot of force to close, and do not move smoothly. Its not enough to make me return the bag because I like everything else about it, but the zippers do not match the price and quality you'd expect.

great size, opens wide to accommodate large binder or laptop. Designed to fit a woman's body comfortably, padded for comfort, reinforced for strength

This year I was very in need of a new backpack for college. After some searching I came across this one and it was the best thing that ever happened. I'm absolutely in love with it! One of my biggest concerns was being able to fit all my big books and notebooks in it and with this backpack that is not a problem. There are lots of convenient pockets to hold all my pens, pencils, highlighters, snacks, etc. I'm also able to fit my planner in with my laptop so it's not getting torn up by the bigger binders and books. I am a college softball pitcher so carrying a heavy backpack usually causes quite a bit of pain on my shoulder. But with the design of this backpack it is very comfortable and I've had no pain in my shoulder or back!
Also ordered the Zinc Grey/ Surf Green color and was a little hesitant to how it would look in person. But I love the color!

My teenage daughter picked this out to use for her school backpack. Nice padding on the arm straps and back. Lots of compartments to keep your school items organized. The laptop/tablet section is elevated so it won't hit the ground when placing the bag down on it's bottom.

I use this product primarily for travel and work. But I also utilize it for day to day activities to hold baby supplies - much more convenient that the traditional diaper bag!

This pack fits amazing! I have 3 classes with rather large texts and a binder full of notes that I have to take (some classes restrict laptops). I feel like the more weight the easier it is to carry - if that could be true. It has many compartments to keep your cell, sunglasses, pens, and laptop safe. I even got complimented on the color the first day of class. This bag saved my life at CSULB!

This is a great backpack. It is large enough for me to put everything I need in it but it's not to big to carry. It is extremely comfortable and I love it.

As a dancer, I have long days where I don't go home. Therefore, I need a backpack that can hold everything I would need in a day.
