The pants themselves are comfortable. The only problem I have is the placement of the zipper for the conversion to shorts. When bending the leg it digs into my thigh and is uncomfortable.

I gave this product a good and true to size, however, I have bigger thighs and the zipper part that separates the pants/shorts is a bit tight. Other than that I have NO issues with the product and they are very comfortable.

These were exceptionally comfortable and flattering, but I had to send them back because the legs were a little too tight only where the zipper part was located. Major bummer since they were awesome!!

I bought this for a rough camping/canoeing/hiking trip coming up and was excited to see them in plus sizes. Knowing how women's clothing can vary in sizes I bought I size larger than ALL of my pants. They are very tight on my waist and thighs (I have muscular thighs and usually swim in regular cut pants). The length was spot on (short for me). For the price I paid I am very disappointed, but the tight pants will have to work because I leave in two days. I expected better from Columbia.

I was excited to find that these pants fit well and were actually flattering. I really liked the weight and feel of the fabric. Unfortunately, and it may just be me, I found that the location of the zipper hit my leg at a point that felt awkward. As a result, I returned then and ordered the same pants without the convertible feature.

Ordered two pairs, a size up and two sizes upone size up was still tight on the waist and the zippers cut into my thighs, two sizes up the waist fit but the legs were too long and the zippers still cut into my thighs when lifting my legs, which is a problem when hiking. Will be returning both pairs.

The pants are so long they drag in the ground. Will have a friend shorten them, otherwise unwearable.

Purchased these in 2x, with the hopes of using them as the bottom half of a BSA scout uniform on camping trips, so my clothes match the rest of our troop. The legs are narrow enough above the zipper (where you can remove legs) that it looks super-weird, and is binding when muscles flex in larger legs. Fits otherwise, and I live in Columbia clothes when I'm out on the trail.

I should have payed attention to other people comments about the legs being tight around the zipper area. I don't have large legs in general but they were much too tight when you sit down in that area. Otherwise fabric seemed very nice and the rest of the fit was fine.

Was super excited to add these to my closet but won't likely ever wear them. Overall, the material is awesome but the fit isn't super flattering. I'm proportional but pretty straight from bust to hip with and extra long torso. These fit like a "curvy" cut and require an hour glass figure. Also, I surely couldn't squat in them as the zippers around the thighs are far too small... My thighs aren't even that thick and I nearly ripped them.

These pants would be better if the area where the zipper is located was larger. They fit well when you are standing but when you sit they are too tight.

The seat of the pants fit great, the zipper section strangles your thighs if you're plus sized. These for me will have to go into the closet and just hang around until I lose more weight.

If you need/use pockets, DON'T buy these pants. They are super comfy and fit me well. However, the zipped phone pocket is only big enough for a old-style small iphone. And the regular slant pockets are too shallow and things fall out.

I bought these to take backpacking, I sized up since reading they ran small. They were still too small. The waist band was very tight. Plenty of room in the legs and the rear. I'm afraid to size up more, I think the rest of the pant would be too big. The material is lightweight and comfy other than the waist band. I returned them.

I really wanted to love these pants. I had to order them 2 sizes up from my usual pants size, but find I'm usually ordering up one size in Columbia pants anyway, so NBD. They have snaps, so definitely didn't want them tight (I'm 5'6, 235 lb, total apple shape -- snaps aren't my friend). I can live with all of this, because they are a great lightweight fabric, a good rise and length, and the color is versatile (I ordered Gravel, which is a greenish grey). My big issue is with the leg zippers, the ones on the mid-thigh where they turn into shorts -- umm, I think they used the same zippers in the size 2 that they did in my size 20! When I step up on something tall (so, like, a rock ledge hiking, or, say, a kitchen stepstool), I feel like I'm going to burst the zippers at the seams. Forget squatting to pick up something you've dropped or to tie a shoe. Even the car ride was very uncomfortable -- it squeezes so tight around your mid thigh that it feels like when you have a brand new hair elastic around your wrist before it stretches out to that perfect wrist length, know what I mean? Ouch! It's such a bummer, because otherwise these would be pretty great pants, and it's not like there are a ton of outdoor pants for heavy women like myself who like hiking and just being comfortable in warm weather. I kept them, because options are limited (and they were on sale -- full price I would have sadly returned them), but the second time I wore them, I unzipped the legs and wore them as shorts until I arrived at the trail. Bummer.

Could have been a great pair of pants. Very comfortable stretch fabric...not like the parachute fabric of past hiking pants. They even ran large through the waist/hip. The major flaw is the zippers just above the knee...it is too high on the leg so that when you sit down, the zipper acts like a tight band around your thigh as it does not stretch. They should have cut the leg wider or moved the zipper down so these would convert into clam digger or capris length. Also, the side pockets would be much better if they were not slash pockets as items such as your phone slip easily out of the mesh fabric that makes up the inner pocket.
I'd also recommend:
None as it seems other manufacturers of hiking/outdoor clothing seem to ignore the plus sized woman.

Sadly, I couldn't make these work because of the same zipper issue others are having. It really does make for an uncomfortable situation if the zippers cut into your legs. Had to return and find a different brand of hiking pant.

I searched specifically for pants by Columbia in a lightweight somewhat stretchy material for use in the summer, outdoors, hiking, camping and such. Impulsively, I purchased them online, right away. Then I read the reviews. Agh! I have big thighs. Of course I do, I'm buying womens plus size pants. As soon as they arrived, I ran to try them on. Checked myself in the mirror. They fit like a glove. Perfect. Waist, hips, length. And they were so comfortable. Then I sat down. Wow! The zippers cut right across my mid to lower thigh. There is no give. It's not a total loss, I can still wear them. They will be okay for hiking, providing I don't have to drive a distance to get to the trail and for activities that don't involve any sitting. Bottom line, the zipper is tighter than it should be. They will not be comfortable. I will not purchase another pair.

I want to love these pants so badly but it's not to be. The pants themselves fit great in the waist and butt area (maybe a little loose in the butt) although I did have to order up a size since they seemed to run a little small (which tends to be the case with any of the outdoor clothing brands). They look really nice too. The material is lightweight, stretchy, and very comfortable. However, the zippers on the legs are just too tight. They feel fine when just standing but as soon as I sat down or lifted my knee up (like climbing up a high stair), the zippers dug into my thighs. If they added even just an inch or two more of the zipper they would be perfect. I bought these pants for hiking/backpacking and I can't have the zipper digging in ever time I step up onto a rock or into a lean-to. So these have been returned. I ended up buying a pair of the non-convertible Columbia Plus Size Saturday Trail II Pant and those are now my go-to hiking pants when it's not too hot out since you can at least comfortably convert them to capris

I ordered a few sizes up based on the reviews and they were HUGE! I had to return them and reorder. I'm waiting for my next pair to arrive and hoping they fit better. I do like the quality, though. I am anxious to see if the next pair fits.

The pants are well made. The material is not what I expected, as the men's version is made of a lighter ripstop fabric. These are slightly thicker. As is typical with women's pants, the pockets are too small and not well designed for any real usefulness. Aside from these drawbacks, the fit is good and they are flexible, lightweight pants. I usually buy regular length pants, since petite length is usually a bit short for me. These "short" length pants are closer to regular length. If you are almost petite, consider the short length instead of regular.

There is an area where the pants become shorts, above the knee into the thigh. This area has zero stretch because of the zipper and when you sit it gets really tight, these would be better with no zipper area.

I purchased 3 pairs of the pant for an upcoming trip to South East Asia. I love the idea of having 2 bottoms in one. That being said they are extremely small! I normally wear a size 14(american) in jeans (Calvin Cline, Tommy and Levies) so after reading the reviews i ordered a size 18W. Unfortunately the pants are still a little snug!! Especially where the pants zip off. Like i said I like the pants and at this point the will have to do but I would order a size 20 next time. I hope this helps. :)
