Something has happened to Dansko. I have worn them my whole life and over the last couple of years the sizes have gotten smaller and the toe box has gotten very odd. This shoe was painful just to put on. Breaks my heart. I am a 12 and the 12.5 was so short in the toe that it hurt badly without even walking in them.

Finally! After looking hard for a shoe that's pretty, fits well, and accommodates my orthotic without slipping off my heel or looking like Frankenstein designed it, I ordered this shoe. I love it! I took the removable insole out and replaced it with my orthotic, tried it on, and it fit perfectly. I wore it today, received two unsolicited compliments, and will be ordering a pair in every color. My feet are a standard US size 8 and are on the low-volume side with a high arch, but otherwise standard, and this shoe, in a size 38, was just right.

Dear Dansko and oh so sad - the 41s are too small and the 42s are too big. I used to fit all your 41s, but alas I don't. The jury is still out on whether I deal with the somewhat loose 42s, which are not quite as comfy as I thought they would be; an odd pressure point near the instep.

I love these shoes, so much so that when prompted to review the shoes by Zappos, I decided to submit my first review of any online purchase, ever. I have been a Dansko customer since the early 1990's, and have had countless styles of Danskos. My athletic trainer recently recommended that I get out of heels, even the relatively low heels on the Dansko clog-type shoes. He referred me to a bunch of "bare foot" type shoe websites. After a quick review of these sites, it was clear my trainer had no clue about the cuteness factor for women's professional shoes. So I got onto Dansko's website, expecting to be disappointed, and found the Opal. I then hopped onto Zappos and ordered the shoe in black. The first pair I received was faulty - there was this obnoxious popping noise coming from the right heel every time I took a step, so I exchanged them for the same shoes - no more unwanted noises. In short, these have been my hands-down favorite pair of Danskos to date. It sounds crazy, but I feel "springier" and more energetic - I think folks underestimate how much energy it takes to constantly grip one's toes to keep shoes in place when walking. These shoes eliminate that, and fit great. It did take a week of Band-Aids on one heel to break them in (I wear them without socks), but since then they have been fantastic. I am a size 41, slightly narrow, and the 41 that I have found to be true to size. I would highly recommend these shoes.

I love these shoes! I have been having many problems with my feet, and am having a great deal of trouble finding shoes that work and feel good. I have worn these now for several weeks, and am very happy with them. Due to toe trouble, my skinny feet need wide, which usually results in a heel that is sloppy. The strap on this shoe prevents that problem, and holds my ankle securely. I have had no problems at all with the strap digging in, as other reviewers have said. Surprisingly, I can wear them with black dress pants, skirts, and black Dockers, and they work well with all of them. They do not look cheap at all, but well made. While it is more than I have ever paid for a pair of shoes, after ordering Clarks for years, I am back today to order another pair in brown.

I'm late to the ball (with my review), but failure to praise these shoes and Zappos is inexcusable, so: Everything you print (above) about these Chocolate Cherry Patent Mary Janes is absolute truth. Comfort in spades, support as promised. The rich red-black complements more than you might guess. The style is, well, a Mary Jane, so there's little more to say. Given the heavy look of Danskos, these feel surprisingly lightweight. If you need a delicate shoe with a high heel, don't look here, but these shoes surprise, especially with pants, with a dressy look. I never met a Dansko I didn't love, so I'm biased. Yet my closet holds Clarks, Soffts, even a saddle oxford. For all-day comfort, though (Clarks and) Danskos win the day.

I have these shoes in black patent and they are very stylish. They work with pants or skirts (depending on the length and style of the skirt). They are comfortable but I would not choose these shoes if I needed to stand all day or walk far as they are not comfortable enough for that. I thought they were true to size. The soles are rubber and the insoles are removable. They have less arch support than Dansko clogs.

Okay! I ordered these shoes because I had to have something black, closed toe, and workable for singing in a chorus. That means I have to wear them while I drive the car, climb and descend stairs (including some on stage), walk a fair amount, and stand a lot -- and I'm on the shady side of sixty-five. I chose these, having had good experiences with many (but not all!) Danskos. They will do fine. On me these shoes are a bit wide at mid-foot and I have to place the Velcro strap just about as far over as it will go. I don't know what that will mean for the future, if the shoes stretch out, but for now they are very comfy and a good fit. Ideally, for me they would be a little narrower from the midfoot back (width in the toe area is perfect). They look a little clunky but to my eye, slightly better than the pictures, and good enough for choral. (Naturally I wish I could wear killer heels, but I'm the one that would get killed.) I think I made a good choice! I usually wear size 7; these are a 37.

I bought these because I'm going to have surgery on my right ankle and I needed a sturdy, comfortable shoe for my left foot since I'll be on crutches for 6 weeks. These were so cute and I wanted to love them. They are my first pair of Dansko shoes so I didn't know what to expect, size-wise. They felt short on my (healthy) left foot. The sole also felt kind of hard, but I might have felt differently if my toe wasn't also cramped. I may try to order them in the next size up because I like the style and they made my big size 11 feet not look quite so huge. As always, the service from Zappos was beyond compare and I will continue to do all my shoe shopping here.

These are very comfortable for walking. I walk to work and home 2 miles each day. Like all dansko shoes, they are a little chunky in the sole, so don't look good with every outfit. The leather and finish is holding up very well even though I got caught in the rain in them once or twice. I normally wear an average women's size 10. I ordered a 41, and they fit great.

I wear Dansko clogs size 39 and ordered these in the same size. They are too small. They also are too narrow for me. Unfortunately, they are going back. Too bad as they are very cute.

These run big. I fall between 7½ and 7 and am pretty consistently a 37 and 38 European size. I ordered these in a 37 because of other reviews saying they ran big but I will be sending them back for a 36. 36? Never have I been a 36. Maybe it is best to order two of these in different sizes when in doubt. Aside from this, they are super comfortable and my severely painful feet feel supported with great arch support and a cushy but firm footbed. They were so cute, I will try to size down and edit my review when I get them.

I recommend this shoe as it is comfortable and has a professional appearance. I am a corporate officer, and I purchased this shoe to wear at a conference. I walked 7 miles one day and my feet did not hurt. The shoe looks professional when worn with pants.

These might be the best shoes I have ever purchased. I don't care for the look of clogs in general so I have never ordered Danskos before now. These are really comfortable shoes. I have a hard time finding shoes that don't bother me: can't wear heels, can't wear ballet flats, can't wear flip flops. My choices are limited and I'm happy to be able to add a third brand to my very short list of shoes that don't cause pain.

I bought these Danskos as they have a low heels and I love the brand. These were comfortable right out of the box and I have been wearing them for 8-10 hours a day at work with no problems. This brand lasts years and are well worth the price!

I love these Dansko shoes! Right now they are my go-to shoes for almost every occasion - business, travel, walking. On a recent European trip, I noticed someone in my group who was wearing them for daily touring - she loved them, I ordered them - and now I love Opal too. Thank you, Zappos for getting them to me so quickly. These shoes are so comfortable, attractive, and easy to put on/take off. May order another before these wear out!

Absolutely love this shoe. Super comfortable and very cute. Perfect for women who need a low-heeled shoe that offers a finished look. I normally wear a size 10 and ordered the 10.5 - 11 based on other reviews which said they ran small. Wish they were offered in a dark brown color, too.

These shoes were comfort right out of the box. The velcro strap works great for me with having a nerve issue on my right foot. The style is great from jeans to dress slacks. I have since ordered a second pair of Dansko!

I have been longing for some basic black Mary Janes to wear with everything, and these fit the bill. The leather is soft and supple, the support of the shoe is great, and they look great with anything: skinny jeans, skirts, trousers. Love them.

I absolutely love these shoes. They are so cute! They are perfect with pantsuits and tailored skirts and for those who like a professional look but without a high heel. But, order a size up. I found that out by reading the reviews. I usually wear a 10 and ordered the 10½-11 and they fit perfectly.

Awesome pair of shoes. yes, they do run very small. For years I could not understand the craze about danskos because they were always too tight, and I was not believing that I could be a size 12?! But I tried them and they fit like a charm with my orthotics as well. Very well crafted.

I get tons of compliments on these shoes; you can dress them up or down and they add polish to any outfit. I use them with custom orthotics so they are a dream for me in terms of comfort and support.

The Dansko Opal worked out great! I had to go to a funeral and needed dress shoes quickly- something I could stand on my feet all day and still be comfortable. These fit the bill. The first time I wore them, I had them on for more than 12 hours of standing. No blisters, no rubs. I did notice a little tightness in the toe area to begin, but it lasted like less than an hour. I am in between sizes 40-41 so I ordered the 41 and have some movement in the heel, which I actually prefer to being too tight. Don't regret the decision to purchase these and hope to have them for many years to come.

Great shoe! I have a slender foot - for a person with a wide foot, these might not fit as well. I needed something dressy that wasn't tight on my toes (pain issues) and that my insoles could fit in - my insoles are a little snug, but they work! For most people, the supportive insole of these shoes should be great for their feet, but with my plantar fasciitis, being able to put in my own insole was what I needed. I ordered a half size up to decrease toe pain - the strap keeps the shoe snug even though I'm wearing it a little big. Thanks Dansko!

Cute yet dressy shoe, very versatile! Wore it a few times to the office to ease the fit a bit, and then it was very comfortable for a lot of city walking at a multi-day conference.
