These boots are amazing. I am 5'3" with 15.5" calves (maybe a teensy bit bigger) and these are the perfect Hunter boots for me and trust me, I have gone through a lot. The original Original tall boots (the ones made in Scotland) had a tall shaft that pinched my knee when I walked upstairs. The Originals now (made in China) didn't fit my calves! I figured that I'd need the Huntress, but as a previous reviewer wrote, they ended up making my legs look short and stumpy. Not a good look. So with the help of Zappos' customer service agents, I ordered these boots and I cannot begin to tell you how happy I am with them. For shorter gals with thicker calves looking to get as close to the original style as possible, these boots are for you!

I wanted to take the time to write a review specifically for my fellow wide-calf sufferers. These boots are amazing. I live in Western Oregon where it rains a lot, but I was having the hardest time finding rain boots that would fit me. I have 17 inch calves, & while I drooled over Hunter boots online, I never really considered them an option because I assumed they would never fit me - especially when their special 'Huntress' boots for wide calves are still a half inch or more too small. I found somewhere that sold Hunter boots & went in to try on the short boots, because I thought those were my best bet [which, for my wide calf ladies, fit great too, by the way], but when I was telling the sales-girl about my calf issues she was like 'we have some of the adjustable ones! I'll go get them for you!' They ended up fitting perfectly [I was even able to tighten the strap!] & I bought them immediately. I usually wear a size 7.5 in normal shoes & a size 8 in boots - but I got a size 7 in these & they fit great. I love these & am already eyeing the green ones [I bought the black]. My only minor complaint would be the lack of fun colors & some glossy options - but as a woman with wide-calves, I know you just gotta take what you can get. I hope this review helps those with especially wide calves. I know when I was originally doing my research there weren't many reviews mentioning calf sizes over 15.5-16 inches so I was skeptical about fit.

Oh my goodness, these boots actually fit! I actually said, as I opened the box, "I bet these won't fit," followed a few seconds later by, "Holy! They actually fit!" LOL. I am 5'7"ish, with 16-17" calves. I'm still trying to lose 30 lbs of baby weight, so I'm definitely not at my trimmest. But I was able to pop these right on my legs, and there's actually extra room for leggings/skinny jeans! I'm still in shock! I never have tall boots just glide right on, not even rain boots. And I even had to cinch them a bit, although the strap is nice and long for future tightening. So yes, I'm thrilled. They DO run large, I'd say a half to a whole size. I was disappointed at first that the 9s were so roomy, even with thicker athletic socks. I take an 8.5-9 in boots, but mostly 9s since my baby was born. But I popped in my trusty inserts, and they snugged the fit quite nicely for me. There's still a little wiggle room, but that'll be nice come winter when I want to wear thicker socks. Better than being too tight. I like the expandable part in the back too. I got the Black/Enamel color, and it reminds me a little of a bustle on a dress or something. Very girly and chic. I can't wait to run around in these and stomp in puddles. There are flooding rains here now, so I've got my chance! I think I might invest in a pair of welly socks so I can wear them with skirts/dresses/shorts in hotter weather, and not feel like I'm sticking to the boots. My only disappointment with these boots is that they don't come in the pretty colors like the other Hunter varieties do. I'd love to get a bright, colorful pair for spring right now. Are you listening, Hunter? ;-)

I love these boots so much! I might love them even more than my favorite Uggs. I saw these (on my feet, of course) side-by-side with the Hunter Original Gloss in black on someone else and I can see why they say the Original Back Adjustable gives a more refined leg appearance. They are easy to cinch so they are more snug against your calves (you can leave them loose, of course, and you don't really have to cinch them every time but I like the option). The boots are far more comfortable than you might expect, and a true wardrobe classic whether you're in the rainy Pacific Northwest or staying stylish on a rainy day in New England. Note: Wear with thick, comfy socks for maximum comfort. Zappos' service was excellent as usual!

Awesome investment. Tried the Huntress and it was good in calf but sloppy around the ankle. These adjustable Hunters are the answer if you have a calf bigger than 14.5". The welly socks cover the buckle if you are questioning the back buckle location. I am 5'2" and have had no problems with the boots cutting me off behind the knee. I wear a 6 1/2 but went up to the 7 even though everyone says go down the 6 fit too perfect no extra toe room the 7 was much more comfortable for me with the welly socks inside.

More than a year ago, I had ordered the original Hunters, but they barely fit over my calves, much less over pants, so... I returned them + got the Huntress version (which are great), but I always longed for the taller, more fitted wellies. Then, I recently saw these + figured they might be the perfect in between pair + they are! I absolutely love them - they have room to expand if needed + they still give some actual definition to my legs, unlike the Huntress wellies! So happy with this purchase!

I love these boots! The adjustable part of them is really nice, so that depending on what pants you are wearing you can make them fit better. I think they are stylish for sure. They were definitely more comfortable than I expected! These are a must have. However, they definitely run large! I returned my first pair to get the next size down and they were perfect.

First of all I have to confess. I did not purchase this boot at Zappos only because they were completely sold out at the time. However, being a loyal Zappos Customer I felt compelled to write a review on these boots. I have large wide feet and huge calves. When I say big I mean gynormous-17.5 + calf circumstance. As many other reviewers have said I could not believe that these fit. I even have room for a thin skinny leg jean. I looked high and low for a boot that worked. I even ordered one from Europe as a last resort and it was floppy, cheap material, and made my feet (size 10) look huge. Having a wide foot and high arch made things even more challenging. But this one works. It is a good width if you have a wider foot. I do not see any bunching or ankle sag. As an added plus, this boot is actually slimming in the foot area which is important when you have a large and wide foot print-especially for women who want to look feminine. The only con and it is minor is that if you have this on the widest calf width I wouldn't suggest you purchase the Hunter Liners. They probably only work on this boot if your calf is less than 16 inches. With the back adjustment all the way opened the cuff of the sock doesn't really stretch far enough. A very small price to pay for finding such a gem of a boot! I will be buying my next pair at Zappos if they have them in stock.

I have owned a pair of the Hunter Originals for a few years now, and I do love them -- but the calves were so tight. I was basically limited to wearing them with tights or leggings...which is fine but a little limiting. I had been toying with the idea of ordering a pair of the Hunter Original Shorts for times when I was wearing jeans/sweatpants/dress pants - but then I found these guys. I ordered them in the olive and yellow and love them. They bunch just a little bit in the ankles when I walk but most rainboots do. They fit perfectly over my athletic calves, so I can now wear them with jeans!

These boots are amazing! I had just bought my first pair of Hunters (the originals), and to my disappointment the calves on them were way too small. I don't have large calves by any means and I could only get them on with bare legs. So I reluctantly got a pair of the Huntress but was disappointed that they were shorter than the originals. These are the best rain boot I've ever worn! So comfortable...like walking in butter...and the fit is prefect with room to spare in the calf area so I can tighten them up for a closer fit. I found these to be true to size. I'm a true size 9 USA (40 Italian) and got these in a 9. Perfect with a regular thickness sock or a pair of the hunter welly socks (which I also picked up in the grizzly fur).

I love these boots. It's super wet where I live and they are absolutely waterproof. I returned the original hunters because they were too small around my calf. I'm tall with small feet, size 7, and thicker calfs (15 inches). The Huntresses would have been way too big, and I think they are not as stylish. These are tall, and have a good shape. They aren't too big around the ankle. And I love the adjustable part in the back. I think it looks cute and you can make the boots smaller or looser. If you want to wear them with thick socks by a size up.

I love these boots! I got them as a Christmas gift and they are absolutely wonderful. I typically wear an 8.5 and got the 8, they fit very well but did take a while to break in. They hold up really well in both rain and snow and wipe off very easily.

LOVE this style/color/boot. I am 5'2" and have bigger calves. I had to return the Huntress which claims its for wide calves but I felt it was still too small since there was no way to adjust. I am in love with the quality of this shoe not to mention and color, everyone and their sister have the classic colors. I wanted to different and this option was perfect. The navy blue actually looks closer to black and was mistaken for black by a friend but nope, navy blue. The little addition of pink, genius. Hope this helps!

I just got these today and had to come on here and review them! I love these boots so much! First of all, I got the purple boots and the color is dark and understated but different from just regular black- just what I was looking for. I'm usually a size 5.5, but everyone said these run big so I sized down to a 5. The 5 felt perfect, with just a tiny bit of wiggle room that was nice. I've been wanting a pair of Hunter boots forever but had been hesitant in the past because of my calf size. I have larger than normal calves and have always had trouble finding knee high boots that fit me. For the record I am about a 16" circumference. These fit me perfectly. I tried them on first with just socks and no jeans, and they fit well. Then with jeans they were a little tight but definitely doable. Then I tried the Welly socks plus Jeans and it was really tight but still ok (though there were some bulging I didn't like on the sides). walked around in the snow with them and felt no leakage, though I haven't stepped in an ankle deep puddle yet. They're really comfortable to walk in and look great. I'm very petite, 4'10" and the boots are not too high on me. In fact they're just about the perfect height, coming right below the knees. Overall, great boots, great investment, can't wait to wear them for years to come!

I am so beyond happy with these boots. After being disappointed that the original did not fit me because the calf was so narrow, I next tried the Huntress. These, while they fit my calf, made my legs look short and stumpy because they had a shorter shaft and the ankle area was huge and made me look like I had cankles. There also weren't boot liners that fit the Huntress properly. As a last resort I tried these adjustable back ones and am thrilled. They great, with or without a sock. There's plenty of room and I can make them tighter with the strap. I was afraid I wouldn't like the non-glossy finish but I actually like this finish (I have black) the best. If you're afraid of Hunter boots not fitting your calves, buy these! They are easily 17 inches or even bigger.

I thought Hunter boots were a dream until I saw these. I have muscular calves (17.5"). Well these actually fit! I ordered a 9 and a 10 in the green. I normally wear a 9.5 or 10. I ended up keeping the 10 even tho reviews suggested to size down. I live in Michigan and we have snowy winters and rainy falls and springs. My feet have stayed dry! Very happy with my purchase.

Because of my muscular calves I couldn't fit in the originals. I ordered these and the Huntress to compare. I preferred these because they made my leg look slimmer while still giving me enough room. I also like that I can cinch them in with legging and let them out with jeans. Classic and comfy--worth the splurge!

I cannot believe they fit! I have wide calves about 17-17½" at the widest (and wide feet for that matter). Finding great boots is always a chore. I have loved Hunter boots forever but could never squeeze my calves into the narrow boots. Not anymore! I usually wear a 10 but found them a little snug in the foot. I exchanged them for an 11 and they are great. My calves fit no problem. I thought the buckle in the back might detract from the look but it definitely does not.

These are sporty boots! These have to be the sportiest investment that I have made for some rubber boots! I love these boots I get so many compliments when I wear these. As much as I hate when it rains, I cannot wait for it to rain just so I can wear these! I wish that I could get all of the colors! These were a great buy! They do run a larger than I anticipated, but other than that, I have no issues!

I hate getting the bottom of my jeans wet when the puddles are deep and the rain splashes up on your pants. These look great with skinny jeans tucked inside and very similar look to horseback riding boots! If you have a narrow foot (or need better arch support), you'll probably need an insert to make them fit more snugly.
I'd also recommend:

I don't want to be redundant but, they fit! I have a VERY muscular calf and finding something comfortable and stylish is a task. I tried the originals and no good. I then tried the huntress which turned me off to the entire hunter experience with the large ankle and stumpy look it gave me. Then like Cinderella I tried these babies and they were a perfect fit! Sleek, tall enough, and adjustable to my liking. These are my new go to boot in at least three colors. To my big-calves ladies...we finally got some love ! Oh, they are cut at least one size larger than normal shoes...so go down a size. Enjoy.

Tall boots have always been difficult for me and my 17 inch calves. I want something fashionable and good quality something hard to find with wide calves. I purchased two other rain boot brands that claimed they would fit wide calves, they were either too tight or bunched at the ankle and looked odd. So, I was skeptical about whether these Hunter boots would really fit. But, I am happy to say, they fit nicely with room to spare and there is NO bunching at the ankle. I am so pleased with this purchase!

These boots were a great solution for me. I'm currently carrying around post baby weight and my calf is bigger than usual. I can fit the Original Hunter but only with leggings. The Huntress is too large and sloppy. The Adjustable Hunter is just perfect if you are "in between." Even if you usually buy the Original, you might want to consider these instead if you want to cram thicker jeans or Wellys into them. It's convenient to be able to adjust the size.

Love these rain boots! The regular Hunters were way too tight for me; I could put them on but definitely couldn't fit jeans or even tights into them. So I settled for the Huntress, which aren't the cutest because of the wide ankles. Since I live in San Diego, I hadn't put them to use yet and thank goodness I hadn't because I randomly decided to check Zappos and lo and behold these adjustable Hunters came out! I ordered them right away and hoped for the best! And they certainly were the best decision ever. They are super cute and the adjustable straps make them look trendy and sort of not even like rain boots. I returned the Huntress and kept these and couldn't be happier! So for all the big-calved girls out there, there is hope for stylish rain boots! (I'm 5'6, slim/athletic build, 15.5' calves.)

I love these! I have pretty wide calves from running and riding horses and the regular Hunter boots are too tight on my legs. These fit perfectly, with enough room to not exaggerate the size of my legs! I wish these came in all the colors that the regular Hunters came in though.
