I really wanted to like this coat! It is very lightweight and fit well (though it runs smalls - I had ordered a larger size because I read previous reviews). I had my doubts on how warm it would be, because it is so thin. So I took a short walk around my neighborhood in 20 degree weather...I was freezing, so I will be returning it. I think this coat is probably best for folks who live in mid-Atlantic states where it doesn't get as cold, but it's not ideal for upper Midwest states and harsh, cold winters.

Very strange sizing. I have the Columbia Hellfire jacket and it fits me perfectly. This jacket the sleeves were at least 3" longer. I am 5'6", 150 lbs and Large fits everywhere but the sleeves. I was hoping this lighter weight jacket would be better than the Hellfire because it had the hood. Shipping back.

I bought this coat mostly for the price. The title explains enough that it is "light" weight, however it's a lot more thin than I thought. I also thought the color Abyss was a dark grey color, but to my surprise, it's actually navy blue. I never wore it to try it out for warmth, I simply returned it because of the color and ended up getting the Apres Arson Long Down coat (in the dark grey color I wanted).

My coat has stretched and now doesn't look good on. I wear it in the car a lot and I guess it stretches when you wear it sitting down. I have never experienced this with my other winter coats, including my previous Columbia coat so I am very disappointed. Also, some threads from stitching on the exterior of the coat are coming loose.

I like this coat and bought it in purple. It's warm up to temperatures that are or feel like (due to wind) 20 degrees. You would need two layers. I wore it on top of a business suit and could feel the chill. Unless you're wearing thermals or a heavy sweater/fleece this is good down to 32 degrees. For some reason, there is no cord to tighten the hood. You will need a hat or ear covering. There's no legitimate reason for this other than cutting corners. My 700 fill NF felt much warmer.
I'd also recommend:

The jacket is ok for a person who is not super cold all the time. I am always cold. I live in Atlanta and when we hit those 30s or below I feel very uncomfortable. So, I tried this jacket on and I still felt cold. Maybe I had super high expectations.... other than that it was good. Nice fit, light. The hood doesn't stay put.. it kind of falls back so you'll need ear cuffs...
I am 5'2 and ordered an M. It fit fine.

I was super excited to receive this coat, when it came in the mail and i saw the thin (as thin as a college text book) box it came in I knew right away that it was not going to be what i wanted. I am from Chicago and take the train everyday and sometimes have to stand outside for long periods of time so I need a really warm coat. This one is way too thin and i know its not going to keep me warm when its really cold outside. Its good if you live somewhere where the temperature doesn't drop past 30 or so. I wanted to give it a try to see if the omni heat really works but at the price i paid and the way the weather will be it is not worth the risk. :(

I purchased this coat for fall, wasn't going to wear it in winter/ but even for fall it's cold for me. it's extremely thin, and I feel cold in it. Besides my size is x small, but I can wear this only on a light shirt, can't wear something warmer underneath. But size small is too big for me, so I will have to return this coat.

This jacket was warm, despite being thin! But the quality was bad. Some of the insulation started coming out within 2 days of light use. And the hood just didn't work for me. It was too lose, and kept falling off.
Overall, I'm disappointed with the quality, and I'm looking for a different jacket (better built) with the omni-heat technology.

It's definitely comfortable and well-constructed, but it can't stand up to Chicago winters without a second layer of outerwear.

I returned this jacket after trying it on. It is very thin, I did not test outside because I wasn't happy with the fit. The pockets sit too low and it makes it uncomfortable. Also did not like the zipper on the jacket, it bunches up in the stomach area making me look like a have a big stomach while I do not. Overall, its a nice jacket, but not for me.

The hood on this jacket simply won't stay up. There's no hope if it's windy. Even if I walked briskly or turned my head too much or too quickly, off it slid. I always had to keep one hand on the hood to keep it on. There's no drawstring to adjust it. If it were deeper so it hung down further, the weight of it might keep it up. I felt like my forehead always stuck out, even when it was up. It just doesn't work.
If you don't care about having a hood, this is a great jacket. Fit was great, weight was great, nice that it's packable, and I really think the Omni-Heat thing did its job. I was always warm. But I wanted a jacket like this precisely for the hood, and that's the jacket's worst feature, so back it went. I really, really tried to make it work!

I bought this coat because I have the shorter, jacket version and love it, but the longer coat is both too big and too small in the wrong places. The arms, shoulders and chest are too big. The sleeves are way too long. And of course, it's snug through the hips. What is it with coat designers that they think women have no hips? Design for curves, people! Women are not built like men!
The coat is otherwise warm. So it serves that purpose.

I love this coat but I wear a large I ordered a large and I had to give it to my step Mom because I could not fit it, she wears a small and this coat fit her perfect. She loves it and tells me it is very warm.

Not true to size. Cheaply made. It was a gift for my daughter who is very thin. I ordered a medium because she is always cold and is always layering up. Had a hard time zipping it with only one sweater under the coat. She usually wears 2. Returned it and chose not to reorder.

I followed the size chart and ordered what it suggested, the coat fits great if I want only a thin T-shirt under it BUT it's a winter coat I need to be able to wear layers!! I'm very disappointed!

I have bought this coat in the past and it was good quality. This one that I just received is thin and not warm at all. Waste of money, will be returning.

Ordered size XS. I'm 5'1, 110lbs
So bummed! This is the EXACT weight/thickness I've been looking for - I find even if a jacket is thin, but still covers some of my leg, I will stay fairly warm. Unfortunately, this jacket is NOT made for petite ladies. It was comically long! I literally laughed when I put it on bc my hands didn't even reach the pockets! I would have to walk bent over to have my hands fully in. -the curves hit at the wrong spots as well-- making it tight across my butt bc that portion should have been up at my waist. --they definitely need to adjust the cut on the smaller sizes. I think you would have to be 6ft tall for the XS to fit correctly.

I didn't like the hour glass shape of this coat-it was mentioned in reviews but I ignored it. I usually wear a size Large but ordered an XL because Columbia runs small on me. I returned it. If that isn't a problem then the coat seems well made and looks and feels like it will be warm. I love that it is so light weight.

I purchased the same jacket a few years ago and absolutely loved and still love it. Lightweight and warm and can be dressed up or down. Sleeves on one I am wearing beginning to fray a bit and since I loved the jacket ordered another one about a year later...stitching and fit totally different so I returned it. Noticed the reviews were positive this year and the price was great so I tried again. Stitching was better but the shoulders were different on each side and on one side extra tight with only light shirt underneath. The fit from the waist down was wider and would mean wind would billow under jacket. Sadly returned this one too. Silverlining...Zappos is wonderful about returning and they have the nicer customer service. Hats off to you!

I ordered an XL thinking I was sizing up. It's so small I couldn't even close it enough to zipper the jacket. Really confused by the "true to size" reviews. This is the second item I've had this issue and with the charge for returns, I can't take my chances anymore. Lost money with nothing to show for it. Really disappointing.

I always wear a Large in my Columbia jackets. I checked the size chart and ordered a Large in this style. When the jacket came, it was too small. I ended up passing on to my mom, who normally wears a medium. This fit her perfectly in the Large. I recommend ordering up a size.

I was very sad that the jacket runs so small in the hips and chest. This is not the case with the other Columbia's that I have. I cannot wear the jacket. I was very disappointed as it would have been perfect
