I love Frye boots in general and these are no exception. I'm 4'10" and weigh 110 lbs. My calves are 13.5" These boots were slightly roomy at the shaft. I could have lived with that -- it was not an uncomfortable amount of room -- however, there was a gap at the top between my leg and the edge of the boot. I sort of expected that might be the case (it often is with pull on boots) but loved the color so much I wanted to give it a try. I am sending them back because it's not worth the cost for less than perfect fit in my opinion. If you are petite with slim calves, I'd recommend the Melissa button. Hard to get on and off until you break them in, but a very snug fit.

I don't think my calves are huge, but when I first got these I could barely get my foot in them. So tight! I had to wear them with tights to break them in because jeans were murder, but now that they've softened up, I love them. Just definitely not for anyone with even the teensiest bit above-averagely sized calves.

I had to make several orders and returns to find the perfect color and size of this boots, because the pic of the color was not very accurate. Eventually I chose the redwood, which appears less red in reality and more brown, which is what I wanted. I usually wear size 5 for flats and heels, so I first ordered size 5.5 thinking I need some room for winter socks. my left foot can barely got in the boots when I wear skinny jeans. I had to return and ordered size 6. Finally they fit great. I love these boots. The leather just feels very high quality. Only one minor problem. for some reason, I feel the sole of this boot is not flat. The heel part of the sole is slightly higher than the front part. When I walk, my feet get a little sore because of this. I hope it's because it's new and the sole will eventually soften and this problem will disappear.

I've been looking for a black boot, so tried the Lindsay Plate size 6. They really fit well in the foot and were very comfortable out of the box, but the black makes it hard to see the beautiful detail in this boot. Also, the leather is quite thick and stiff, which I guess goes with the riding style. The shaft is 15 inches around. I'm sending them back mainly because of the color and because I'm undecided about the thicker, stiffer leather. (Love the soft Paige Studs!)

I love the boots. They are not as dark and shiny as they are pictured, but still beautiful. They are comfortable right out of the box, but very hard to put on the first few times.

I ordered both size 7½ and 8. (I am a size 8 shoe). The size 8 fits perfectly. The problem I had was that the leather appeared different with each. The 7½ was really weathered/antiqued look and the size 8 was much less. Almost as though they were worn before or something. I have three other pairs of Fryes and they will always be my go to brand. I love the quality and fit. I will be sending these back and exchanging them for the other smooth black leather.

Orderd these in the Burnt Red color. They are so beautiful and obviously of high quality. The smell was so good. They are beautiful on - my pants tucked into them just fine without being too big. My calves are athletic mountain biker calves though! The thing is this - my heel lifts quite a bit in them. I try to justify it as no big deal, but I know blisters will find homes on my feet if I wear them for long. For this price point, I really want a beautiful pair of well-made boots that fit perfectly. The search continues.

Really like the appearance of these boots, but the arch support did not align with the arch of my foot, leading to an annoying sort of discomfort. I wish they wouldn't do that. Riding boots aren't meant to have arch support. Let us choose our own insoles if that's what we want.

I love these boots. My husband got the dark brown burnished color for my birthday, and they are exactly what I was looking for in a riding boot...except they are huge. I have narrow feet, so I normally wear a 7.5 in most shoes, and a 7 in Frye boots. The size 7 was much too big all over, and the footbed was nearly 1" longer than all my other Fryes! I tried ordering another size 7, hoping the first pair was just a fluke, but they fit just the same. I ended up trying on the size 6.5 in Nordstrom and it fit fine (a little narrow, but leather stretches as you wear it). Bizarre.

I have a pair of the Frye Paige riding boots. They have been the best pair of shoes ever so have been on the hunt for about a year now for another pair of Frye boots. I ordered the Lindsay Plate and could not even get pull them on! I am 5'9, athletic build and have larger calves and I could not get them past the widest part of my calves. They look amazing and are a beautiful boot but I sent them back the next day. Although I do have bigger legs than the average girl, I am under the impression that these boots are made for someone with smaller than average legs. Also, I can see the issue that many of the other reviewers say regarding the instep. Even if I would have been able to get them past my calf, the instep was very difficult. Great boots but not for me.

Nice boot. Way too hard to get on...jumping around and tipping over. It's the instep. I'm going to return and buy a pair with a zipper of some sort.

Not what I expected from Frye boots. Stiff and really wide shaft, and I have athletic legs. Sent back. Quality not up to Frye standards. I have two other pairs of Frye that I love!

I really wanted a nice flat boot to wear with both business and casual clothing. This boot is beautiful and felt comfortable, but when worn under slacks it is too masculine looking. I want a flat black boot to wear with dress slacks to work when it is too cold to wear a ballet flat. This boot is great looking when worn outside of jeans, but looks like qa man's shoe when worn under wider bottom dress slacks.

This is one of the most uncomfortable boots. I am 5.4 and the boot hurts right above the knee with each step. It may work for taller women. The boots are beautiful though.

These boots are beautiful! I bought them in Redwood. I'm a size 6.5 but got them in a size 6 because reviews mentioned these ran large. The 6 was still too big though so I exchanged them and went a full size down (from my usual 6.5) and exchanged them for a size 5.5. The 5.5s were really hard to get on - I used the "plastic bag" technique to help...and once I got them on they felt perfect on my 13.5" calves (wearing leggings) and perfect in the foot, but tight in the ankle area. Still, it looks gorgeous and I am expecting the ankle area to stretch out with wear - the boots felt more comfortable the 2nd time I had them on, so I'm convinced these stretch and mold to your feet with more wear! Buy these, they're so gorgeous! I had two coworkers compliment me on them.

These are great looking, shiny black leather boots. Unfortunately, there is no zipper, which made them impossible to put on. Don't buy unless you have a flat arch, narrow foot, and skinny calves. Or otherwise have a super flexible foot.

Not the most comfortable boot I ever wore. Very stiff and hard to break in. Hard to put on and take off. Great style though if walking wasn't an issue. I was going to return but found a buyer and got a different brand.

This is NOT the boot for you if you have any kind of calf. Which is a bummer because I really love the style and it's the most supportive of the Frye styles I've tried. But this boot is styled for skinny legs.

These boots were gorgeous but the info is a bit misleading. The shaft circumference says 13" but even with skinny jeans on, my legs still had a lot of wiggle room. I am on a mission to find the best boots for me, but as always great service from Zappos!

This boot is incredibly beautiful and stylish - but like other reviewers have noted, the calf circumference is enormous. I wear a 9 and have 13" calves, give or take. Even with thick socks and skinny jeans, I was swimming in these boots. I had to return them. So sad!

This boot has nice style but I was not impressed with the leather. I have had a variety of boots here to try and for the cost of these comared to others I have seen, not impressed with quality.

Disappointed. Ordered two pairs of Frye Boots. The Lindsay Plate looks beautiful but I could not get them on my left foot. Strange. The other pair of Frye's that I ordered in the same size fit perfectly. These will be going back.
