The information on this boot is incorrect. It lists the shaft circumference to be 13 inches on a size 8 boot. I ordered a size 9 boot and the shaft circumference was actually about 16 inches. Beautiful boot, but too wide on the shaft for me. Returning :(

I waited a full year to place my review of these boots. Let me start by saying: buy them. These boots were a major investment for me but they're worth it. I wore these boots every almost every day last winter (my coworkers started calling me Boots...like the monkey from Dora the Explorer) so I can list the positives and the negatives that I encountered. Negatives: 1) They squeaked. It wasn't super noticeable (trust me, I asked people) but in my right boot there was a light squeak. I walk all day at work so it was clearly just from my moisture building up. I even got in contact with Zappos about it and (being the amazing customer service company they are) they even offered to exchange the boots but I decided to just try a few anti-moisture techniques and they worked. 2) The original heels need a little care. In the first 5 months of having the boots I had to have the back heel replaced twice since it's separated into two pieces and the piece closer to the toe kept coming off. I eventually went to my new shoe repairman this year, explained the problem, and he just took off the original two-part back sole and put on a thicker one-part sole. I imagine every two years or so I will need to have them redone, so be prepared for the upkeep of any boots. Positives: 1) You will receive endless compliments, people will constantly ask you where you got your boots from and you will have the perfect wardrobe essential. 2) These boots are so easy to dress up or down. I got them in the Dark brown Smooth Full Grain and it's the perfect level of darkness so that they go with everything. Seriously. Everything. 3) The quality of the leather is amazing and will last a very long time. 4) The plate in the back is not only cute but also helps you remove the boots without damaging the leather when you're in a hurry.

The intoxicating aroma of leather hit me before I even opened the box. Very nice quaility. Had to return due to my difficult to fit feet. High instep, wide toe box, skinny heel/ankle. Instep was tight for me and heel slipped, although I hear that is common for Frye's

An important note regarding the Fawn color--I ordered them based on the photo that a department store shows on their website, and they are NOT almost black as this Zappos pic shows. Instead, they are the most beautiful neutral dark taupe with a few blackish accents, not one color as shown; in other words, perfect with black and yet brown enough to be your new brown boots. I also ordered the old standby tan and it's gorgeous as well!! I'm a real cowgirl with horses so I'm used to slip-on boots; these are a little harder to pull on, leather a bit stiff but will soften up, and boy are they really comfortable with padded insoles. Can dress up or down; the leather quality is fabulous. I recommend them highly--true to size, smallish calves (I'm 5'9" and 130 lbs) so they don't look sloppy. Just outrageously cool!

Amazing boots! My legs are skinny, and my feet are flat and narrow so I have trouble finding boots that don't look too big on my legs. These boots are perfect! They are narrow and slim fitting, which is great for me. I can see how others say they can't get their foot into them, but they fit me perfectly. And I get compliments every time I wear them! Thank you Frye and Zappos!

I'm absolutely giddy! I love these boots! They fit like they were custom made for me. My first pair of Frye Cavalry Boots - which I've had for about 8 years, are some of my favorites and very true to size. I wore (pre-daughter) a consistent 8 1/2M. Now, though I can still wear my old shoes, 9's feel better, so I ordered these in a 9. They are great! The shaft is long, but stops just at the bend of my knee so they are comfortable (I'm 5'3") and fit just right over my calves with leggings or jeggings. Getting them off is sort of funny - would be nice to have a pal or partner to help pull them off. The quality is beautiful. They arrived today and I'm wearing them out to lunch.

I bought these boots in burnt red and just got them home today. Let me start by saying that they are beautiful and that I am in love with them. The color is rich and absolutely gorgeous. They are no less than stunning and I am so excited to wear them when the weather cools off. Now, with all of that that said, as basically everybody else has said: it is not easy to get these boots on and off. I, too, have a high instep and struggled for 20 minutes to get the boot on my right foot with my thinnest tights on after I first took them from their box. Once my boots were both on it was clear that the footbeds are true to size, it's the tough-to-maneuver, zipper-less ankle that is the problem (and, I think, the true reason why so many people are saying to order up half of a size). If you have a really high instep, then these boots may not work for you! If you're determined, have some time, and are and wiling to stretch the boots using successively thicker socks and plastic bags (to help slide your feet into the boots) then you may be able to make it work. I've been working with mine for hours (again, with successively thicker socks, plastic bags, and leather oil) and am only now getting to the point where I'm not breaking a sweat to get the boots on and off!

I'm about 5 feet tall, on the slender side with smallish calves, and usually wear a 4.5-5 size shoe, so finding boots that aren't too tall, too wide, and too big is a challenge. But these boots are PERFECT!! They fall just below my knees and the slight asymmetry at the top actually makes my short legs look longer. The calf circumference is loose enough to wear over jeans/pants, but tight enough to be wore with stockings and/or a skirt. I ordered a 5.5, which I thought might be too big but ended up fitting perfectly, with just enough room for winter socks. The overall quality of the leather and craftsmanship of the boots is excellent. I got them in Redwood; they're the most gorgeous tone of deep, warm brown. Beautiful, comfortable boot and perfect for petite women!

Starting off, I'm wearing my boots for the first time today and LOVE them! I can smell the leather sitting here. They are gorgeous- the nicest thing I've ever owned in the shoe department! Now, I have to figure out if I can live without the redwood color! They DO seem to run a half size small- I wear an 8M and they HURT my feet. I wasn't about to pay this much to have boots that may or may not loosen up over time. I went up to an 8.5 which is perfect BUT- the pair that arrived in 8.5 looked to be mismatched. The one boot was scratched- my husband said it looked like a dog had jumped up and marred it. The other boot was fine! Also, the boots didn't come with the standard crumpled paper in the foot or cardboard in the shaft- I noticed that immediately and was concerned.HUGE disappointment and hassle! Zappos made it right- got another pair out to me, apologized and assured me the new boots would be checked prior to leaving the warehouse. This pair is PERFECT! Did I mention how GORGEOUS these boots are? LOVE them!

I love my Frye Lindsay Plate. I bought the Burnt Red Smooth Full Grain. I am a very picky person when it comes to boots. Before I bought this pair I also bought a pair from Stuart Weitzman. Frye boots felt better overall and it's half the price of Weitzman. I ended returning the Weitzman. I am 5'3'' and have a small calf and the boots fit perfectly. The size is a little bigger than usual which let's me wear thick wool socks. I love the looks and feel of this boots. I wear everywhere and all day all the time. My husband joked that I would wear them to bed. I look forward to enjoying this pair for years or even decades. Even considering of buying another pair. Of course, Zappos made the ordering super easy.

I love these boots. I am a size 7, medium width, and that's what I ordered. They fit perfectly, no issues with calf size. They are a tiny bit snug pushing into (and pulling off) through the ankle area, but I would expect that of any boot that doesn't have a zipper. I'd order them again in a heartbeat. I've probably worn them 10 times in the few weeks I've had them.

These are some of the most beautiful boots I have ever seen. However, I am 5'4" and they came right to my knee-cap. They also have amazing arch support and are one of the most comfortable pairs I have tried. SO SAD!

This boot is very well constructed. I bought a half size up because my instep is very high, but they seem a bit roomy in the toe box which is fine for boot socks. The red color is very rich and beautiful. I find them a bit difficult to remove but I'm sure with more use that will improve. I love these boots and will certainly buy Frye again. Amazing product!

I am delighted with these! I got lucky with the fit - they took almost no time to break in and the shaft size is perfect for my (average-sized, I think?... I've never measured) calves. Though I'm an 8.5 in most shoes, I'm typically an 8 in Fryes, and these were no exception. And I I have no trouble slipping them off and on as long as I'm wearing socks/tights. The construction feels solid and lovely, they look equally good with skirts and skinny pants, and I've received lots of compliments on them. I love that there's no zipper to interrupt the look or worry about breaking. They're great to walk in - only complaint is that they sometimes pull my socks down my heels a little. I'm not sure what these come treated with, but I used mink oil on them to soften/waterproof, and it did not darken the color of the leather as it normally does.

Love, love, love these boots! They are just beautiful, butter soft and really well-made. I ride for pleasure and have found that Frye is the only boot company that makes boots that are the same quality as my actual riding boots. I've tried other boots and just need to stick with Frye. They are expensive but so worth it. I normally wear an 8 1/2 AA and have a 14 1/2 inch calf and the 8M fits great...a little big in the heel, but I expected that. The shaft fits fine over jeans.

I love boots and this has become my go to pair. A bit of panic getting my foot round the ankle hump on first wearing, but they softened quickly and glide on and off now. Very comfortable. I can wear them all day. They feel and look great!

Every pair fits differently! The first 8.5 pair I ordered fit more like a 9 (I wear an 8 1/2) and slipped in the heels. Overall they felt too large and bulky at the ankles. Sending back. The second 8.5 pair that I ordered from Zappos fits wonderfully! You cannot beat the quality of Frye - nothing else comes close in quality. Love this pair of boots. Thank you Zappos for allowing me to send back the first pair to find a pair that I was happy with! Whoo Hoo!

These boots are beautiful. I usually wear a size 8 but I ordered them in a size 7.5. They fit perfect that is after wrestling them on past the heel. The leather is high quality. I love my Frye boots cant wait to wear them out.

I am 5'1 and my lower leg measures 14.5" from the floor to just below my kneecap. My calves measure 13.5 inches at the widest part and my ankles measure 9". NEGATIVES: Because the boot hit my leg at the skinniest part as compared to the calf or the thigh, the boots made me look more like a swashbuckler rather than an equestrian. There was a gap between my leg and the boot that I could shove my hand into. I even looked into having them cut down to size, but there would still be that gap. :( If you have my proportions, look into a boot that has a shaft height of about 13" for that really flattering, close to the leg fit. This is next to impossible to find in an off the rack riding boot, but quite possible in cowboy or motorcycle style boots. POSITIVES: These are beautiful, well contracted boots. The leather is smooth and smells wonderful out of the box. The boots are well made with even, solid looking stitching throughout. They slide on and off with minimal effort and felt very comfortable walking around my house. THE BOTTOM LINE: If you have lower legs that measure 15.5"or more from floor to kneecap these boots will likely fit you well. They are a simple well constructed riding boot that would look as great in the arena as out on a date. If you are short and do not want to look like you're dressing up as a pirate for Halloween, I strongly recommend passing on this style.

These are beautiful boots! If only they came in a wide calf option..... Sadly I will be returning them. They were just too tight around my calf - especially with jeans. I couldn't pull them up high enough and they bunched around the ankle. While I know leather boots break in after wear they just seemed like they would still be too tight. I have athletic, but not overly-large calves. I'll be getting the Frye Veronica slouch instead.

I got these last year. I felt they were a bit stiff at first in the foot area- but not so much that it affected my walking. They end up just going with EVERY outfit- and I wore them 2-5 times a week. This year I just started wearing them again and I LOVE them. I'm pretty hard on shoes (live in nyc and walk everywhere) but they are still in great condition. I generally have to repair boots every year and these will take twice that time, I'm guessing based on the condition they are in. Also the stiffness I felt immediately upon purchase that wore off rather quickly.

Love these boots!! I usually wear an 8 but always get a half size up in boots. My 8.5 fit perfect. Was a bit difficult getting on initially as others stated but after a couple wears no issues. Calf size fit 14.5 but is tight and need to wear these with leggings or skinny jeans. Overall I am super happy with these boots and get lots of compliments. They are beautiful and will last a long time.

This is my first pair of Fryes, and they are absolutely living up to the hype! These boots are effortlessly chic, comfortable, and elegant. The leather is such high quality. On the first day, they felt as if I'd been wearing them for a year. Definitely worth every penny! They're timeless.

Just received my Fawn Lindsay's today...they are a nice shade of neutral brown with a subtle black patina on the toes. I am a 7 in most shoes (heels, etc) but have found that in boots (doesn't matter the brand) I am 6.5 & that's what I ordered. I was a little concerned at first because these boots don't have a zipper & I have a fairly high arch. After a lot of wiggling, I managed to get my bigger right foot in this boot...the left foot squeezed in with less trouble. Once on, I loved them. Very comfy. I imagine that with the help of a boot horn & a little wear, these will ease up. No problem getting them off, fortunately. I have very skinny calves & these were not too oversized for me if I'm wearing tights. They will be perfect for jeans -- I'll need the extra inch for jeans since there is no zipper. Don't understand the comment about them being so big...I think I have the skinniest calves in town & they are just right!

I love this boot, but it does seem to run a little large, so definitely don't order up if you think about doing so. The color and feel of the leather is beautiful. The shaft is definitely snug, so don't expect to tuck in very thick pants into this boot. Well worth the money. Absolutely beautiful.
