I agree with some of the other reviews that these shoes are far from cute. However I'm able to walk between 3 and 5 miles every day and not have any Achilles or arch pain. I love them for that!

I have been wearing New Balance shoes for years and have no problem going to the 928 shoe from the 927. I like the fact there are metal grommet for the top lace eyelets. I always have trouble with the shoe laces eyelet stretching out on the old model. That doesn't happen with the new model. As for size and fit the 928 is more comfortable and took less time to get use to than the 927. In fact I just ordered a mens pair for my husband to try. Thank you Zappos for delivering them so fast since I was going away for a long weekend and needed them before I left. I can always count on you guys!

Well, after complaining about the change and wearing these 928's a bit, I find them to be very comfortable and fit nicely. The heel was a bit more loose than the 927, but I laced them up a bit differently making them tighter in the top holes and they fit just fine and do not slip any longer.

I have been buying this style for years. It is wide enough in the toe box and doesn't slip at the ankle.
I'd also recommend:
New Balance is only athletic shoe which I can wear.

I, too, agree that they should not have stopped making the 927. Somehow the 928 feels "cheaper" and the support doesn't last as long. I also appreciated the extra stitching on the toe box that the 927 had. That little bit of stitching made the shoe look a little more "sporty" and not so "orthopedic". I wear the New Balance shoes at the suggestion of my podiatrist who has been helping me deal with plantar fasciitis. I wish they would bring back the 927 design. It was just better all around. Thanks for listening.

I have a hard to fit foot - narrow heel, but NB always works for me. I get the B width to provide toe room and lace it up tight. Love the color, nice change from white or gray but not neon bright!

I have never had much luck with New Balance but because the brand is noted for having different widths thought I would give it a go. This shoe was highly recommended for feet that pronate and mine do! I have worn Brooks Addictions for over a decade but thought I'd try a different shoe and slightly different "look". Brooks has been changing it's Addiction design for it running shoes over the past few years and I've been living on stockpiled older versions. The walking shoe is supposedly the old reliable. Still thought I'd try another highly recommended brand for feet that pronate. The medium was a bit wide all over. I like the perforated leather and rounded toes, different from the Brooks. Still the leather was very stiff and the heel cup was wider requiring me to lace to the very top which then caused the tongue to press against the curve of my upper feet where it meets the ankle area. The cushioning and arch support (not as aggressive as the Brooks) were fine but overall the toe box would "wrinkle" on the left side (my narrower, less cushy foot). Not so comfy when the leather is stiff. Disappointing. I thought the Narrow would mean a narrower heel cup but it only seemed to mean a narrower toe box. For the price, I would have expected something proportioned with a narrower heel as well and with a better quality leather. Too bad. Guess my feet still belong in Brooks Addiction walking shoes! Am so glad for continued quality service from Zappos, however!

If you live in an area where it rains and you walk on pavement, you might not want to buy this shoe. Unlike the model 927 that came right before this one, the sole is now very smooth and the shoe hardly grips the wet concrete. It fits about same as the 927 but it might have a bit less toe room, not quite sure of this.

This model feels like the one it replaced W927, but it looks uglier. Don't know why they changed the shoe. This shoe is good if your feet are a bit narrower than a true medium.

Being someone with small wide feet, I have limited options. This is one in a 4E. I do find New Balance runs big. Making me a size 8 to everyone else's size 7-7.5. The toe box is a little wider than the former model which I despised. I've been thru all models it seems and have mesh and leather types. This has a straight last, bottom of shoe does not curve in, it's straight, which are hard to find and are good for pronators. The heels are a bit loose as always happens, so I do a runners lace. Problem is that the laces are too short. Why do companies that make wide or large sizes not use bigger laces? I like that these are lighter weight than the leather and are cooler too. Wish more companies made straight last wide shoes that were not ugly!
I'd also recommend:
depends on their feet type. Propet, but they run completely different in sizing when you put the on.

I LOVE these shoes. I have a very wide foot and I ordered 4E and had to down size from 7.5 to 6.5. They could use some padding in the bed (I put in some Dr. Scholls) but other than that they are nice.

I have bad feet, and have worn New Balance for years, so when I needed a new pair I got these and am not disappointed. Yes, NB keeps changing the styles, and I agree that if it's not broken leave it alone. They are a bit on the heavy side, and maybe the heel is a bit large but they are comfortable. One thing I definitely like is they have a wide toe, which I need. I am very hard for shoes and hopefully these will last like the others have. I didn't get these from Zappos, but you can bet your last dollar that when I need a new pair I will.

I bought this same shoe last year in a beige material that a shoe salesman said would be more giving to wide feet like mine and he was right. Although comfortable and supportive, they seem stiffer than the ones made with suede material.

I have worn this specific shoe for many years. Love the support. However the last 2 pair I bought feel different in the toes are not as comfortable. Not sure if they changed something. I'm hoping with time they feel better.

The built in arch support on this shoe is too high for those of us that wear custom orthotics. Without my custom orthotic the shoe wasn't enough. With it, my arch support felt jammed into my foot. The Mesh version of this shoe is more forgiving and doesn't have this problem. But the leather versions are too constrictive and the arch is built too high in the shoe.

Love these shoes. They are cool in the summer. They work with my custom orthotics whereas the leather version of this shoe, doesn't! The built in arch is a little high.

These shoes have a good wide toe box and a nice narrow heel so that they do not slip. My orthotics fit comfortably. There is a little pressure on my ankles on the side that is inside for each shoe and I hope that part loosens up and spreads out over time. I have a very active job and have worn them twice now with no blisters or pain on the inside ankles or anywhere else.

It's not a pretty shoe, but it's the most supportive sneaker I've ever worn. I'm on my feet for 9 hours in a row at my job and the 928 keeps me stable. I wear black most of the time, so the all-black 928 is my pick. I am disappointed with the construction of my latest pair; the plastic stability bar in the heel squeaks with every step. Wonderful wide toe box, though. The sole lasts forever.

I needed all white shoes. Due to my feet as they are, New Balance is about all I wear, 24/7/365. So I am calling these my dress shoes. I am so sad. They are a SL2 last, which is supposed to have a wider toe box. These are no where near as wide there as my other SL2 last shoes. And for a day or two I thought that I might have to send them back but they stretched out enough now that they are very comfortable. I use my own orthotics to get the arch support I need but the motion control, etc. is as good as the others I wear such as the 1012 and 1340.

I've been wearing the New Balance women's walking shoe for many years, in several previous versions of this latest model 928. I was hesitant to get this new version after reading the reviews about loose heel, plain styling and construction criticism, but found it was none of those, and has the same out-of-the-box comfort as before. I purchased the black 928 in women's size 10, 2A width, for my narrow foot. They fit perfectly, with a roomy toebox and snug sides after lacing up. The first day I tried them around the house, making sure the heel was as snug as the older models. They felt very comfortable with no breaking in needed. For the first hour I felt a slight difference in walking, but only because my last pair had worn down at the heels before I got around to ordering these. The next day I wore them all day, and had good cushioning on concrete, asphalt and all other surfaces. They are lightweight with good attention to detail, clean shoelace holes and straight stitching. The only drawback is the same as the past versions -- the crevices of the rubber soles will pick up small stones from the yard or gravel paths. Even after wiping my feet on a brush-type boot cleaner they still leave those stones all over my house. If it wasn't for that, I would have scored them a full 5 stars in Overall category. The all-black, plain, non-sporty styling looks fine to me, makes my big feet look shorter and smaller and that is a good thing. The areas with ventilation holes is a new feature, and may be one of the reasons the shoe is not too warm on hot days. I hope Timberland R&D will someday correct the design of the tread on the sole, so there is no debris problem. These are recommended by my foot doctor for my flat feet/plantar fasciitis, and have a removable footbed so my own orthotics can be used. I plan to buy more of this model and in other colors while they are still available. They arrived quickly in a few days, as promised, double boxed, and in perfect condition.

This shoe as good lateral support. It keeps my ankles aligned when walking. The bottom padding is comfortable with good support. I would prefer the leather be smooth instead of suede.

I love these shoes because without them I could not begin to do what I have been doing - walking 5-6 miles a day. My feet are very wide, very sensitive (other shoes cause me all kinds of annoying injuries), I have neuropathies from chemo, and I get neuromas. Jeez. With these shoes, I can really walk. Otherwise, not so much. I hate these shoes because they are so very ugly. Seriously! Hello New Balance and all other shoe companies, why do the wide shoes have to be so horrendous?! Is it a punishment of some sort for having wide feet? I am so envious of women wearing shoes with actual color and style.

Got these for my Mom who needs a 4E width in a small size. NB in these kinds of shoes seem to run a little small so I ordered the 6.5 and they seem to fit good so far. Not overly stylish but better than her orthopedic shoes. These are classified as diabetic shoes which also mattered to me.

These shoes are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn and also the very ugliest! I wore them every day on my walking trip in Scotland two weeks ago. I walked up Arthur's Seat in them and down again. If you want comfort and no style, these are the shoes for you. I highly recommend them.

New Balance 900 series are great shoes for people with feet, leg, or back problems. This pair with the partial mesh upper is not as comfortable as the solid leather pair that I ordered last year. The toe box and set of shoe footbed is different. It is still better than the lower numbered shoes. Thanks Zappos for great service.
