OK, these boots ARE beautiful. However, be well aware that it will take multiple times of wearing them to even start breaking them in. Particularly because how the strap is wrapped around your ankle, it rubs lots at the back and the zipper was VERY difficult to pull up the first few times I wore them to the point I was regretting keeping them.
The foot portion is also a wee bit tight - don't expect to wear thick socks with them if you stay true to size. I honestly think if I went a size up, however, they would've been too big and awkward to walk in.
The things we do for fashion....

These boots were purchased for my partner, who had one heck of a time finding boots that are high quality as well as stylish. These were the boots she found, and they have turned out to tremendous so far.

I liked the look of these boots, but as other reviewers have stated, they have two fatal flaws: (1) the calves are just a tad too narrow. I can squeeze in them with a skirt, but would be harder with jeans. If they could just be 1 cm wider, Id be happy. (2) The zippers are crap. They are very hard to zip/unzip, both on and off. I am fearful that these zippers would break. Returning.

This image goes with my previous review is to show how crazy wrinkly the shaft is on this otherwise beautiful boot!

Beautiful boot in the foot area, but the leather is all wrinkly on the boot's shaft. I didn't notice before I ordered. It makes what would otherwise be a stunning boot look cheap to me. But if the wrinkly leather thing doesn't bother you, this boot is clearly well constructed a boot. Color is fabulous. I did notice the feel of the zipper in the back of the heel a bit too, but bet you'd wouldn't notice it after it was broken in.

These are gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous boots. Just a bit edgy, totally wearable. Sadly, I had to send them back. Although the seem to be the smallest calf circumference available from Frye, they were still too big for my (exactly) 14 inch calves, which I feel are really pretty average. I don't know what women with really thin legs do for boots! In flat boots, the only ones I've found that I can wear are La Canadienne (Passion and Sunday) Bed Stu Gogo Lugs, and Miz Mooz. If they can make wide calf boots, you'd think they would be able to make some narrow calf styles. Thank goodness for Zappos and their amazing customer service!

I love my new boots, the only complaint is the soles are so smooth that I had to buy no-slip stick soles before I could wear them. Even the heels are completely smooth. But other than that, they are great.

Beautiful boots and exquisite quality. They fit perfectly around my calves. I always wear a size 5.5, but boy were these tight around my feet! I then ordered a size 6 for comparison, which slipped around more than I would’ve liked. The 5.5 B width seemed more like a N width. The other reviewer who said the shaft is wider for bigger sizes is correct. The size 6B had a bigger shaft. Not sure which pair if either I’ll keep. Trying shoe trees to see if the 5.5s will stretch enough. I suppose if I were using the boots for horseback riding I would pick the tighter fit. It’s hard to find boots with a narrower shaft. Would think about keeping them both and just swap back and forth between the 2 sizes if they weren’t so expensive. Maybe inserts will help the size 6s fit better.

I love the style of this boot! The leather is amazingly soft and beautiful. I have worn these 3 times now. Like the other reviews I also found the zipper was hard at first however each time I have worn them it has gotten much easier. I vary between an 8 and 8.5. The 8 was a little tight at first but the 8.5 slipped up and down way too much on my heel. The 8 has stretched and is comfortable now. As for the zipper rubbing on the ankle I have also experienced this. The first day was very tender. I didn't have any tenderness the last time I wore these boots. I was also concerned about the zipper going around my calves the first time. I could barely get them in. I am 5"1 with athletic calves. However each time I wore them that also got easier. It's no problem zipping now. They look so amazing with my dresses and skirts! The only reason I am giving these a 4 is the zipper issue

I have trouble finding boots that have a smaller circumference at the top of the boot. These boots work! Most Frye boots leave a giant gap on me, but not these. Finally! The leather is gorgeous. I have the black color. The detail is nice. I see these lasting a lifetime.

I got these boots for Christmas and I love the look and feel! Only bad things I can say is that I needed to go up a half size because my normal size was tight and they are flat on the bottom so there is not much traction for the first few wears.

These boots are gorgeous and very comfortable. The leather is so soft and the quality is second to none. I think these run small and narrow for the shape of my foot - I have a fairly square foot and all Frye boots seem to have a pretty narrow toe box, which I assume is standard for the brand style. I normally wear a 7.5 or 8 and I ordered these in an 8.5, same sizing as my other Frye boots. The zipper is very difficult to zip while these are on the first few times but did break in after a few uses. These are tight around the calf - the size difference between these and the wide calf is marginal and I think the wide calf circumference is probably more standard. If you’re looking for a boot with some wiggle room in the shaft, you should consider another style as these are a snug, calf-hugging fit. My only complaint is how slippery these are - the sole is very hard and smooth, walking on carpet with these is dangerous!

I have narrow ankles so find my feet slipping up and down with each step I take. I have not decided whether or not keep them. Have to see whether I can find a way to add something to counter to slippage. Otherwise, I love the style and beauty of the leather. I had to order 1/2 size up. Usually wear 7 1/2m. Size 8 was a perfect length and width. The 7 1/2 was a little too narrow and very difficult to zip up.

Great boot especially if you want a slim fit!! I've had many compliments. I give 4 stars because the heel had constructability issues which caused knee pain. I would have sent back but didn't want to deal with the hassle and I was able to fix issue on my own!!

I did really like this boot but returned it because the color was more dark brown than cognac. This boot fits true to size. I wear 7.5 and it was a good fit.

This boot fits well. I have small calves so it nice to finally find a pair of tall boots that fits my calves. I did have a pinching feeling at the back of my heels from the zipper. I don't know if the zipper was caught in my sock and that's what creating the sensation. I will update the post once I wear the boots again.

I love Frye boots because the high quality of the leather and craftsmanship. The dark brown color is beautiful, I'm between 7.5-8 , and got size 8 for winter thick socks. My calf is 13.5-14, and there's a little gap between the opening of my calf and top of the boots. I think that the gap will be filled nicely if I wear Jean and tuck in. Overall, it fits well and very comfortable.

I bought these in the regular calf size, but got them in the mail and could not zip them up! I've never had an issue with calf size in boots, so I went ahead and ordered the extended calf size - very easy return/exchange process. They fit perfectly now! I have a pair of Melissa button boots which had almost no break-in period and these do feel a bit stiffer in the foot area. The soft leather in the calf is lovely though. Like other reviewers, the zipper is tough to pull up, but I'm sure it'll break in just fine. They're definitely more of a casual boot, but I'll work them into my work outfits :) They really are a beautiful, impeccably made pair of boots.

I am very happy with this boot, as I have really skinny legs and small calves. Most boots are way too big for me and it's really hard to find boots to fit. I like the lower heel which is more comfortable for me and the sporty look. One minor drawback for me, I am 5 ft so the boot is slightly tall and when I sit, I can feel the top of the boot hitting the back of my knees. But am am willing to overlook that since the calves fit. Overall, very happy with this boot.

I have bought more than 10 pairs of boots throughout the past year, looking for the perfect fit. I'm 5 feet tall with rather skinny legs and can't seem to find riding boots that DON'T look like galoshes on me. These were the ones. Unfortunately they were also the most expensive, but I can tell they are of high quality. They stand sturdily, the color matches the photo and seem like they'd be warm and cozy. The calf fit is tighter - if you have wide calves, these are NOT for you. They also run small, but because I assume that they'll stretch, I kept my regular size 6. The cons were the tighter fit plus the wonky zipper that I actually bruised my hand trying to zip and unzip (reason for 4 star rating).

I went to a store to try these on first, before ordering from here. The reviews are all over the place in terms of sizing, so it is hard to make a decision based on reviews. As a boot addict, here's what I can say about shopping for boots (or shoes in general). Do not get stuck on a number. Start with your known size and move up or down from there. In other words, there is nothing bad about having to go up a half or full size, ladies! It's just a number!!! Try on shoes at the end of the day when your feet are likely to be swollen from a full day of activity. If the shoes don't fit well when you first put them on, they will NEVER fit well. This concept of "they will stretch" is nonsense. They might give a little in width, but they will never get longer. My experience with this boot is that my normal size 8 was too short. Wearing non-cushioned Smartwool socks, I had to size up 1/2 size so that my toes would not hit the tip of the boot and the widest part of my foot (the ball of the foot) comfortably fit the widest part of the shoe. If you can't wiggle your toes, the boot is too small. The size 8 is too short and the 8.5 has more room than I'd like. That said, I went with the larger size and plan to wear more padded socks. I learned my lesson from buying the Phillip Riding inside zip last year in size 8 and ended up not wearing it much because I realized it is too short!

So sad, my boots arrived and they were all scuffed up on the top of the foot. Also I think they run a bit small, or "true to size".. not big. I am an 8.5/9 and got the 8.5 as everyone said they run big.. so now beyond the scuff am returning because they are too small. I will order new ones, as they are beautiful!
