No doubt Frye makes a beautiful boot but they are too stiff for me on top of my foot and slick on the bottom (that would probably go away after roughing them up) I returned them and bought a super comfortable pair of Ecco tall boots that were comfortable from the first step

I ordered these in antique black and antique gray. The reason for two colors is that I could not decide if I wanted the black or brown (gray). The gray definitely is Brown with only slight graying in the antiquing. I sent the gray back, although I wanted to keep both. These truly are beautiful boots and true to size. These boots are time consuming to put on with the zipper and snaps. If I could get my heel in without zipping all the way to bottom (hence, undoing snap) then it would be a quicker on/off. This for me is not a problem, if you want quick on/off, these may not be for you. Comfortable right out of box. However, my only disappointment is that after several wears (on concrete) I noticed that the right boot shaft is slightly twisted. Just like that pair of jeans we all own that twist and the seam is off center. For the cost I expect better quality. My first Frye I own and they won't be my last. The model in video must have very slim calves, as I see she has extra room at the top. My calves are of medium size and I find that only Jeggings or very slim jeans will tuck in without the bunched up look (which I find unattractive). As always, I love Zappos!

These fit great and were comfortable right out of the box. The only detail that bugs me is the snap at the top of the zipper: when I cross my legs, the snap snags my pants and pops open. Other than that, a great boot.

This still is not what I am looking for. Though, the cognac color is gorgeous, the shoes themselves are impressive, the fit exquisite except as usual, the calf-circumference is not made for athletic women. I could get it stretched but that discolors the leather. So, no more Fryes. I have got to try others now and I am so disappointed.

As a long-term fan of Frye, I keep giving them another shot. But the quality has increasingly gone downhill over the past several years. While I love the style of these boots, after owning them for just a couple of months I'm noticing lack of traction in the sole, leather peeling off at the toes, and structure breaking down. Got these at 30% off and still don't feel like I got my money's worth. I'll be exploring other brands from here on out.

I was really hoping these would be the perfect boot, but the boot shaft was too tight on my 16 in calf and I couldn't zip them all the way. I did notice that they don't have very good soles as I was my foot was slipping off the area rug while trying them on. Aside from the boot shaft, the fit was true to size.

I wish I had better things to say. These are beautiful but so very uncomfortable. Every time I wear them I regret it. They are my usually Frye size (9.5) but so tight across my foot that after a few hours I feel like I'm being strangled by my own boots. They felt snug at first but I thought they'd break. Sadly, despite wearing them probably a dozen times they still hurt. I'm in the process of stretching them with a shoe stretcher any maybe this will help me not regret my purchase.

The quality and style of the boot is amazing! I have several pairs of Frye's and love them. Unfortunately these were returned, they were easily a half size too small in the foot, my toes were squished and they felt narrow. The calf was extremely tight and they were short, hitting well below my knees. I prefer my boots a little higher. I'm on the tall side, 5'8" so that may be the issue with the height of the boot, but has the sizing changed over the years? I know my foot hasn't grown! And what's up with the tightness around the calves? I do work out so my legs are muscular, but they're not body builder muscular!

I love these boots! I am always a size 7 but I had to size up to a 7.5 for these. Zappos quickly processed the return and I had the boots the same day they received my return. They are a bit difficult to zip but that gets easier each time I wear them. Love the look and the quality.

I watched a waited for 2 years for these boots to go on sale (I couldn't justify the price) and when they did, I didn't hesitate to purchase them. Based on all the positive reviews, I had high expectations, and when my box arrived I was so excited. However, when I tried them on, I was truly disappointed. The boots are the HIGH QUALITY that I expected from Frye, and the leather is FABULOUS. BUT... these boots are not exactly like the pictures: 1) I know they are "pull on" style, but I thought that with the addition of the zipper they would be more fitted, but the ankle is VERY loose with practically no contouring at all, and honestly, from the side they look an awful lot like cowboy boots, 2) The toe is really flat and really POINTY, not rounded at all 3) I am 5'8" and these boots come up to just touching my knee caps, and the snap in the back rubs the back of my knees when they are at all bent, 4) I have 15" calves and the fit through mid-calf is fine, but the top is so loose I look like I'm wearing wellies, 5) They seem to run a little large, I am a solid size 10 and my feet were scooting around inside, especially my heel, and I'm not one to wear big thick socks just to make my boots fit. Alas, I thought that wearing them would make me like them better, but it didn't, and now I can't return them, so I'll probably keep them and we'll have a love/hate relationship.

The leather color is splotchy and looks like it already has water stains, although this is just the varied look of the leather. Difficult to get on and off. I am returning and buying the Reiker boots.

This is a very attractive and well made boot. My only reservation is that they take a long time to break in. The structure around the foot is very rigid (metal) and it cut into my feet the first time I wore them. If you get them, break them in slowly and wear extra socks the first few times. I am not there yet, but I assume they will be worth it once I get them fully broken in.

Disappointed. They are so stiff and the shaft is huge so they looked like galoshes on me! Sadly they will go back.

Out of the box, I loved this boot! I wanted it to work so badly...unfortunately, as soon as I put it on, it was way too tight for my entire foot. When I tried to zip it up, it wouldn't budge on my normal sized calves. As much as I wanted these to work, they will be returned immediately. There just is no workaround with it.

These boots are SO beautiful, and I am so disappointed that I have to send them back! My normal size is 6-6 , with 14 " calves. The extended calf was too big in both the size 6 and 6 . The regular shaft in the 6 was too tight. I managed to zip them up using a pair of pliers but then they looked bad - about to burst at the top and too loose and floppy at the ankle because I could not pull them up all the way. I was so disappointed. I guess I had better try a different style.

These boots are beautiful, but they won't work for me. I am 5'4" and 130lbs. I would say that I have a small frame. I've never had a pair of boots to be tight on my calf...until these. I tried two sizes, and both were way too tight. The zipper that goes up the back of the boot is quite hard to zip and unzip. Zappos has great customer service, so I'll keep looking here for a great black boot!

The top of these boots were super wide, even with jeans underneath. Not a great silhouette if you have thin legs/ ankles.

I don't know you guys! I want to love these boots but I don't. I ordered them in black. They just don't look that stylish on me. Also - they supposedly run narrow in the calf but I don't think they are that narrow! In the ankle they are quite narrow, but in the calf not so much. I have like a 14 inch calf. They are kind of giving me a clunky rain boot vibe. I wonder if they would look better in one of the lighter shades? I am so sorry to return these!

These are too tight. I bought these because I liked the look of the original Melissa, but the reviews made me leery to purchase because people complained of not being able to get them on. Then I found these. I was excited but when I tried them on I could not get them zipped up over my calfs. I have narrow calfs!

These boots are beautifully made but very hard to put on. Not what I thought they would be. They look more like rain boots than riding boots.
