I like these boots. They broke in well and are very comfortable, although they do still look a tad "rainboot." But they are the closest I've found to what I want and I think they will be a classic style for many years. Love the back zip.

Love these boots. Super comfy and an all-day kind of boot. Casual enough for nights, simple and classy enough for work.

Great looking boot. Comfortable. The shaft is tight when worn over jeans or corduroy. Boots come on and off very easily. Overall, glad I purchased these boots. I received many compliments on these boots. They require about a week's time for breaking in. Shaft does give a tiny bit, but not much.

Beautiful boots, but can't get them over my calves. :-( I've tried a lot, and I mean a lot, of boots this winter. I love the look and feel of these, but the circumference is too small for me. They're going back. But otherwise I would highly recommend if you have a smaller calf (I would call my calf medium, anything over 15 inches seems to fit). The souls are real leather, so they will be slippery at first.

I love the styling of this boot, and the heel hight is perfect, but found it very difficult to get my foot into the boot. Perhaps it's my high instep? These beautiful boots are going back.

I bought these a couple of months after buying another style of Frye boots and I love them both. This is the perfect black city boot - looks good with leggings, jeans or slightly dressed up with skinny black velvet pants. The profile of these boots is very understated (no buckles, no shiny hardware). The zipper up the back with the two buttons (one at heel and one at top of calf) is simple but sophisticated. Very comfortable from the first wear. As with the other pair of Frye boots I ordered at the same time, the zippers seem to get stuck for no reason sometimes. Not a huge problem for such a gorgeous boot, but hopefully Frye will source another zipper in the future. This is the only reason I'm not giving 5 stars. Gorgeous boot!

I have been dying to get a pair of Frye boots for a very very long time and finally after reading so many reviews on several different styles I opted for these. I wanted to love them so much because they are just GORGEOUS in person. I love the color, the leather, the style, everything. But I have to return them because they were cutting off my circulation on my calf. I could barely zip them and I only tried them on with socks. There was no way I would be fitting skinny jeans in there. I never considered myself to have wide calves, 'm fairly average in build. Plus, I've never had problems with zip up boots in the past, but I guess these were just different. I'm going to try to order the extended version, but I don't really see a 1/4 inch making that much of a difference. I am truly heartbroken that these didn't work.

These boots are orange gorge. Fell in love with them when I saw them in the cognac on a model in a Neiman Marcus add for Frye boots. Only problem, which is a deal breaker for me, is that there is a rubbing / pressure causing pain on the ankle area, I think due to my prominent ankle bones. They have a great arch support that I haven't experienced before in a long boot. They are pretty much perfect in every way, except for the ankle problem, for me, and, they could be a little shinier. They are so nearly boot perfection. Sigh.

After reading all the reviews, I thought I finally found the boot for me. Most boots have such wide openings/calves that they look like galoshes on me. Sadly, these were no different. They were way too baggy around the ankles/lower calf. I really want to love them but for the price I do not want to feel like I am wearing rainboots! I wish boot makers would throw us slim to normal calved women a well fitting boot instead of catering to the wide width folks so much. On the positive side, these were beautiful boots. I ordered the wine color, which was more red than I had anticipated. But still quite gorgeous. Also, the fit of the foot was perfect. I felt like I could walk around in these all day. Unfortunately, these will be going back. The search continues.

I was really excited about purchasing my first pair of Frye boots. Unfortunately I was a little disappointed when they arrived. I ordered the vintage chocolate glaze. I didn't anticipate them being so shiny, but I suppose that's what glaze means. I have never really measured my calves but I didn't assume I would have any problem as I have plenty of pairs of boots that fit just fine. Well, I could barely zip these boots over my, I guess, monstrous calves. I could zip them but not even a pair of tights would have fit under these boots. I'm 5'6" curvy, aka, chubby but athletic-ish. Measured my calves and 15 1/4 inches just wasn't right for these boots. Lesson learned, measure your calves when your buying fancy pants boots online. I'm exchanging for a different style and color Frye boot. Hopefully, these will be the right fit.

Very high quality leather and seems to be well made. I chose the dark brown color which is a very deep brown. However, I'm not a fan of the sheen on the leather and it reminds me of my Wellies. So back they go (too expensive not to LOVE everything about them!).

I was so in hopes these boots would be THE ONES! Have ordered and returned so many and tried on countless boots in stores to find ones that fit me and don't gap at the top. When I received I immediately noticed that the lining (which is cream colored) sticks out over the top of the boot and you can see it. Evidently, the person doing the sewing should have stitched it lower or turned the black leather on the outside of the boot down before stitching. These would have been the perfect boots for me if the cream lining didn't show at the top of the boots. I don't know if this is just a problem on this particular shoe or if all of them have this. Disappointed to say the least!

These boots are stylish and classic-looking, but for me, not as good a fit as I thought they'd be. I was (and still am) looking for a pair of boots I can invest in and wear all the time. I went for these because of their classic style and Frye's reputed quality. I ended up returning them because they were pretty tight all over, particularly in the toes and the calf. That made them hard to get on and off and less comfortable. I've heard that Frye boots stretch, but at this price I entirely willing to take a chance (especially because they were tight across the toes, and I wasn't sure if that part would stretch). The other reason I returned them was because I thought where the boot hit on my leg was unflattering (I am roughly pear/hourglass shaped), making my hips look extra wide and my calves look tiny in comparison. Side note: Trying these on with skinny jeans, the jeans barely fit in the boot shaft. They were better with tights and a dress. Overall, I still think these are some nice boots, good style and quality. But the imperfect fit and not totally flattering style (on me) meant I couldn't justify the high price.

These are very attractive and comfortable boots. The zipper in the back is a nice touch. I wear the boots all the time, super easy to walk in for hours! Unfortunately there are snaps at the heel and upper calf which when you cross your legs press into your leg and is uncomfortable. That is my only complaint actually!

I had to order a few different boots. The colors came in inconsistent and the boots were tighter than expected. But I finally ended up with a pair that feels and looks nice.

I got the wine colored boots and didn't really notice till I wore them outside but they look a little more like mauve than red. I was hoping for more of an antiqued red color. But since I already started wearing them, I've decided to keep them. They are comfortable and I like how they fit my calf as my calves are tiny (about 13.5), I wear skinnys and still have some room but not too much room. I love the snap detail. The leather isn't perfect quality but worth what I paid for them being Frye boots.

This boot truly is beautiful, but does suffer from a few issues. First, the insert inside is so unbelievably uncomfortable. There is a ridge where the heel meets the sole, and even wearing them for a few minutes in and around the house, both of my feet were nearly asleep from where this ridge dug into the bottom of my foot. I read a few reviews where the reviewer had the same problem, so be prepared that these may not be comfortable for you. Second, the calf circumference is definitely small -- while they zipped up for me (even over skinny jeans), the look wasn't what I was going for. It was hard to tell where my pants stopped and the boots started, and they ended up looking a bit like tight leather panels on my pants. The back zipper and buttons are absolutely adorable, so they get a 5 for style points. However, with the insert problems and the look not being quite right, I exchanged them for the Paige tall riding boots instead, which are amazingly comfortable, the heel is slightly lower, and the shaft is more substantial (actually distinguishing the boot from my pants).

While these are expensive, they definitely feel very high quality. I hope they last me for years!

Love the style and quality of the boot. I wear an 8 and the 8 fit true to size. However, I ordered the wine color and did not love it. The color was very faded looking and almost looked a mauve/soft reddish color instead of a deep rich color that I was hoping for. Nice boot, but wasn't the red I was hoping for.

I'm writing this review for my fellow petite girls on a mission to find the right pair of tall Frye boots. I ordered the Melissa Button Back Zip because they looked pretty slim in the pictures and video, but they swallowed my legs in person. They were too tall for me (I am 5'2" and they hit right at the knee so sitting was awkward) and much too wide in the calf. They were also very stiff and the calf part was pre-shaped looking, so the wideness aspect was pretty pronounced. I think maybe if they were worn in and relaxed a little they would have looked better, but they never would have fit great for my frame. I ended up exchanging for the Melissa Button, which worked much better. In any case, Zappos has fantastic customer service, so don't be afraid to try a few on your boot hunt!

My feet was moving to much in the shoes and I couldn't get it on with thicker socks. The leather is very soft and piled up around my lower leg. I think this boot looks much better in the picture than in reality

I wear a size 8 in most shoes (a 7.5 in some pumps), and these were at least half a size, if not a full size, too large. I was wearing some thin, not-quite dress socks. Perhaps if I planned to wear thick, wintery socks with them they would have fit a bit better, but I live in the South and that's just not necessary. My calves are about 12.5 - 13 inches wide, and the width of the boots was far too big. I could fit two fingers comfortably between my calves and the leather of the boot. My feet fit comfortably in the shoe, but since the boots were too large, I can't say that a correctly sized boot would not be snug on the sides or top of my feet. The sole of the boot was very comfortable, and the leather was beautiful. The height of the boot was a bit close to my knees, and I could see that possibly being annoying when seated, and I can also see how some people would have a problem with the top button coming updone because it rubs against the back of your knee when seated. Perhaps that wouldn't be a problem with people who are taller than 5 ft. 5 in. The bottom of the boot was a bit slick, but once in use I'm sure that goes away. The zipper closed easily, and the buttons snapped shut easily. It's a very pretty boot, and I'd love to re-order it, but I don't think a smaller size will affect the width of the calf at all.

This is a beautiful boot and made very well. The leather is slightly stiff but I am sure it would loosen with wear. The comfort was okay in the foot but not great. However, I ordered the DV by Dolce Vita (Lujan) at the same time for a lot less. I totally expected I would prefer the Frye boots. I was pleasantly surprised that the DV's were much more comfortable, also beautifully made and much cheaper. I ended up returning the Frye boots. For me it was about both comfort and price.

I love these boots. I got the black that is the solid non-weathered black - and they are beautiful. The zipper allows the fit to be a bit narrower through the ankle so they aren't as bulky through the ankle as many other boots I tried. Two things that prevent these from getting a 5 star. 1) The buttons come undone fairly easily when you cross/uncross your legs. 2) They have no sole treads and they are slippery as anything. I've nearly had several wipeouts on our tile halls at work (luckily thanks to cat-like reflexes I haven't fallen yet!). I'm a little surprised that for such well-made boots there was so little attention given to the sole - I'm tempted to bring them to a shoemaker and have a different sole put on with some treads or something. If you live anywhere with ice, be warned! But I do love them! They look great with jeans or skirts.

Fits true to size. Easy to get on since the zipper goes all the way to the heel and the bottom flap snaps over the base of the zipper. Low heel makes for a comfortable day of wear.
