It looked like a rain boot on. The leather was stiff and gapped at the top. Also, there was a weird lift in the inside heel area of the boot that felt uncomfortable -- like an arch support in the wrong place. I had high hopes, but these are not "it."

I am a runner with muscular calves, almost 15 inches. I bought a 7 1/2. It was really difficult to get the zippers up, and the boots were uncomfortably tight around the calves. (I think if you have bigger calves side zippers might be easier to pull up.) I thought about keeping them and hoping they stretched, but at this price I didn't want to take the risk. They also were a little slouchy around the ankles. I sent them back. Thank you Zappos for making returns so easy!

After reading every review, I was excited to order these Melissa Button Back Zips size 6. First ordered the cognac but it was very close to the whiskey color in the Melissa Harness boots I have, so exchanged for the grey, which is more of a greyish taupe. It's okay but a different, sort of muddy, off-color that wasn't particularly appealing. The leather was nice and soft, the size 6 felt comfortable (I wear 6.5 in shoe, narrow foot and slim calves), but as with some other petite reviewers, the shaft was quite big around. However, the real disappointment for me is in the style. Very plain in front with the only interest in the back from the zipper and button flaps; even my husband thought they were boring. I prefer a style that's interesting all the way around, like my Melissa Harness (whiskey) and Paige Studs (dark brown). Both those boots have beautiful eye-catching details, gorgeous colors, and the vintage vegetable tanned leathers just glow and are divinely soft. So the Button Back Zips go back again. I know the majority of reviewers rave about them and also the grey color, glad it worked for them, just didn't for me. Love Frye boots, though, and Zappos has been terrific!

These boots were so narrow that I could not get my foot all the way into the boot to zip them up. I have a wide foot, but own another pair of Frye boots (the billy shorts) in the same size and never had a problem. I also did not like the sole, which is nailed onto the boot and seems to not be as well made as other Frye boots.

These are super-cute boots that fit with a great shape through the whole shaft, but the top and heel snaps aren't very strong and if you cross your legs sitting (of course you do!), the top snap WILL come undone every time you uncross. What an annoying design flaw for such an expensive boot. Very cute and I'm keeping them because I didn't discover this until I'd already worn them out walking, but would otherwise have returned them because of this. They feel a little narrow in the toe box as well - though this will probably stretch out after a few more days of re-snapping them 100x a day.

I loved these boots out of the box but the zippers just don't go up when I put them on. They're impossible. I'm surprised Frye made a boot like this. I ordered them in black and brown. Neither pair zip up when on. They're both going back.

Why in the world would you put a zipper all the way on the back at the bottom of the boot? It is incredibly difficult to get the zipper started back up and pretty impossible to get your foot in without the zipper all the way down. They are beautiful boots, but who has so much time to wrestle with their footwear?? Not me.

I could not get the boot on and I have perfectly normal sized feet! I don't know if it's the back zip or what but it's extremely small or maybe made wrong?? Too bad since it's a good looking boot.

I bought these right after Christmas and I was so excited when they came in BUT I don't think they are worth the amount of money that I paid for them. Although these boots do look really nice and are mostly good quality, they have a couple flaws that prevent me from wearing them as much as I'd like (I've only worn them maybe 3 times). First thing is that there is absolutely NO traction! It snows and rains a lot where I live, and like other riding boots I was thinking they would be good for the days I still want to look cute but practical. I wore them once when there was still snow on the ground and the floors tended to be wet of course. I was slipping/sliding all around in them and was so scared that I was going to fall! My fear came true as well when I was just walking and fell straight on my back! They are also very uncomfortable; I had to buy shoe inserts to have the hope of being comfortable. My days usually consist of walking around a lot (by the end of the day my fitbit usually shows at least 2 miles) and I can't afford to wear uncomfortable shows. One day after wearing them I came home, only to take my shoes off already knowing I'd find a huge blister and to my surprise there was also a bloody sock. For the price I paid for these, I am not happy with my experiences; I now usually only wear them for a couple hours to church, as long as it hasn't rained. I don't really recommend these. They get one star for looks.

I ordered both this one, and the extended calf option based on the great reviews.
Unfortunately, both zippers were near impossible to zip up (perhaps they loosen up over time?), and they looked way too much like wellies to be considered stylish at all. They bunched up around the ankles all strangely, and were just not flattering at all. My husband walked in while I was trying them on and immediately said, "Your new $300 boots are Wellies?!" Definitely not the look I was going for.

I recieved the Melissa Button back zip size 8 1/2 B in black antique polish; I have owned for over a year the same identical boot in cognac and the boot is fantastic! No consistency in sizing, very disappointed

I ordered two different colors in this boot style. One was the wrong style and both were the same color. Both pairs had been previously worn. Also they were not in the original boxes. No quality control. Maybe your new management style is not working for you.

Annoyed! For the amount of money I paid for the boots I wouldn't expect the zipper would break. To the product control please be aware that there's issues with your zippers and buttons as previously stated by other consumers. Would not recommend. Poorly structured.

Wow, I was not blown away by the quality of these boots and for the cost I should be! The zipper was so stiff that it kept getting stuck as I pulled it up and down. There was also a lump in the middle of the heel/arch area of the left boot that was painful! Lastly, these boots came in a plain box not a Frye box and the bottoms of the boots were clearly worn and scuffed. Probably from someone else who was debating of keeping them regardless of the painful heel/arch and cheap zipper. I have a narrow foot and small calves so at least they didn't look huge on me and they are really pretty boots, but for that much money they better be super comfy too!

I absolutely loved these boots when I purchased them. They fit perfectly in the foot and leg. I've only owned these boots for about a month and maybe worn them 6 times and the right zipper is pulling apart from the bottom up. I've been able to put it back together a few times but it keeps coming apart every time I wear it. I don't know if it is me, or if I have a defective boot? This is my first pair of Fryes and I am exchanging them today. I really hope I have a defective pair because they really are gorgeous, and for the price should hold up much better!

Very disappointed with my purchase. Boots arrived in a plain box and not a Frye box. Boots did not have any tissue or cardboard stuffing and the toe had scratches. I feel these boots were returned by another customer and now by me.

The zippers are impossible to get up. I put on thin, tight running ankle socks and could not get the zippers up. I tried Peds, too. The zippers were awful. I am returning them because I do not want to fight with the zipper every time that I put them on, and I do not want to lube it with a product for fear that the zippers still will not work and then I will be stuck with them.
