Love these boots! I already had them in the grey color and decided I had to have the black too. I tried the Melissa pull-on boots, but like the Button Back zip better. Easier on/off and to tuck in jeans and leggings. Leather has nice texture and sheen. Shaft is comfortable and good size for jeans. And of course, with Zappos amazing service - you can't go wrong!

I love these boots! They did not need any time for breaking in. I have muscular calves and they fit perfectly. I love the zip back style as opposed to the Melissa Frye that you have to pull on. My only issue is that they leave an oil residue around the ankles. If it does not go away, I will return them for another pair.

I love these boots! All reviews are right on. I purchased the gray and they are more brown, go with everything! The first wear the arch did feel a little weird and I was worried they would hurt, but all wears since they are perfect! I've been looking for this perfect boot for a few years, worth the wait and price!

These boots are absolutely gorgeous and very comfortable. I have worn them two days in a row now and I have not experienced any discomfort of a brand new boot. I ordered the dark brown in vintage leather, and it is a gorgeous color. The vintage leather I think tends to wear better than the antique, and after they are a bit worn in, they will look even more amazing. I typically take a 1/2 size down in Frye, but with this boot I felt the 1/2 size down was a bit too snug, so ordered my usual 9.5 size, and they fit fine. I will have to wear a bit of a thicker sock, but I think that is fine considering the winter. Also, the larger size gives me some room to zip up from the heel, whereas on the smaller size, it was a struggle to get the zipper up. As always, Zappos was excellent in their service and customer support. Very beautiful boot that will last forever. Highly recommend.

Love these boots - quality leather, they break in easily and fit well. My foot is on the wider side and I had no issues with this boot. Fit around the calf is snug (but my calves aren't tiny) and the boots break in and stretch to accommodate. I love these boots!

So much money for a pair of boots! Am I crazy? No, I absolutely love these boots. I purchased the grey antique, which appears more brown to me than grey, a very nice color which goes nicely with both light and dark jeans. As others have commented, this boot is not for those with big calves. I would consider my calves a tad smaller than average and I can barely close the zipper with skinny jeans on. The zipper closure makes on/off very easy. The snaps do have a tendency to open, but it's not enough of a big deal to make me return them. They are very comfortable. I love them!

I bought these riding boots as a present for my wife. The Cognac color is less orange than it shows in the picture. She says the fit great with skinny jeans.

Very comfortable boots, very stylish. I was looking for flat-heeled boots which still look professional, and these fit the bill. They zip all the way down to the sole, so you can easily put your feet in, and they fit closely to the calf, so you don't feel like you're slopping around. I have had two bunion surgeries, which makes shoe buying an adventure, to say the least. Half the time, the shoes are uncomfortable right away or within a short time. These are great, long or short time. Since they're all leather, they breathe and I'm sure with time, they'll be even more comfy. Outstanding!

I absolutely love these boots! I found them to be true to size, comfortable and of fabulous quality. They were my first pair of Frye boots and won't be my last.

Before I explain my Frye "journey," let me say that I love these boots and wear them all the time! I got the antique fawn and they go with everything. Now, I was so nervous to keep these in my normal shoe size. And I thought the calf was too tight, and I don't even have super-athletic calves. I even ordered a half size bigger and the non-zip version just to compare. But I ended up keeping them. Yes, it takes a while to break these in. But it happens! I have worn thick socks, wrapped my pinkie toes in band aids just in case, and made it work. And they are transforming into a perfect fit. Don't be nervous about the size and calf if you can zip them up. Oh, and it took me a while to figure out that you can unsnap the bottom button and zip them even further down. Makes it much easier to get your foot inside! Bottom line, these are beautiful boots. Get them!

Very stylish, excellent soft but sturdy leather. They don't slouch! They fit close to your calf. I've loved them.

A lovely, well-made boot that is comfortable from the first time you wear it. Look great with skinny jeans, leggings and tights with a skirt. I have Melissa Button with and without the zipper. I love both, but the zipper ones are easier to get on and off by a small margin. I have antique black and it is a gorgeous shade on the boot. I know these are a splurge for many (and I myself don't routinely spend this much on footwear), but they are worth it. I feel they will last forever. And the more broken in they get, the better they look.

This boot is fantastic! Right out of the box it felt so comfortable and looks great with so many outfits! The leather is amazing and I can't wait to wear them tomorrow!

Bought these boots a couple of years ago, and like a fine wine, they get even better with age. I bought the gray antique soft full grain, which is actually a neutral shade between gray and brown. Actually seems to go better with everything in my closet than a more traditional brown. Now they look even more "vintage" and broken in, which I love. Totally agree with the reviewer who said these seem more like a riding boot and less like a cowboy boot. As much as I love the back zip, my only complaint about the boot is that it sometimes scratches against the back of my ankle. So I just usually wear long trouser socks or pull my leggings down over my heel, and the problem is solved. Love these boots! Hope to be wearing them 20 years from now!

These are beautiful. I found the zipper on the back to be easy to use. Clean and classic. Size is right on track.

Finally a frye boot that fits my extremely thin calves. This is boot is everything I was looking for: timeless, classic equestrian, with a slight rock-chic edge. I got them in the Soft Vintage Black leather and boy am I happy I did. I am almost always a size 8 and these run true to size - fit perfectly with a thin sock. If you want to wear with thicker socks I would probably go up a 1/2 size. I am planning on getting these in the shinny Cognac color... These boots are simply GORGEOUS!

Gorgeous leather, beautifully constructed and true to size. I have always been happy with Frye, and I know that these lovelies will join my collection for years to come. Thank goodness for the zip, otherwise they would be very hard to put on.

I loved this boot but it was huge on my legs. I have 13" calves and these were too big, I looked like I was playing dress-up. Would have loved to keep them but I must return, on to the next boot.

I have had these boots for about three weeks now and I love them as much now as I did when I first tried them on out of the box. I was looking for a tall shafted, flat heeled boot with not a lot of "stuff" like buckles, etc. The Melissa Button Back Zip fit the bill. I have two other pairs of Frye boots and they are comfortable out of the box, as are these. They are beautifully made, true to size and the shaft is not too tall for my short 5'0" frame. They also fit over skinny jeans. I get compliments on them all the time and absolutely love wearing them. You can dress them up with a skirt or dress or wear them as everyday with jeans. The only downside to them is that after a few hours wearing them and running around with my kids, is that my feet seem to want to breathe a bit. They do not hurt, though. This is pretty much true with all boots, I think.

These boots are really spectacular. I have tried a number of boots but they all are huge on my tiny calfs. These are not form fitting but they look great with skirts or with jeans tucked in. I usually wear a 7, and rarely a 7½ but I got these in a 6½ and they are perfect. As always, great service from Zappos.

Great boots! This is my first pair of Fryes, and for sure will not be the last. Well-assembled, pure leather, absolutely fantastic. I'm a size 8.5, and I ordered 9, which fits perfectly.

I love these boots, they are absolutely gorgeous! Because of free shipping (thank you Zappos) I always order two different sizes; however, this time I ordered two different colors as well! So, you wonder "what is my problem?" I want to keep both pair! The antique black is a beautiful shade of black, somewhat weathered. I followed the advice of other reviews and ordered the antique gray because of the claim that they are "more brown in color." And that is true, they are in fact more of a weathered brown. If you look close you will see slight slashes of a grayish-black coloring, therefore they will be more versatile and wearable with black clothing. Sizing: most reviews say they run half size larger. I would disagree with that, I am a size nine but he 9-1/2 fit better. Also, what I wanted in a boot these deliver. They are very simplistic in design. Not lots of hardware and the "cowboy" appearance is nil. A true riding boot, I am not into the cowboy look. Also, what I appreciate is the back zipper, I tend to have a problem getting the heel of my foot past a certain point, and the zipper allows for easy slide on. But I also love the bottom snap. It is a working snap and gives that extra space for ease of slipping my foot in. Shaft: I feel as if my calves are of medium size, yet I do not believe this boot will accommodate straight jeans to be tucked in. I think that only jeggings will work with this shaft. So unless you have super skinny calves, tucking in jeans will give that bulky bunched up appearance. The quality is wonderful; however, I have never owned a pair of Frye before and I can not compare to past quality. So my husband does not have a "cow" I will have to return one pair, the problem is, which one?
