Awesome boot! Quality, rich leather, surprisingly comfortable. I am usually 9.5 and ordered a 9 -- fits totally fine with room. Now I want to get them in brown and a friend wants to get them too. You won't be disappointed. Worth every penny.

Fantastic boots. A closet staple. Will never go out of style. Comfy. Soft leather. It's worth the money because you will have them for years to come.

This is my 4th pair of Frye boots and by far my favorite! I much prefer them to my Melissa Buttons that I have in cognac. The toe box on the Back Zip seem to be less narrow than the Button and are much easier to get on/off. The zipper in back is also fun compared to the traditional side zip. There is a snap button at the top of the zipper and the heel as well. These are a bit dressier than the Button because the top of the boot is level rather than "dipping" where the side pulls are located. I have these in the Black Soft Vintage which is a gorgeous solid black and smooth leather with a bit of luster. They work well with skinnies and sweater dresses. I'll definitely be getting another pair! Do not hesitate in buying these. And of course, I had them on my doorstep 24 hours after ordering.

Being from Florida, I've pretty much never owned a real pair of boots. Plus, I'm cheap. That said, I've been hankering for a pair of boots and finally pulled the plug on these babies! I typically wear an 8.5, which I ordered. They fit perfectly; no problems getting them on, slightly tight in the calves. But now they've stretched and while they're not *too* loose, I'm irritated that I didn't at least order 1 smaller pair and return the other. DRATS! Live and learn. So yes, these boots will totally stretch a bit, in the ankle and the calf. They are lovely and soft and now I want their other styles.

These are simply the best! I love these boots. They are easy to get on and off. They run true to size. The problem I had with many riding boots was that the calf circumference was too big. I wanted to look sleek with the calf being narrow but comfortable. I initially tried Melissa Button and loved them but had a hard time getting them off. So that is when I ordered these with zippers in the back. They are pricey but you get what you pay for. Black antique soft is so classic. I am so happy with this purchase.

After purchasing and returning 10 pairs of boots, trying on another 30 these are the ones! I generally wear a 8 or 8W, (the older I get the wider my feet?) I ordered the 8½ and it fits beautifully. I have enough room to wear thin socks or boot socks. They have plenty of room in the toe area. My heel does not slip. The only thing (debatable) I can say is the instep is positioned toward the back of my foot - maybe because I ordered the 8½, rather than the 8. I wore these boots for several hours the first day and they were wonderful. The boots are softer buttery leather. I suggest when zipping them to flex your feet until the zipper/leather is broken in.

I am in love with my Melissa Back Zip Riding boots! After trying on a multitude of riding boots, including the Frye Paige and Frye Melissa Button without the zipper, I finally found true boot love! I have quite skinny calves so most other riding boot option do not look right on me because the calf part or shaft of the boots are too large. Another problem I was having with other styles was that they were too hard to slide on because I have high arched feet. These problems were solved by the zipper back! Initially, I just picked these for the function of the zipper but it is actually the cutest part about the boot! The button closures at the top and bottom just add to their adorable style. They are very comfortable, I wear them teaching all day, and I don't even bother taking them off when I get home! The leather is such high quality and any scuffs are easy rubbed out with the Frye leather conditioner. I went with the cognac color and couldn't be happier with the color. It goes well with black or brown; super versatile color! I am a very satisfied customer!

I ordered these in Dark Brown Vintage and they came early (rock on Zappos!). Right out of the box, I saw that these classic boots were beautiful and well made. I have average legs and calves and the boots fit very well with skinny jeans. They are also breaking in nicely after a few wears (soles were very slick the first time I wore them- make sure you scuff the bottoms a bit to give them some traction!) I have worn these boots with jeans, skirts and dresses- casual and dressy alike- and received compliments all around. You won't be sorry you ordered them!

The Melissa Button Back has all the great features that Frye is noted for in a boot. The leather is soft and pliable but holds up to everyday wear. I ordered the antique black for my daughter and the regular black for myself. The not-too-high heel is very comfortable even for all day shopping in the city. No problems with the back zipper at all. Looks great on an average to slender calf. Melissa Button Back runs true to size unlike the Frye Carson which seems to be a full size larger because of the more pointed toe box. Zappos is a constant with excellence in service!

Love these boots! I eyed them on Zappos for weeks before finally ordering them, knowing it would be an easy return. After slipping into them for the first time I knew they weren't going anywhere! As a runner I have wider calves, so despite being petite I was concerned they would fit. But I was happy that with a wear or two they stretched enough for a perfect fit.

Love, love, love the Melissa Button Back Zip! I've received so many compliments on these boots. The Melissa button back zip has a little more character/pizzazz than the Melissa Button. I ordered my normal size; although typically I have to order a half size up in boots because I have wide feet and calves. When I first tried them on they were a little hard to zip because of my wider calves. However after a few tries, and a few wears, they loosened up and now fit wonderfully. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase.

Love, love, love this boot. High quality and beautiful. This is the third boot that I tried in the riding style and finally got a keeper. I got the black vintage and it is to die for. As other reviewers have said, comfortable right out the box. Thanks Zappos for next day delivery! I am happy.

Love these boots. I gave the Comfort a rating of 4 stars because I had to have them stretched a bit at the shoe shop. They're much better - realizing of course that leather doesn't stretch, it just gives. I've work the heck out and love them. With skinny jeans, skirts, leggings. It's a great quality leather too.

These are expensive, but worth it! This is my second pair of Fryes, and like the first, they are extremely well made. I appreciate stylish low heeled boots made with gorgeous leather. The boots do not fit tightly around my calves, which are freakishly skinny, but the design has some curve to it, so I do not have the dreaded rain boot look. I got both the size 9 and 9½ (thanks, Zappos, for that free shipping!), and the 9½ fit great - enough room for medium socks.

I was looking for a pair of great looking riding boots for a while, but most either looked over the top, too many buckles, or just plain cheap looking leather...until I found those! I was a bit worried about spending that amount without seeing them first, but with Zappos free shipping and returns it's easier to make the jump! (By the way I got them 2 days after placing my order, wow!) About the boots: they are everything I was looking for! So beautiful in person, I got them in the Dark Brown Vintage leather and the color online is very close to reality. I'm usually a size 7 and a 7 fits perfectly. I measured my calf before ordering (14.5"), so I chose the regular size (not extended). At first the boots were quite hard to zip up over some skinny jeans, but after wearing them around the house for only 25 minutes, they already started to stretch and were not as challenging to put on anymore! I'm 5.3" and they hit about 1/2" or so below my knees, so they are comfortable even when sitting down. I didn't find any quality problem with the leather itself or the zipper as other reviews mentioned, maybe I just got lucky. The bottom is made of very slick leather (I think it's leather sole, very dark and shiny), so I will have to put some kind of sole protection to add some grip. Overall I'm so happy I spend that amount of money, they look so beautiful that I'm afraid to wear them outside and get them scratched!

Love these boots! I tried on the Melissa button but the Melissa zipper is by far a sleeker looking boot. The Melissa button is a sharp looking boot as well but I have a similar looking boot in another color and was looking for something different. The Melissa zipper is slimming through the leg and extremely comfortable. I tried on both an 8 and 8.5. The 8's ended up working perfectly for me which tends to be my true size. The footbed is narrow but will break in. I always thought I had a larger, athletic calve but had no problem fitting in to these boots with a light sock and leggings or skinny jeans. These boots are expensive but I think worth every penny. My feeling and hope is that I will have these for years to come. They are timeless and the leather is of high quality and seem durable. Thank you, once again to Zappos! The customer service and delivery process is superb. I've been a Zappos customer for a long time and will continue to use them as my number one stop for shoes and outerwear.

I originally got a 9.5 in these boots & had to send them back for a 10. The right foot is still a little snug- not tight- at the widest part of my foot (where my toe bones begin), but the left is perfect so, my feet are imbalanced. The calf portion is amazing because it actually fits over my 15" calves. I will say though- the 9.5 had difficulty zipping up over my calves so I think the calf portion also increases with the size of the boot- at least a little. They are more of a brownish gray than a true gray, but it doesn't affect the versatility any. Overall I love them and am looking forward to many years of wear.

I have had these boots for about a year and they still fit and look great. The grey is a taupe grey and goes with everything. I usually wear an 8 and that is what I have. They fit fine. These are highly recommend.

These boots are perfect! The leather (inside and out) is beautiful and top quality. The zippers and snaps are also top quality. I've worn them with jeans, cords, skirts, and leggings. The footbed is so comfortable...no "break in" period needed. Oh, and they look really cool too! I wish I could have them in every color.

These are beautiful boots, but I would size up at least half a size. I ordered my usual size 7 (this is my third pair of Fryes, my other two pairs are also size 7),and when I first put them on, I was surprised by how snug/tight they were. Based on the reviews and my other Frye boots, I thought they may give a little, but after about three hours of wear I was in so much pain I had to go buy a pair of flats on my lunch break because they were super painful. These boots are extremely narrow, and I even have slim legs/calves. So, I highly recommend the boots, but they are definitely not for girls with thicker calves, and definitely size up at least half a size from your normal size in this brand. I am waiting for the 7½ to arrive but I may even have to go an 8 before I give up on this fit. Also, Zappos was absolutely amazing about exchanging the boots. Customer service at Zappos is always the best and that is why I shop here.

These are the most comfortable boots I have worn. They have a roomy toe but don't look clunky. Look great with skinny jeans or dresses.

Holy comfort Batman! Upon listening to the reviews of other Zappos shoppers I bought a pair of the black button black zips for my two week trip to France. We walked all day everyday for 14 days. Although I brought other shoes I wore the Melissa Boots everyday. The end result? No blisters, no chafing. My feet felt great the whole trip despite all the walking, stairs, rough terrain, etc. The bonus is that I looked so much like a sleek Parisian in them that I was constantly asked for directions! In French! I was extremely flattered. Even in the rain they held up and while my husband had wet feet my feet stayed warm and dry. Well worth the money spent and I know they will last me for many years to come.

I am very satisfied with the Frye Melissa Button Back Zip boots. They are exactly what I expected from all the reviews I read here. My main goal was to find a boot that's sturdy enough to not become slouchy at the ankles and these boots have complied 100%. As other customers mentioned, I have to say that the button on the calf tends to snap open from time to time, but that is really a very small detail that does not harm the great looking boot you get. I was a bit undecided about choosing between black or these dark brown ones. I am glad I went for the dark brown vintage, they will look great with any outfit.
