Gorgeous boots! I tried several Frye styles including the regular Melissa boots (too tight) and Paige riding boots (too slouchy) but these were by far the best fit. Much easier to get on your foot than regular Melissa. My favorite feature is the zipper back and makes wearing over skinny jeans much easier and also gives a clean sleek look. Excellent quality as expected from Frye. Can't wait to wear this fall and winter!

Gorgeous! These were exactly what I was looking for. I got the dark grey which is a unique and beautiful color. The leather is soft and they are so well made. So, on the downside, my insteps are very high and I can barely get the boots on my feet. Once they're on they're comfortable, but snug across my instep. I'm hoping they'll stretch out and give some in the instep. They are not snug, though, in the calf. My calves are pretty standard width - I'm a runner and in good shape, so my calves are neither skinny nor big. So many boots these days are really loose in the calf and these and not like that, but also not tight. It's easy to zip them and there's plenty of room to wear them with jeans.

These are the most beautiful things I have ever seen! I'm a size 8.5 almost always, so I ordered the 8.5 (despite reviews saying to size up or down). Perfect fit! Just perfect! And very, very comfortable. I have skinny calves (13") so I specifically was looking for a skinny boot and this is great. There is some space, just enough to tuck in some skinny jeans and they look great with a skirt - but my legs don't look like they are swimming like they do in a lot of boots. I got the Dark Brown Vintage, and they are absolutely gorgeous. I also got some of the Frye Conditioning Cream along with and put it on first thing. This didn't change the color and they look (and smell) awesome. The soles are a little slippery, so I considered getting some traction put on at the cobbler, but after walking around in them on the cement for a few minutes it was enough to take care of that. Love these! And with Zappos' fast shipping I had them in my hands the next day. They are made in Mexico, which I believe is a change from Frye's of the past. I was a little worried about this but after seeing them have no regrets. I have never spent this much on a pair of boots or shoes, but I'm happy I got them and I love them.

Just received these boots. Very high quality leather. Very comfortable right out of the box. Calf circumference at 15 inches for size 11 fit perfectly over socks or skinny jeans. These fit true to my size 11 (sigh) feet, I felt. There is a little up and down slippage in the heel, but they must have a heel cup or something in there because they are overall extremely comfortable. The size 10 was too small. I tried these and the Paige Tall Riding Boots. I chose these because they have a slimmer, more dress boot look to them. The Paige Boots were equally comfortable, felt a bit larger in size (though I'm not sure an entire half a size), and also the Paige Boots are a little more "cowboy boot" like, being a little larger on the top with more space for your calves and larger in the ankle area. I only chose these for the look, no difference in extreme comfort. I also learned from buying cowboy boots in Texas that there is supposed to be a little slippage up and down in the heel area to have the "right" fit. I do find, at least with cowboy boots, that that is true for making them overall more comfortable. Maybe that is why the Paige Boots seem to be slightly larger for stated size. Grateful to Zappos for their awesome free shipping and easy returns so that I could pick just the right boots for me.

I've tried on Fryes before and always felt the shaft was always too tight on my calves. This pair was the first I put on and immediately gasped "I love them!" The fit was perfect. The leather is soft and supple and well oiled. The zip worked perfect and the foot fit well with room for a thicker sock. An excellent investment I'm sure I will wear for years to come.

Love these boots! Took them to Europe on vacation right away and they needed no breaking in at all. Super comfortable, very fabulous, got a lot if compliments. These boots go with everything so definitely worth the price.

I orderd my usual size 6.5. It fit perfectly and had just enough room to tuck in jeans or tights. I felt the comfort right away and there is no breaking in period as most reviews said. The zipper was smooth and the Cognac color is a GOREGOUS brown; less orange tone than the on line picture. After some leather cream, the color is even richer. Although, there were some marks on the leather, etc, it's fine with me since it gives the boots some character. I'm ready for Fall. As always, Zappos delivered the boots to me the very next day. Zappos ROCKS!

I spent an enormous amount of time researching riding boots. I was looking for classic style that would last at least a decade or more, comfort, and quality of leather and construction. I found all this with the Frye's. I have narrow feet and narrow calves and feel like the shaft on this boot is slim enough to look clean with tights and a dress as well as accommodate skinny jeans. I did order a half a size down. They are expensive, but I do believe that good shoes are an investment and should last a lifetime if cared for properly. I believe that is the case with these boots. I did take them to the cobbler and have rubber soles put on them right after I bought them. It cost 20 bucks and prevented me from having soggy soles in the rain and from slipping.

These were great right out of the box! They didn't take long to break in, and they weren't too tight to begin with. The soles are very slippery at first but some scuffing on pavement fixed that. I wore these on a trip to London, walking around in the cold rain and they were absolutely perfect, stylish enough yet warm, dry, and comfortable. They are perfect for tights and skinny jeans. My calves are on the average size and fit perfectly, although I wouldn't recommend if your calves are on the large side. I even got compliments on them from my european friends, which means a lot! These are my second pair of Frye boots, and I'm absolutely in love.

These are my new favorite boots! Fit was fantastic right out of the box (size 9) and they feel like butter. I have thicker calves so was worried about the fit but they zipped right up! Can't wait until I get my next pair of Frye's, love them!

Love them! They fit comfortably from the first wear. The color isn't as red as it is in the picture. The color is a great neutral for almost anything. I also love the zipper for easy on and off, and the shaft if perfect for smaller calves.

I am 5' 2" with semi-muscular calves. I found these tight on the calves, but not so much that I don't think they will stretch enough for my skinny jeans. Also, I wear a size 6 1/2 or 7 and I ordered the 6 1/2 which were much too large. I have about 3/4 inch to one full inch in the toe box. Returning these for a size 6. Other than the large size, they are beautiful boots that are simple and classy.

I am delighted with these boots. Very comfortable and true to size. The zipper makes them easy to take off at the end of the day. The simple shape is sophisticated with just the right touch of button detail. The antique soft leather feels good for indoor and outdoor wearing. Love these boots!

These boots are exquisite! Just like most Frye boots they run a little large. So while I sometimes wear an 11 or 10.5 if lucky, the 10s actually fit me perfectly! I love the color and the leather is just like it looks in the photo. Because of the zipper they are very easy to get on and off. I have never had a pair of boots with zippers, but I am really liking them. Also the sole of the boot is a little thicker than most Frye's which is good. I find sometimes the leather soles are just too thin and do not provide much protection from moisture on the road, floor, etc. They are a little bulky to wear under jeans as they go right to the bottom of the chin. Sometimes the action of your jeans can cause the top snap to come undone. This does not happen when you wear them with a dress at all. The toe box is nice a roomy and I can wear these at work when I am on my feet all day. Love them! And of course Zappos is the best!

I love these boots, wish I could get one in every color. They fit true to size, although they do require a breaking in period at first. Once broken in, though, they'll last forever.

Love these boots! They were really tight on the calf at first, even hard to zip. I almost returned them but decided to perservere through wearing them around the house. They are still snug but not uncomfortable and much easier to zip. I get a ton of compliments on them and the more I wear them the more I like them.

Enjoying the boots. :) I have rather wide calves and small feet, so difficult to find a pair that will fit me. Took a week or two to break them in, but they fit wonderfully now. Size: 6.

Bought these for my girlfriend as a combined Christmas and Birthday present, and it was worth it. She was speechless and I had to almost tackle her to keep her from wearing them outside the day she got them (it was raining and we hadn't treated them yet). She was a little hesitant about the color at first, but the more she's worn them the more she likes it. She gets a lot of compliments on the color since it isn't a common one. She loves the back zip (not sure if it's for fashion or function, whatever) and says they're her most comfortable pair of boots. Whether she's saying that because she knows they're expensive or because they really are I'll never know.

These boots are so beautiful and comfortable! I'm either a 7.5 or 8, I bought these in an 8, and they're prefect for wearing with socks, even thick socks when it's cold. And the shipping was so fast! Thank you Zappos!

Great boots. Waited 2 years to purchase since they are a bit spendy. Worth it. Narrower circumference great for skinny legs!

These are my first Frye boots and so far they seem worth the money. The leather is good quality, soft and subtle. They are very comfortable and practical to wear. I thought they maybe a tight fit over my calves but they slide on with ease and are a nice shape on the leg. And the style looks good whether worn with jeans or skirts. If you seek winter boots crafted of good quality leather, that are practical to wear, easy to style, are comfortable and will last for seasons then the Frye Melissa Button Back Zip are a safe bet.

Love these boots! They came out of the box very tight and I was tempted to send them back; however, I listened to the reviews and let them stretch. After wearing them twice they felt great! I can wear them all day. My only issue with them is the lower button tends to come unsnapped on one boot. Kind of annoying but they boots are well worth it! I would highly recommend.

I love them! Ordered the boots in Wine. Thought I would take a chance on a color other then black or brown, and was glad I did. They do not disappoint! These boots are beautiful and comfortable right out of the box. No breaking in period. I ordered a 9.5 (my normal size) and they fit perfect. The classic good looks along with excellent construction means I will get many wears out of these gorgeous boots for years to come. Ordering from Zappos is a no brainer.
