I am in love! I have been eyeing a pair of Frye's boots for a couple of years and finally took the plunge and splurged. And I will never be the same ever again. Size: I usually wear a 8.5 or 9 in regular shoes, and I ordered 8.5. It fits well, with enough room in the toe box to wiggle my toes. Calves: My calves aren't excessively large. Runners' calves, I guess it what I would describe them as. Circumferences around both calves are 14.5 and 15. They fit well into these boots. The first time I put on these boots, I kinda have to zip it up slowly (so I won't catch my skin), but after a week's worth of wearing, they fit great around the calves. Not too tight. but just right (you can put a finger into the boot). I bought the black vintage smooth. And it is pretty. Not too shiny/glossy. Just a nice, classy smooth black leather. I have worn skinnies and leggings and dresses with these boots. It can go dressy or a little causal. Style: I was going back and forth the regular Melissa button and Paige, but settled on this back button style. The button and zip at the back add a nice touch. A classy understated functional adornment - not gaudy. Comfort: Yes. No breaking in time at all. For work this week, I have worn it 4 days out of 5 days. It is comfortable! I am itching to buy another one! I will go for a brown on my next splurge.

I was looking for a pair of good quality, classic boots. These fit the bill. One note is that these are a great choice if you have smaller calves - these aren't too wide like other boots on me.

I am so excited with the purchase. I am looking forward to fall to wear these more. So far, they look good with jeans and a casual black dress that I have in my closet. I am 5'4", 118 pounds, average size calfs for size. They fit great with a small gap at the top. They run true to size in the footbed with thick tights on.

The dark brown vintage boots are beautiful! I have approximately 13" calfs and these boots are the perfect circumference. For those with larger calves, I do not think that these would be the best boots. For anyone looking for quality riding boots, these are definitely worth the investment!

I really am glad I purchased these boots. I have been searching for a new pair of boots for some time and am glad I waited long enough to get these. I wanted a boot that had a more simple, streamlined look with a slight heel, and these for that number. Well constructed, high quality, with a discreet back zipper that accommodates bigger calves (I'm a runner).

SO STOKED!! I have been looking for black boots my entire life it feels like. I have bought pricey pairs, cheap and super expensive pairs...I always knew I wanted Fryes, but I just couldn't get past the price. Well, I finally bit the bullet and did it, and I am so happy I did! Out of the box they are beautiful and fit perfectly. I can't wait to see how they form to my feet, and best of all, will last forever. Gonna have to save up for some brown ones come Fall.

I absolutely love these boots. They are of great quality and fit my feet like a glove. I would recommend them to anyone.

I purchased these boots a couple of years ago and I still absolutely love them. They have stretched a bit with use and are so comfortable. I can walk all day in them. When I first got them I almost returned them because there is a little ridge the you can feel inside the foot bed. I did read other people mention this. I am glad I didn't return them because the ridge has flattened out and is no longer there. I have athletic calves and this boot is not tight, even with jeans tucked in. I am a true 7.5 and they are true to size.

Great looking boot! Simple in design but has great style with jeans and leggings. Love that it can be pulled on with the little straps inside the boot... but I always unzip the back for easier entry. The little button flaps in the back that protect the ends of the zipper add some interest. The boot is well made and should last for years. I wear a size 5 and am a short person at 5 ft. tall. Tried the youth size that would fit my foot as I can wear some children's shoes, but they were just too short. These come about an inch below my knee which provides a longer look. I wear them with a little thicker sock. Would purchase again in a heart beat even at the price. Try them!

If you are looking for a sleek, black riding boot, look no further. I had ordered several pairs of black boots and finally settled on these. They look great with tights and a skirt for work and equally fantastic with leggings and a sweater. Comfortable right out of the box and the leather is absolutely beautiful. I am 5'5" and they come up just below the knee. This style is fitted to the calf, but does loosen (just a little) with wear. I am normally a 9 and bought a nine so that I can wear thick socks or tights (or both) as needed. I am a Frye fan, this is my third pair. The quality is exceptional and this style is perfectly timeless.

Absolutely the best boots I've ever purchased. The fit is a little bit smaller than what you might normally wear, but the leather might also shape to your foot. I bought an 8, usually wear a 7 1/2, and it fits perfectly.

Love love love! These are the perfect, slim-fitting, sleek-looking dress boots I was looking for. The calf does not gap at the top (however, that may mean they will not work for someone with larger calves). And the back zipper adds just the right amount of interest/style.

It's a beautiful boot, and the leather is nice quality, but I'm just not graceful enough to wear it. There is absolutely 0 traction on the bottom -- great for the dance floor, not so great for icy streets or navigating slippery staircases with my arms full. I'm 5'2" and the shaft is a little high but not painful. I also seem to have the issue with narrow heels that rise up in the boot, so I don't know if that would have eventually given me blisters if I kept them.

Love these boots! They are so comfortable and so good looking. I very rarely wear a pair of shoes or boots every single day, but it's happening with these. The color of the leather is absolutely beautiful (I receive lots of compliments about it) and the zipper + buttons on the back are unique and add the perfect amount of flourish to these otherwise very simple boots. I love these Fryes! Definitely worth the investment. The only negative thing about these is that the bottom button seems to be always coming undone if I'm wearing thicker socks (I guess the strap doesn't reach the buckle as well if my foot is bigger because of them). It's kind of annoying, but I hope that once the cold weather leaves along with my thick socks, I will have this problem less. The top button also pops off if my legs rub against the chair I'm sitting it, but that's less common.

These boots are great, no breaking in period. Ordered them in dark brown too. Awesome boots!

Love the boot. I bought the Antique Black, wasn't sure I would like that finish but it's perfect. Very comfortable too. looks great with jeans and leggings.

This is a beautiful pair of boots, very comfortable right out of the box. They fit my very thin calves better than most, with only a little room left around jeans legs. I love the color, a soft greyish fawn. I only wish they had a non-slip sole, and I'll have to have one put on if I want to wear them in winter with snow and ice!

I ordered the dark brown brush-off in size 8.5. They run true-to-size for me. I wanted a durable, comfortable riding boot that is sleek enough to pair with patterned dresses. Haute couture brands are graceful and comfortable, but too dainty for everyday use. The Melissa button back-zip fits the bill: it has a lovely, rich, blackish-brown shade, it is sleek enough to pair with dresses, and it is durable and comfortable enough to wear for many blocks of walking. One reviewer said that "from the front, it looks boring," but the lack of adornment is a perfect complement for patterned dresses. The rich shade and quality leather make enough of a statement, without adding buckles and straps. I am 5'8 and 140 lbs, with long legs as my best feature. The height of the boot is perfect - shows some bare leg, doesn't cover all the way up to the hemline of knee-length dresses. My calves fit these boots like a glove, with a little room left for leggings or tights (but no room for skinny jeans). As for comfort, I always put a gel insert into Fryes for extra cushioning - then I can wear them all day! I read the negative reviews about faulty zippers and buttons, but at first glance, I do not notice any defects in construction. This classic boot looks like it will last a lifetime. Hope this helps! I love these boots. The quality is superb. They are expensive, but worth it. The tops are not to big or too tight. They look great with jeans, a skirt or a sweater dress with or without tights. True to size. The back zip and button snaps make them extra stylish.

This is my fifth pair of Frye boots, and I love them just as much as my others. I normally wear a size 10, but as usual for Fryes, I sized down to a 9.5. The black soft vintage leather is really classy, and can easily be dressed up or down. The chunky zipper on the back looks great, too. One important note is that the calf is narrow. My calves are pretty average, I think, and they just barely fit in the Melissa when I'm wearing skinny jeans (although I imagine they will loosen with continued wear).

I absolutely love these Frye boots! I have a very hard time finding boots that don't "swim" around my calves and these do not! I wear them with skinny jeans, leggings, and dresses and they look great with everything. The shaft comes about 2" below my knee and I have some extra room around my 12.5" calves but it's not excessive. I ordered the soft vintage leather in black which has a sheen that gives it a dressy look. At first I was afraid the arches would be uncomfortable for me because they seem high which I don't need but it hasn't caused me any discomfort. I normally wear a 7.5 in a shoe and 7.5 fits perfect in these. The footbed is wide enough that it doesn't hurt my bunion on my one foot yet my other foot feels comfortable as well. I just love these boots!

These were beautiful, well crafted boots that I was sad to return. At 5'4" they hit me just below the knee and were too large for my narrow calves and ankles.
