I went through a lot of reviews trying to choose a pair of hiking shoes. I'm an unathletic and amateur hiker who went to Patagonia for a few days. I wore these in pouring rain in Buenos Aires and through streams in Chile. I can say they are completely waterproof! They are very comfortable if you wear thick hiking socks. I ordered a size up so the toe box was comfortable with the thick socks. They're not heavy so I wore them walking around all day too. I definitely recommend these shoes!

Love these shoes. Bought them to walk my dog in wet NW weather. Be sure to double knot the laces as they thick and come untied otherwise.

After looking at lots, I decided to go with these. I likes the waterproofing, and the grips on the bottom looked like they would have good traction. After wearing them for a few weeks I'm very happy with them. They have been very comfy right from the start, no breaking in. The shoes have held up well in puddles, river beds, and wet leaves and grass, staying totally dry inside. Foot movement is easy, and there is a good amount of room for toes, I like some wiggle room. The shoes seem to have good support throughout even with feeling slightly softer around the body. My ankles tend to roll easily, and there have been a few instances that I felt as thought I maybe should have, but I seemed to have better stability. My only complaint with these is they are slippery on wet rocks. They hold up okay on other wet surface, but wet rocks have been a little tricky. This complaint aside, I would still purchase these again.

My Physical Therapist is helping me with an Achilles Heel injury and he suggested I look at Merrells for the hiking and walking I do with my dogs. I love this shoe! Excellent support for the heel and arch without sacrificing style. Great for Fall, winter and spring. Sturdy and nice color. My husband took one look at them and we ordered the mid Moab ones for men for him. He's a civil engineer and outside on sites all day all year. These are waterproof and look nice for everyday wear. And I love Zappos! You guys are awesome.

I bought these shoes and wore them on a hike the next day. They were perfectly comfortable and seemed waterproof on the muddy parts of the trail. I removed the footbed and put my orthotic inside and it fit. I am extremely happy with this purchase.

Love my shoes. I took them to Colorado with me and there was no break-in time at all, and I did a lot of hiking. I did buy 1/2 size larger and was glad I did. These hiking shoes are awesome.

These are my go-to hiking shoes, and I have worn out at least 4-5 pair of them! I hike on dirt trails in hills, about 1,200 miles/year. These shoes are super comfortable even with the Merrell insoles. Since I put so many miles on, I find that the Superfeet inserts really make a difference. It is an easy swap to put in new insoles, as the insoles are removable - hooray! The soles are just the right stiffness and traction on the trail is good. I have slipped once or twice on a wet sidewalk, so I'm not sure the shoe rates high for gripping wet, semi-smooth surfaces, but what shoes do? The waterproofing works pretty well, but in a downpour, or in the case of deep puddles (water going over the top of the shoe), my feet have gotten wet. You really cannot go wrong with these hiking shoes! I love them!I do order up a 1/2 size (usually I'm 8 1/2, I order a 9).

Awesome hiking shoes! Exactly what I was looking for: waterproof, sturdy, comfortable. Amazingly comfortable from the first try on (and through the 1st hike - didn't break them in and hiked 9 miles - no blisters). I'm buying my husband the men's version of the same shoe.

Love it! This is a great looking shoe and was very comfortable right out of the box. As is noted in previous reviews, it does run small so my advice would be to order a half size larger than you normally would.

It is a second pair of the same shoes I've bought; firs one expired after 9 years of use(it was used for hiking only, not for every day use). Very comfortable and durable, designed to last.

I bought these a couple of weeks before we went to Iceland. We were going to be doing a lot of hiking and I wanted sturdy, waterproof shoes that were also comfy. These were the perfect pair. I intended to break them in before we left but didn't have a chance. No problem! They were comfortable from the first wearing and never bothered my feet. I would recommend these to anyone looking for a good hiking shoe.

These shoes are comfortable right out of the box. I wear them for dog walking and light hiking, these are perfect. So far they are waterproof enough to keep my socks dry in damp weather, I haven't been out in heavy rain. The fit is standard Merrell, I have trouble finding 10 1/2, I sometimes end up with an 11 or a Wide, but these 10 1/2 Merrells are just right.

These shoes feel wonderful! I bought them for moderate hiking and walking on trips, not extreme hiking. Following advice of other reviewers I ordered 1/2 size up and they fit perfectly. I expect to enjoy these Merrells for a long time.

These shoes are very comfortable right out of the box. I walk 5 miles a day (rain or shine) on a variety of surfaces. Woodland trails to sidewalks. These are very comfortable on both. I don't know about whether they are waterproof but will find out soon enough because I live in SE Alaska which also happens to be a rain forest. I have had Merrill's for many years and find myself always going back to then because they always fit my foot and use the best. These shoes are not as streamlined as other Merrill models but they do have the toe room I am looking for. I am very happy with these shoes, would purchase this same shoe again. I did not find that I had to purchase a different size than I normally wear.

I bought these shoes to wear when I went to Switzerland. They were very comfortable for walking and hiking. I love these shoes!

I bought these for a trip to Ecuador and am so glad I did. They survived the volcanic terrain of the Galapagos Islands and the rain and rivers of the Cloud Forest, no problem. The reviews were right--no break in period. Just 100% comfort and support. If only I could wear these in the office...

I purchased these shoes to replace a different pair of Merrell shoes. They live up to their designation as waterproof and are very comfortable once broken in. However, the arch support provided in the pair I purchased stop being effective in less than three weeks.

Very comfortable right out of the box. They are fairly lightweight and provide good support. I now use these shoes for long hikes as well as shorter walks, just because they feel good on my feet. My only complaint is that the shoe laces become untied easily. Double knotting helps.

Bought these shoes prior to a trip to Iceland. Purchased a 1/2 size up based on other reviews. They fit great and were very comfortable from the first day. They are a great hiking show, helping to cover a variety of landscape, and were definitely true to description as far as being waterproof. I would highly recommend them!

Terrific shoes right out of the box! The support and traction are excellent and they seemed to need no break-in period at all. I might recommend going up a half size if you do any hiking that requires heavy socks; mine are fine in my regular size with fairly lightweight socks but I'm concerned that if I switch to heavier ones they will be a bit tight. Overall a great shoe for the money!

Great support. Comfortable. Might be slightly short for walking. I still may try a half size larger, but will definitely stick with Moab!

Great shoes! Never had to break them in. Put them on and walked on uneven, hilly terrain with wet grasses for over an hour, and my feet were dry and happy! Ordered 1/2 larger, but returned for my regular size. Good height to toe box. Would definitely order again and highly recommend them.

I searched for good hiking sneakers that were waterproof and after one mistake with Keenes, which didn't fit my foot well, I happily found these. I love these shoes and feel like I can go as far as I need to, and anywhere, in them. I have a small bunion, which always presents a challenge. Hard to find a shoe narrow enough, but with enough room in the toe box for my bunion. No problem with these, they have been totally comfortable from the first minute. I'm told they are the Merrells with the widest toe box, so that makes sense. I read some complaints about the laces, but it you double know and pull tight they are great and built to last, just like this great shoe. This shoe is comfie and flattering, and actually look kind of cute on. But they are also sturdy and made for lots of use. So glad I found them. I am between 8.5 and 9 and 9 fits perfectly. Zappos customer service fantastic as always.

I was tired of walking the dog in the park and getting my feet soaked from the wet grass and ruining my running shoes from the dirt and rough paths. I was skeptical that a pair of waterproof hiking shoes would be A) comfortable, and B) actually waterproof. Wow, was I wrong! I ordered 4 pairs of waterproof hiking shoes and this pair was by FAR the most comfortable. It wasn't even really a competition, that's how much better this pair was. I did notice that when I walked they felt slightly small, so I ordered a half size up and they were perfect. The true test was taking my dog on a 1.5 hr walk in the park through meadows of wet grass, up rocky trails, and running on pavement. They were comfortable (needed NO breaking in period), I could run in them fine when needed, and they kept my feet dry! They are worth every penny, so glad I purchased these.

Best shoes I have ever worn, hands down. I worked outside in a garden center for the summer season and these shoes took the worst beating, but did a great job in support and holding up with abuse. The sole is incredible how it lasts. Yes, I soaked them many times - being drenched with water, but I did not buy them because of being waterproof. With what I do, nothing is water proof. But being on cement and waking several miles a day on the job, these shoes saved my feet. I ordered a 6.5 med and they fit great. No breaking in, went to work right out of the box. I truly have never been so impressed with a shoe quality as these. Merrell, thank you for producing a great line of shoes. I will be a loyal customer for life.
