These are cute shoes, but if you want to wear them without socks, order half a size down. I wasn't sure so I ordered two pairs a half size apart and returned the larger. Got a prompt refund from Zappos.

I have been looking for shoes that could multi-task on a two week trip to Japan. We will be doing a bit of light hiking in the mountains along with extensive city walking, but I'm only taking a small backpack and I don't want to bring the extra weight of my beloved Keen hiking shoes for only a couple days' worth of hiking. Enter Keen Toyah MJ! These fit almost exactly like my Keen hiking shoes, so I understand now the comments about the strange fit and why they have the wider footbed and extra toe length. They are fairly cute with skirts and dresses, but don't look out of place with leggings and hiking socks either. Most importantly, they are comfortable just like my hiking shoes. All that said, if I was purchasing these for everyday wear, I might have sent them back because they are a little long and make my size 8.5s look pretty big (my husband used the term "Bobo shoes"). The only other negative thing I have noticed, that I think a couple of other reviewers mentioned - after about 2 hours of wear, one of them started rubbing my outside ankle bone just a little bit. I simply put some plain $2 flat foam shoe inserts from the drugstore under the existing footbed to raise it a little bit and now they are fine.

I loved the comfort, loved the wider size, but I disliked the plastic exterior. I only wore them for a couple of minutes and just couldn't get over the fact that they remind me of a chunky water shoe, a cheap (but very comfortable) one at that. I really like the style, but again, the plastic exterior looked too cheap in appearance for the price. And that's my fault, I thought the exterior was leather, or something close, so I don't blame the Keen. I just wasn't familiar with their product. On the plus side, Zappos is incredible...love the professionalism of their service. I rarely shop anywhere else, their shipping is fast and free returns.

A bit darker than expected but I still love them! Also I couldn't believe that they were slightly big either. I've always struggled with my size 10 feet being too big for shoes not the other way around. But I will not be returning them, they look and feel great!

These have awesome arch support but the heel is too wide. It flopped off my foot with each step. The size was right and had I gone down a size they would have been too short. I wear an 8 (and that's what I ordered; usually Keen's run small, but not these) with an average width foot. I wish I could take the footbeds out of these and put them in the Sterling City mary jane. That would be awesome!

Great shoes! Cuter on your feet than they look in the photo. Bought specifically because of other reviews noting they were helpful for people with plantar fasciitis. I can confirm this is true. These are not quite as comfortable as my Naots, but more comfortable than anything I've tried outside of Naot. And, a lot cheaper than most Naots. This is a bit tougher than my Naots -- better for outdoor walking. Would totally buy in another color if it were available in my size. Does run a tad short and the heel is wide. I was able to compensate for the wide heel by tightening the strap.

A great shoe if you stand all day. Good arch support. My back and legs stopped hurting the first day after wearing them.

The Keen sizing system is a conundrum to me. A few years ago, I bought this in my proper size and it felt great. Then gradually, it stretched out until it felt like I was wearing rowboats on my feet. But I liked the look and the initial comfort. So I've ordered again, this time going down a half size. For now, it seems tight, but I'm hoping it stretches out.
I like Keens, and have bought other styles. Some have been perfect from the start. But in other cases I had to buy a half size larger and they still didn't feel big enough. So I'm a little confused, and now own some pairs of Keens shoes that I can't use anymore.

I am looking for a comfortable shoe that I can wear to teach in, commute on my bike, and walk around. I want a shoe that does everything and I thought these would be them! These shoes are pretty close to the style I was looking for but have just a couple problems. I have one 'problem' toe, and these accommodate it nicely, but even with socks I had too much heel lift while walking around. They're also a little too bulky. I think I'm going to go with Merrells instead.

In general, I love these shoes. They have fantastic arch support. Keens tend to run pretty wide, which works great for my feet. These shoes are not the most beautiful, but they are semi-sporty and cute. My only small complaint about them is that they are hot. I do not know why. This is my third pair of Keens and none of the others do this, but these shoes hold in all the body heat. They will be great this winter, but there is no way I could wear these once the temperature rises above 60°.

very functional comfortable shoe - not the prettiest shoe but wears well. I work in the emergency department and spend a great deal of time walking and running - these shoes are invaluable.

My husband always remarks on how few pairs of shoes I own. I invest in a few gorgeous work shoes, a few Dansko clogs and Keens (a pair of sandals and a pair of "walk to works"). These were my replacements for a very old pair of Keens that I don't even remember what they were called, but they were more like ballerina flats. I love these shoes so much, but I'm clearly between a size 9.5 and a 10. They feel a little heavy and clunky. I settled on the Sterling City MJ in a 10, it's much more "agile" feeling and doesn't have the grey sole - so it looks a little dressier. I really wanted to love this shoe, but settled on another, especially considering that I walk around a mile and a half round trip to work every day.

This is my third pair of Keens, and I think they're so cute. I picked them up on sale a few weeks ago and can't wait for the weather here to be cool enough to wear with socks. I haven't thought to wear them sockless, as I'll have them on with jeans mainly as my weekend shoe. Keen shoes are the most comfortable for me, with feet wide in the toe area and skinny heels, these are always great for a day of walking around, and so far these feel the same as my others. It's nice to have a pair of shoes that don't need breaking in to be comfortable.

I love Keen's but these are too stiff and tight for me. Sorry, as they look so nice.

Don't buy a size larger as is often recommended with Keens. I wear a size 9 in other brands and bought both a 9 and 9.5 (which is what I usually wear in Keens). Even the 9 felt a tad too large but not so large as to warrant a smaller size. These Keens actually do have better arch support than others I have bought in the past which was a definite plus. However, the heels were loose and gaped, in fact, the entire shoe just seemed...wide. I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing them with shorts or capris because of their width but they would be okay with jeans. They were very comfortable shoes and the bronze green shade I bought was very pretty. The toe box had plenty of room, as is common with Keens. I was torn on whether to keep them or not, but the gaping heels and overall wideness just made this cute shoe unflattering on me so I reluctantly returned both pair. If you have a narrow foot, I would definitely recommend against these, otherwise, they are a great Keen shoe. I am still a Keen-lover for life!

I love the look of these shoes, plus the fact that the insoles are removable so that I can use my orthotics. But I have a somewhat narrow foot and this shoe is better suited to someone with wide feet. The heel especially is a bit loose on me.

I now have two pair of these, three Keens total, and am so in love with the brand. I have never worn a more comfortable shoe. The Toyah did feel every so slightly wider than marked, but it's still extremely comfortable to wear. They also felt a bit larger than marked.
Both issues are small and easily fixable. This shoe is wonderful!!

My friends who I consider way, way more fashionable than I were blunt & confessed they think these shoes are ugly. No other compliments either. I guess they are not lookers but the reviews caught my attention and I can also vouch - these shoes comfortable! Walked in the rain a long distance last night after a concert and I couldn't have been happier. Not a dressy shoe, but I do consider them the ideal alternative to gym shoes when needed.

I love Keens. I have two pairs of sandals, insulated hiking boots and urban boots. Most of them are size 6, except for the boots which ran small and are 6½. After reading the reviews I bought two pairs, 6 and 6½ figuring that I would return one and even the 6 seems a bit loose. I am definitely returning the 6½ which is huge and now considering trying a 5½, although with socks the 6 should be fine. I love the shape and the leather inside as well as out. Also I was looking for shoes with a buckle, not a hoop and loop closer which would make a mess of socks.

Beautiful shoe. Great color. But runs really large and this one is wide, too. I ordered two pairs of Keens - both 8 mediums. This one was too big and the other was too small! Keen makes great shoes that last, but the sizing is inconsistent.

Super comfortable footbed. There was some wearing on the back of me heel at first, but I was wearing them straight for 3 days on a trip. The tread is really good and grabs when I am riding my bike. Really happy I purchased these.

I have worn a slightly different style for years in size 9. This pair is about 1/2 size bigger than I am used to. I'm not sure about the toe box being high enough for my comfort until I try the correct size.

Much uglier than the Keen Paradise shoes I tried first. However, I was buying these for travel so comfort and a sole with excellent traction were the top criteria. I've been wearing these for a week now to make sure there aren't any hidden issues when I take them overseas. They are indeed very plushy and the arch support is great. The strap on the side where it is sewn in rubs a bit as does the top of the vamp, but since I plan on wearing these mostly with socks it's okay. Also, I'm so happy with the traction on these! My feet are a 5.5 Wide and the 5.5 Medium here fit me perfectly, with enough room for my toes. That says to me, though, that if you have narrow feet your usual size may be too roomy.

I bought these same shoes last year in brown. I wanted them for a trip to Italy where I could have a comfortable all day shoe that could be worn with a skirt, shorts or long pants. They were excellent! I then decided to get the solid black pair this year for another trip. Although I ordered the same size, these shoes felt slightly bigger. Unlike my first pair that I could wear with a sock or a ped, this pair needed a heavier sock to feel just right. Is this a great shoe? Yes, but I would suggest purchasing two pair to compare fit.

I love these shoes so far. I am still in the testing stage. The front on the outside of the shoe rubs a little, but I think it will be OK. Otherwise they are very comfortable as are all keens.
