I bought these because I love the color and straight look in the front. However I had to return them because 1)I have narrow calves and while the sales girl added an extra hole in the back buckle to cinch them tighter, they were still too wide in the calves and caused the boot to gape in the back, 2) I decided the gap in the back of boot looked a bit juvenile.

I wanted comfortable boots that were a bit more stylish and had a low heel. These seemed to fit the bill. I was a little hesitant about spending so much money on them, but it was totally worth it. I wanted to wear them on a trip to NYC so I did not have much time to break them in. They didn't need it. I wore them around the city for 4 days and never had an issue. They are super comfortable. When I first tried them on, they did slide a little on my heels, but I just wear thick socks with them and it solves the issue. It is also easy to dress them up or down. I've worn them with jeans and with slacks and skirts. The only negative thing I would say about them is that they do not keep your feet warm. At all. Other than that, they are exactly what I was looking for and I'm very happy with them!

These are beautiful boots. I love the silhouette. I like that the toe box is wide enough for my feet to spread out. I like that they're wide enough to go over skinny pants, but slim enough to wear straight over my athletic calves. I love that the look is "classic"; I can't imagine these going out of style. My only qualm: the shiny polish. I'm an earthy-casual-flowy-outdoorsy type who works a corporate job, so these would be perfect for work, but wouldn't quite match me for anything else. It's just the shine. Plus, as many other reviewers noted, the polish scratches easily -- and that doesn't look natural. Maybe it would be easy to maintain with leather lotion, but that's too high maintenance for me. For this price, I'd have to love everything. Returning, regretfully.

I love the look and feel of these boots, but oh my gosh! Are they supposed to scratch this easily? When I opened the box, they had several scratches already, which I tried to buff out with boot cream. Had moderate success. But now, after wearing them for only a few hours, they are scratched everywhere. I'm not sure if this is normal or if they are defective, but at this rate, they'll look years old by the end of the day!

These boots are cute, true to size, and will go with casual or dressy cas outfits for work. The leather is a bit soft so I'm expecting it to scratch easily but otherwise I think they are great. They look exactly like they do here online.

I really like this boot. I have large calves, 16 inches, and this boot is very snug on my calf. I hope they will loosen over time, right now I mainly wear them with tights. The boot does scuffle easily, which doesn't bother me. I think using leather conditioner would solve this if it is important to you. My favorite thing about these boots is that they are shapely at the ankle, very fitted, so they make my legs look great, because, no chunky ankle. I've gotten numerous compliments on them. The cutout in the back adds style and makes it different than other knee high black boots out there.

Received these about 3 hours ago and have been wearing them around the house. I went a half size smaller as suggested and they fit great. Very comfortable, and everyone in my family loves them and says they look great on me. My only concern was the ease of scratches. The leather is designed to take every nick and scratch to create a worn look. If this concerns you, I suggest you either don't order them or go take a look at them at Macy's (I just happened to pass them yesterday and noticed how scratched the display pair was). I have applied a small amount of Sno-Seal in an inconspicuous area, and that seems to keep the scratching to an acceptable level. If you want to protect them, I'd recommend protecting them right out of the box. With the coating on them, I think the worn look will give them character, so I am planning to keep them. So far, they look gorgeous!

I have large calves & have a difficult time finding boots that fit - without looking like a "stuffed sausage" in them. These fit & look amazing! Extremely comfortable. I'm usually size 10, however a 9 1/2 in these. 10-way too big. I purchased from a store-was able to try on for a perfect fit. I would recommend ordering at least 1/2 size down.

Nice boot but but the instep was crazy small and I could hardly squeeze my foot in this boot. There was plenty of toe room. as others have stated, it runs about a half size bigger. unfortunately must return.

My 10 year old daughter loves these, thinks they are very comfy and stylish. My only complaint is that the leather is SO soft. After one day of wearing them to school, they are totally scuffed. I feel like I will have to polish them after every time she wears them to keep them up. An adult would do better, but be warned if you have issues with scuffing your shoes, kids and dogs stepping on your shoes, etc. They will scuff quickly.

These boots run extremely big- I'm an 8 in shoes with no socks, and 8 1/2 in boots (like to wear thick socks), and these boots are way too big. I'm not even sure if the 8 would work- going to try the 7 1/2 at this point. Ridiculously cushioned and comfortable though- and good for wider calves.

Ordered these in my search for the perfect black boot. These felt perfectly comfortable the minute I put them on. Felt like I could wear them all day! The leather is a gorgeous sheen with the usual excellent construction I've come to expect from Born. The ONLY reason I will be returning them is that I didn't end up liking the cut-out behind the knee. I didn't know how I would feel about it until trying them for myself...but it's just too distracting....especially on my 5'3" frame.

The other reviewers are correct: the leather does mark easily. However, I find that look appealing. I thought the color was beautiful, and they were comfortable the moment I put them on. I loved the Born stamp on the outside heel, a very cute detail for branded leather. As a teacher, I stand on my feet the majority of the day so I look for support and these boots offer it. I have very large calves and measured the thickest part of my leg before buying them. My dominant side is my right side, which measures 16 1/4". I can get the boots zipped up, with a some mild effort. The left one zips up no problem. I did move the strap to the biggest notch. Once I had them on they felt pretty stiff but my no means, uncomfortable. I feel like after a few all-day wears, the heat from my body will soften the leather perfectly and the fit will become much looser. As it stands I can still get them on with leggings, but I don't think skinny jeans will work (for a while at least). If you are in doubt about calf size, measure your own before buying them, they are true to size (I wear a 10), and you will not be surprised if they zip or not.

So, just received both the 8 and 8.5...usually wear an 8.5 but these run long. The 8 was a perfect fit in the toe box. Definitely order the smaller if you are between sizes. My calf is a 16 and had zero problem zipping up but a tad snug going over fat part of calf. No problem though in the rest of boot. Also, please don't order if you don't like scratch marks. It scratches super easily and cant be buffed out but that's okay because I like the vintage look anyway. I have plantar fasciitis and the insole doesn't look it comes out but does offer decent support. Will know more when I walk around in them. Keeping the 8, and hoping for the best!

I have a difficult time finding boots to fit my large athletic calves (16½"). These arrived today, and are a very nice color, and fit easily over my calves, with room for jeans. The foot bed is very cushioned and comfortable. However, the toe box is a little big, making my feet appear a little large, especially in relation to the height of the boots. I wanted boots that were truly knee high, and these are about 3" below my knee, so the boot ends right at the largest part of my calf. The overall effect makes my calves look larger and shorter, and my feet look bigger, so I am sending them back. Otherwise these are cute boots.

These are nice boots, but I did not care for them when I tried them on. They are a little too wide of style for me and not as appealing as other Born boots that I own. My others hug my feet. This style is not as classy (in my opinion). I am returning. Zappos' return policy is wonderful!

I wanted to love these boots. They really are cute. Just not on me! The opening in the back made by calf look really wide. It went from narrow ankle to too wide at the top. I asked someone's opinion and they said that the boots were not flattering. Also, I am between 8½ and 9. I ordered the 8½, which felt snug. I did not get the impression that these shoes run half a size big. That is just my experience.

This was tight across the instep and I would not have been able to wear anything more than a very thin sock with it. And the leather seemed like it would scratch very easily. Returning for these reasons. It did however fit my wide calf, although no way pants were going on the inside.

Love the way this looks, but have to give it low marks for being a 'wide calf' option. I could zip it over bare legs but could never get leggings underneath, let alone jeans. The shaft of the boot was also too short, in my opinion. I expected them to come just below the knee for the open part in the back to hit right and look flattering, instead the top of the boot hit about 3 inches below my knee and the open part in the back just looked strange.

So sad to have to return these boots because the style and quality are top notch! However, even though they are "wide calf," they did not comfortably zip around the top of my calves. For those wondering: my calves at the widest are 17"...and yes, I could get the boots zipped up, but they were too tight. Way too tight, not even a question of whether they would stretch out or not. Sadly, back they go.

I was worried what size to order because some other reviews said these ran big. But I got 8.5 and that felt fine, I'm returning these boots because the calf is a bit narrower than I expected. I'm 5'9" and these boots just felt too small everywhere except the foot area. And the quality is a bit lower than I expected for the price. Sad to say I'm returning these though.

This was a lovely boot, but not for wide calves on short people. I have a 16 inch calf, but the widest part of this boot starts too far above the widest part of my calves. I couldn't zip them up. Sadly I have to return them.

Love the fit and feel, but the metal piece that fits into the buckle and holds the strap shut bent (and I didn't realize it until on vacation!) so the strap will not stay closed.

Cute boot and love the cute stitching on the back heel, but the stitching came apart after wearing the boots just a few times. Guess I'm sending them back.

I am sending these back, they arrived with the right boot scuffed and scratched. Boot fits good and true to size, very comfortable. The boot is more of a dull leather...not like the pictures provided which are more shiny leather. I am going to try a different brand.
