I am not a big shopper. And historically shoes are the last thing I would buy online because every shoe fits differently and I would never pay for shipping when I knew in advance that my chance for satisfaction was small. But I decided I really wanted these shoes- a birthday gift to myself. And I needed them by the weekend. So I first tried them on in several shoe stores. Each pair fit differently. Each size 7 1/2 fit differently. I wanted taupe, and could only find taupe in 1 store, and they did not fit at all. But I hoped that if I could try on several sized 7 1/2 taupe, MAYBE one would fit. Where else to turn? So Zappos gave me free overnight shipping, guaranteed free return- plus they are pleasant to speak with and most people know their products. Next day air. Perfect fit. Zappos comes through, again.

I LOVE these boots. I have terrible bunion problems and was concerned that the pointy toe might create a problem- but NO; no problem!!! There was plenty of room. I ordered my regular size, which is a 10M- I measure less, but always end up ordering a half size up because of the bunions. They are comfortable to wear even walking for long periods of time; they are both casual and "classy" in an atypical way. I like the "arty" look and these fit in perfectly. I wore them with a grey dress and sparkling jewelry and received many compliments. I wish I could afford them in other colors because they are wonderful.

Love these boots!!! I originally order by regular size which is a 7 but they were too tight in the toes. I went to a 7 1/2 and they are great! Just what I wanted:)

Great boots. Just like pictured, good fit. Was not disappointed. Pricey, but all Frye boots are.

Been "flirting" with these boots for a while now, I fell in love with it the first time I saw it online but wasn't sure whether they would fit me or if they would look good on my feet. I have to say that after my boots arrived, I fell in love with them even more (I purchased the gray ones.) The leather is so nice and soft, the smell of leather is so good and they are oh so comfortable, didn't have any problem getting them on or off. I bought my regular size 6 1/2 and they fit perfectly. They look good with leggings (am wearing them today with black leggings) but I wanna wear them with skirts and dresses. My legs are a bit too thin but I love these boots so much I am sure they'll look good anyway!!! First time Frye buyer and a very happy one. A little too pricey but awesome quality and very cute!!!

After reading the reviews I tried these boots on in a store before ordering them from Zappos. I always wear size 8.5 but I could not put my foot down the short shaft in that size. I tried a 9 and I got the boot on easily. But the footbed was perfect. As in the other reviews the gray is not really gray but a brownish distressed color but it is really, really nice. They are very comfortable and look very nice. I have other Frye boots but none are comfortable like these. I have never been able to wear in my Harness boots so that I would choose them to wear if I needed comfort. That is not the case with these boots. They are instantly comfortable and look great. I recommend them. Hope they continue to make them so I can order another color at another time.

These boots rock! Unfortunately with recent snow storms I haven’t had a lot of opportunity to wear them yet (I don’t want them to get wet), but so far they are everything I had hoped for. If you are someone who has issues with the traditional cowboy boot shaft due to larger calves, this shorter boot is for you! All the looks of a traditional cowboy boot that I was looking for, combined with a great fit in both the calf and foot. Plus, the height is perfect for a comfortable boot to wear for more than a couple hours. I wear an 8 1/2 M and these fit nicely. Also a little wider than other boots I have, so if you are a medium to slightly wide foot, I think these will work well for you. I am so pleased with these boots, that I have already encouraged a friend to buy a pair from Zappos. Good luck and happy boot-ing!

Love my Frye Billy Shorts! I work retail, on my feet all day and my feet have to be comfortable. I plan on wearing these all year long. I order all my boots a half size up and have never regretted it. I measure a size 9 but order and wear comfortably a 9.5. I refer customers to Zappos frequently! I think you are awesome!

I love this boot. I bought the Gray because of the pics and the many reviews that discuss how it goes with EVERYTHING. But it doesn't look at all like the photo. The gray looks exactly like the photos of the Taupe boot. So much so that I ordered another pair because I thought they had put the wrong boot in the box labeled Gray. The boot is darker than pictured. The leather color and the stitching are the same, whereas in the pic the stitching stands out being darker than the leather. All this said, the color does go with everything so I've kept it. I was looking for a boot that would look good with tan, brown, black, gray and both dark and light denim. These are it! I have the Frye Harness and it is quite a heavy boot with a boxier toe. I wear 8.5 in the Harness style with plenty of toe room. Billy Short is nice and light compared to harness. I had to go up half a size to 9, though, because of the narrowness of the toe. And I have narrow feet! The 8.5 was entirely too small, but the instep was a little loose for me. With the 9, the instep is a little looser than it probably should be but with a thin gel insole and/or a thicker sock, fits really nicely and the insole adds comfort. I use one in the Harness boot, too. This boot is perfect for travel because it's an easy on/off at the airport and doesn't take much space in luggage when you're not wearing it. The shaft is narrow enough that I can even wear a fairly narrow (straight) leg jean over it without it pulling awkwardly. And they look fabulous with bootleg cuts, of course. I don't know if I'll wear it with skirts. If I had more muscular legs, I definitely would. But the shaft diameter is a little big for me to feel comfortable with bare legs and a skirt. Leggings for sure, though, make it work.

Frye Billy Shorts are great! Lighter than some of the weighty Frye boots and true to size. They do run slightly wide, but still the foot does not slosh around in these. The heels do take some time to break in, a little hard to slide on at first. I have found this true of all Frye brand boots, but with a shoe horn to begin with, they soon wear well. Very comfortable and WELL constructed. I ordered the grey and the color and style work with all my wardrobe! Really hip boots and I love the shorter rise, doesn’t make your pants puff out like some of the taller boots! Extremely pleased with this purchase and Zappos as ALWAYS!!! Thinking of ordering the Deborah shorts as well.

OK these have to be the most comfortable boots I have ever worn. They were comfortable from the first second I tried them on! I have the worst feet EVER and it is so amazing to find shoes that don't hurt by the end of the day. I even wore them on a recent trip to California where I had to walk all day in them and my feet felt great! I ordered a 1/2 size bigger than normal because I have special orthotic inserts (remember the bad feet) and they work great in these boots. I ordered the Fryes and another brand for comparison but I went with the Fryes because of the comfort factor and the fact that they didn't make my feet look so big. The Ariats are cute and comfortable but the toe box was about 2 inches longer than the Fryes. Well, at a 9.5 shoe size, I certainly don't need my feet to look any bigger than they already do. Therefore I went with the Fryes -- well worth the extra money! I also got the grey pair and they go with everything!!! BUY THESE BOOTS! p.s. if they are hard to get on the first time or so, don't panic, your socks are just too thick! Once your feet go in, you'll want to wear them all day long! I love the boots. These remind me of a pair I had when I was a teenager. They are incredibly comfortable. I would recommend these to anyone who loves cowboy boots or who want a really comfortable pair of boots.

These boots are awesome! The color and fit are exactly as I expected (true to size for me, 7.5=7.5). They are super comfortable and actually warm; I have taken them on many rainy bike rides and my feet have stayed warm and dry, and stylish! Great product. I look forward to my next Frye purchase with Zappos.

Wow! I am so impressed with my brown, Frye Billy Short boots. These boots are of excellent quality, excellent comfort, combined with a cool looking boot which I can dress up or down, depending on what I wear with them. These are great walking shoes and are comfy even after having them on all day. I typically wear a size 10 so I ordered a 10 and they are a perfect fit. I am now thinking of buying another pair of Frye Billy Short in a black.

The Billy Frye short boots are great! They fit true to size in length, maybe a bit wider than the norm. Very comfortable, no real break-in time needed. The look cute with jeans or dresses and tights/leggings. I have several other styles of Frye boots, and they never disappoint.

I just received my grey Billy Shorts and I love them! It was not love at first try-on though, because it took me 10+ minutes and a ton of sweat to get those babies on! But once I wiggled my foot in there, they fit beautifully. I've read they stretch, so I wore them all night and did my best to stretch them out. Getting them off the first time was something of a challenge, but I stretched them as I was taking them off, so hopefully next time they'll be a little more cooperative. I have bigger calves and the shaft height hits before the calf swells out, so that was a relief. Now I want them in another color.

Based on other reviews I ordered a larger size. I have a slightly wide foot and ordered a half and full size up. Both sizes were too big so I’d recommend ordering your true size. It was not difficult to get them on. I returned them because they were too large.

based on other reviews I bought these in a 9.5 instead of my usual 9. They are a little roomy and might possibly be a bit big when/if they stretch out, but because the toe is pointy I'm afraid that a size 9 would feel too small so I am going to keep them. They're kinda boring - no stitching or other details that are noticeable in the black. If they weren't on sale I would probably return, but for the price they'll be fine.
