Comfortable and truly waterproof. Good support and little break in. Only problem was some fraying of the material just above the top inner eyelets after just a couple of weeks. Zappos efficiently swapped out for a new pair. My son wore these for many miles of camp without blisters or wet foot complaints.

My husband has large feet and he is on his feet all day. These are the only shoes he'll wear.

Great shoes. Run slightly small to size. Solidly supporting shoe. Don\'t be fooled it does not wear like a tennis shoe. It has much more structure and form, think short hiking boot. But I really like them to get off the pavement in something light and comfortable.

I have been looking for a shoe that is water bearing or keeps the water off my feet. This shoe did well, and very satisfied. This is an excellent shoe highly recommended.

I would highly recommend these shoes to anyone that is looking for a shoe in a wide size. Out of all the shoes that I tried that come in a wide size. These are the only shoes that actually fit my feet comfortably. They have enough room in the toe box so that my feet do not feel cramped. The only negative thing I can say about these shoes is that my feet do not breathe as well like those that have mesh for cool air flow. Nothing a little foot powder can not help. Overall, I really enjoy wearing these shoes!

Good fit. Comfy and light. Excellent in the mixed surfaces I walk on. They ventilated well but the rubber toe came unglued on the right shoe. Experienced a bit of heel slippage on the right shoe. The tread is well designed prevents gravel from getting wedged in between the tread pattern. Good shoe, good price.

Nice rugged hiking shoe. Good room in the toe box. Fit well. I needed more of a flexible trail runner type so I went with the North Face Hedgehog instead.

This shoe was comfortable out of the box, and fits well, however, it is a bit hard underfoot compared to my other trail shoes. They come with a wafer-thin insole. The shoes held up well to a February Tahoe trip with occasional walking in snow. Since most of my walking miles are done on a sidewalk, these shoes stress my knee joints a little too much for everyday use. These are the best looking trail shoes I have found, but not the most comfortable.

Update to my prior post. My new pair arrived last week. Country of manufacture is Vietnam. Hopeful that manufacturing quality has improved. Aside from the glue separation problem, the XCRs are a great shoe. We'll see if it holds up to daily use.

I wanted to give this shoe 5 stars as it is an excellent shoe as designed. I've had two pairs over the past several years. Unfortunately, I believe Merrell's quality control has deteriorated in the manufacturing process. The glue they (Chinese) are currently using tends to deteriorate fairly quickly resulting in glued surfaces coming apart. Cold weather seems to accelerate this separating effect. The shoe material itself seems to wear well, but local shoe repair shops are unable to fix the problem. Sad to see Merrell's brand deteriorating. I just ordered my third and last pair of shoes (the same model). As stated, I very much like this shoe...until it falls apart. I have a pair of Danner boots (made in Oregon) I've worn for more than 40 years. I had them re-soled two years ago. They'll likely outlast me. Zappos is a pleasure to work with and their customer service is second to none. They are the reason I'm trying this shoe one last time.

I have owned multiple pairs of the Merrell shoes and have been happy with most until now. Shoe color is much darker than appears in picture and much darker than previous pair. Left shoe top stitching is extremely uncomfortable and rubs top of foot. Finally after all this time Merrell could fix the shoe strings. At this price point, I expect a much better pair of shoes from Merrell.

These feel fine, until I start walking. The eyelett above my big toe digs into my foot as I walk. I am guessing that the shoe's thick and rugged material may break-in, but I need something that I can wear immediately. I also bought the Moab Ventilator (looks identical to the Gore-Tex XCR). It fit perfectly and was very comfortable right away. There is also more support in the arch on the Ventilator. Three stars overall for build, seemed like it would probably go longer than most shoes. One star for comfort. It just plain hurt to walk. Five stars for style. I really liked the way they looked.

I tried this since it is the Moab Ventilator, but with GORE-TEX. The heel support is more comfortable than the Ventilator, which forces your heels to roll outward as though you had bowed legs. Unfortunately, the GORE-TEX acts like a furnace. After an hour I had to take the shoes off before my feet melted.

Like the shoes very much. The shoe laces? Not so much! No matter which way I tie them I find I am constantly having to redo them several times a day. Frustrating!

I liked the look of these shoes, I wear a size 11 and I ordered these a half size larger after reading some of the reviews. Even with the 1/2 size increase they still fit a little snug in the toe box. I've worn them several times thinking that they would become more comfortable, but in the end I should have returned them and bought a size up.

I bought these shoes for their waterproof nature and was disappointed. Feet got wet, and now the front rubber area by the toes has come lose and separated from the sole. Now I really do have wet feet!

Comfortable and waterproof when walking through wet grass and shallow puddles. After wearing them for a week at work (landscaping/lawn mowing), they smelled like a cat pissed in them. That's all I can smell when I wear them now. Have to leave them outside or in the shop when I come home. This doesn't happen with my waterproof Keens.

I bought these for my husband. He needs a Gore-Tex shoe for hiking and running in the woods. He really liked the support these shoes gave him; wore them in the winter running on snowmobile trails. Kept his feet dry in all seasons. But now they are less than a year old and falling apart. He did not wear them every day, although as a UPS driver they would have been very comfortable. I feel this is unacceptable and will not buy another pair. Less than a year old, not worn daily - I feel for what I paid for these shoes, they should last longer. I still love Zappos,though!

These shoes which are supposed to be waterproof, in reality, after several weeks they began to leak. Insist on Gore-Tex models that do not leak as the membrane in this model does not stop all water intrusion.

I love these shoes! I bought them in preparation of a trip to Africa and they worked great... for a month. At exactly the four week mark, the rubber sole began to separate at the inside of my left heel. Very upsetting considering the amount of money they are. I will buy one more pair in hopes that I got a dud due to the fact that I liked them so much...

I have wide feet and these boot came in wide width, they are very comfortable, I did a lot of traveling, wore them five out of seven days for about a year. However, I was very disappointed with the quality of the Gore-Tex. It did not hold up, started to leak water on modest raining days in the front of the right shoe (big toe area) after about five month of wear. I just ordered another pair, hope the Gore-Tex holds up this time around!
