As a veteran and a military contractor I can truly appreciate the importance of "business tactical." If fashion met function, 9 months and one night of unbridled passion later, the Merrell Moabs would be their offspring. Whether you're navigating the local hiking trails on an "activity date" with a woman who finally found time for you in her busy yoga and triathlon training schedule, or trying to find the quickest way to the DFAC; the Moabs won't let you down. The Moabs sit upon a Vibram foundation of chiseled rubber. The perfection of which is reminiscent of Michelangelo's David and is said to be inspired from Hephaestus' personal designs. Their superstructure is the ultimate marriage of strength and breath-ability, which will undoubtedly leave future archeologists befuddled by their perfection.

I have wide and flat size 13 feet. That leaves me few options that feel really comfortable. I'm happy to report that the fit on these seems exactly like my Moab Vent low-tops. I have had to replace the insoles, but I kind of expect that given my foot. We haven't had too many rainy days yet, but it seemed to hold up to some puddles.
The footbed seemed ok on wet asphalt, wet diamond rise metal plates, wet metal grates and soft soil. It was dangerously slick on a restaurant's wet granite tile floor, but given that knowledge, it was ok w/careful steps.

OMG, these are the best hiking shoes that I have ever owned! I have owned several pairs of hiking shoes, and boots from other companies over the past 4 years of my short hiking life, but none fit and feel as good as these. I have always had difficulty finding a good fitting hiking shoe, because my feet are a 10 wide, and Merrell, I just discovered, is one of the few companies that put out hiking footwear in wide sizes. I literally just returned from a 10 day campimg trip in the NH White Mountains. I wore them on the flights up, and back, and hiked up to the top of Mt. Washington, as well as on a number of other mountain trails around Mt. Washington. They were so comfortable that I didn't even know that I had them om my feet, even after flying, or hiking all day. The treads gripped well on the very rocky, rugged terrain that I encountered on most of the trails I adventured out on. I must say that I did make one modification, and that was to change out the insoles for a pair of Powerstep insoles which worked better with my high arches. I do love these shoes, and I am amazed at how comfortable they are and how well they perform!

Great shoe, had to exchange my 9 for 9.5 since they were a little too tight with the socks I wear. I suspect they run a half size small. I had the same problem with another pair. Definitely waterproof. Went walking through a muddy bog and just hosed them off when I was done, good as new and dry on the inside.

I bought these for my husband after his current pair of Merrells of 15 years finally gave up. These shoes are awesome, super supportive, and they look great on him. He wears them every day, and between farm work and walking they still look new.

Warning; may fall apart under pressure.
NOTE: This review is in regards to the "MID-sized" style of this shoe that goes up higher on the ankle than the one about. Otherwise, the same shoe though. Disappointed for several reasons: A) was not exactly waterproof from the start. B) after heavy use including frequent exposure to water and sunlight, the inside stiffened and became very uncomfortable. C) under daily squatting and kneeling, the front end of the right shoe CAME OFF COMPLETELY, the adhesive just disintegrated and it peeled right off. These were straining conditions (I work at a farm), but still, this shoe did not stand up as I expected.

Comparison of fit for the Merrell Moab Gore-tex XCR vs the Vasque Velocity: Both were size 10. I generally wear a 9½ or a 10, medium width. The Moab has a slightly wider toe box and a narrower heel fit then the Velocity. In the Velocity my toes felt slightly squeezed together but the heel fit was sloppy, a blister waiting to happen. For my feet the Moab was a much better fit. Plenty of toe-box width and a locked in heel. The Velocity is a good looking trail shoe which was sent back to Zappos. Because I have medium to low arches and the residual effects of heel spurs from my marathoning running days, I am using the Montrail Enduro-Soles (from Zappos) with the Moabs. I gave them the oven treatment, put them in the shoes and immediately put the shoes on. Initially, the arch of the Montrails' felt too close to my heel. After wearing them for a few days I trimmed the toe end of the soles allowing them to slide a little deeper into the shoe, which seemed to help. After wearing them for a few weeks they now feel right -supportive where I need it and nicely cushioned. Due to the thickness of the soles some may find their toes too close to the top of the shoe. This was not a problem for me. There is minimal, if any, break-in time necessary for the Moabs'. It 's a Gore-Tex lined sneaker with a hiking sole. I prefer the Vibram sole of the Merrell's over the soles of the Vasque Velocity's. I'll be replacing the laces of the Merrells' as they don't stay tied without a double knot. I haven't gotten the Moab's wet yet but soon I'll be using them for a couple of weeks on the (rocky) Pennsylvania Mid-State Trail and we will see how they hold up.

I've spent years burning through crappy $12 wallyworld shoes every two months. I walk everywhere I go and I'm stocky to boot, my feet have simply had enough. I put aside for these for a month and I'm very happy to find the massive difference in quality! My wide feet have always felt crushed in shoes, no longer! I've always gotten soaked in every minimal rain but after a week of snow and rain conditions I'm still dry! My feet feel so good it's hard to put in words! My one complaint? The lack of non-slip soles does make wet rocks/floors tricky. Don't care, love 'em! Thanks Merrell and thanks CSR Babe from Zappos (somewhere in the desert) for awesome customer service!
I'd also recommend:
first non-crap pair of shoes :P but definitely Merrell.

Excellent shoes as always with Merrell. Used them for Asia trip. Borneo Forest as of yesterday and performed awesome in wet terrain, slipery rocks and mud. Fit perfect. I have had Merrell since 1993. Love them.

I just returned from a 10 day biking trip in Northern France. I actually biked in these shoes after trying one day in running shoes. No comparison! These shoes are waterproof (it downpoured for two solid days) and they provide great support. I have hiked in these shoes are they provide perfect support and great traction on slippery rocks. I, without reservation, recommend these shoes!

I got these as a gift for my boyfriend and he absolutely loves them. He is constantly outdoors; hiking, fishing, camping and these were his #1 pick. He only wears Merrell's and the loves the Gore-Tex for the breathable material.

I have always loved Merrell shoes, but this one is the most comfortable of any I've owned. I was not aware it was available in a wide width, and am so happy with the comfort and support it offers. I'm a heavyweight who likes hiking and walking activities. This shoe is the perfect fit. Great shoe!

I've worn nothing but Merrells for years and still consider them the best walking shoe out there. For dress, I always go with Rockports though.

Great shoes. Replaced my Moabs without Gore-tex. One thing I do not like is that the toe and heel have suede on them, which scuffs easier than my old Moabs did.

Relatively light, and very confortable from the start. Planning to take as my only footwear on overseas trip; Beluga color will go with khaki or dark clothing; good value for the price.

These are great shoes! I am very pleased with my purchase, and the customer service at Zappos is some of the best that I have ever experienced! And, of course, the shipping was super speedy, which is always a bonus! Thanks again, I will definately recommend these shoes to others, as well as the Zappos website. You guys are the best! Super friendly, and over the top helpful!

I've never purchased Merrell's before, not sure why... Finally a wide shoes that is actually wide! These fit my wide foot great, have good support and are indeed waterproof (Gore-Tex is awesome). While the soles provide good traction in the desert and mountains of Arizona, they do tend to hold gravel. I'm not much into style and care mostly about performance. So far these are performing great. I've only been wearing them for a month and a half so have no Idea how they will hold. I expect they will last longer than most 'wide' shoes I've worn because most blow out on the side from my wide foot.

I just received my Merrell Moabs, and right out of the box, they were comfortable, but somewhat stiff as you would expect. Fit and finish were what you would expect. I don't normally buy shoes off the internet, but after wearing their camp mocs, I ordered they same size. They fit just fine and will be even better once they are broken in, and will perform as advertised. It just proves, you get what you pay for.

These are the first Merrell shoes I've owned. I have to say that I was thoroughly impressed! Previous brands I used to purchase were New Balance, but these feel far superior. They feel excellent on my feet, right from day 1 without any break-in period. That says it all for me. I would highly recommend these shoes.

I had an older pair that I wore for about 8 years and finally wore off the tread. I wanted an all around hiker travel/adventure shoe. This one is perfect. Very light, sturdy and well made. Normally I wear a 9 1/2 and bought a 10. It fits perfect. I was not sure if the Gore-tex would add weight or be an issue with flexability, but they are breathable but maybe slightly warmer than my previous non Gore-tex. I have not tested them in the rain, but I think they should handle well in moderate conditions. I would highly recommend these shoes.
