The circumference of this boot IS NOT 16 inches. I wrote a review which included this information. I received a friendly email from ZAPPOS politely saying that they were an extended calf boot. THEY ARE NOT. My calves are 15 1/2 and these boots wouldn't zip. Unfortunately, I believe that possibly Frye doesn't have the quality control that they used to.

Beautiful boots. Not sure how they fit because I couldn't get them over my calves. I measured them. They are 15.5". Not sure how these can be 16" circumference. I couldn't even get them much past my ankles.

The inside circumference of this boot is 15"...so if you have 16" calves (as found on the description) this boot won't fit. I even ordered an 8 1/2 just to make sure. But alas no luck...they're going back. They are a beautiful boot though.

Very nice but expensive and not especially different than others considering the cost. Might be different in a nice brown but with plain black I think I can get a cheaper pair that look as nice. Also ran big for me.

This was such a sad experience. The leather is gorgeous and style spot on but I should have heeded earlier reviewers' comments about tight fit and not ordered these boots. There is no way I would ever be able to get my feet into these boots given the narrow cut of the lower part of the boot shaft. I don't understand how anyone can get them on. Even if I could have gotten my feet down there, I think the upper part of the boot would have been too tight. Not sure how these get marketed for people needing extra space in their boots. After seeing these beautiful boots, everything else is going to look second rate. Sigh. What a bummer.

I love the boots. I was looking forward to receiving them. I had ordered other Frye boots in my same size (7), which fit perfectly. Unfortunately, these ran large and the shaft was way wide. They should be fine for those with larger calves.

I purchased these boots back in 2012 in the dark brown burnished leather (don't think this color is still available) and they were perfect. I have 16'' calves and they fit perfectly. This month, I purchased the exact same boot (style and size) in the cognac calf shine and it has been such a disaster. There are super tight around the calf. I keep thinking that they will stretch the more I wear it but to no avail. I'm not sure if something changed with the material or manufacturing, but it is not the same boot as the one I purchased previously. Such a disappointment though because this was one of the few boots that fit me.

I'm about 5'3" or 5'4" with a 15 in calf and was really hoping for a pair of Frye's. The Paige fit around my calf but are way to tall - also not as elegant as they look online. The Melissa are perfect height for me but barely get around my calf with no stockings on - forget any leggings or skinny jeans. So bummed - had to return both.

These boots are seriously gorgeous, but sadly, not the 16" shaft circumference advertised. For reference, I wear a 7.5, and I have 14.5" calves. I considered having a cobbler stretch the boots out but didn't want to take the risk given the price point.

Oh boy, I'm about to return these boots. I could not *possibly love the color any more it's so chic, but the fit just isn't going to work. After reading reviews, I went half a size down, so the foot fit great and I had no issue getting them on or off, as others did. I also read a lot about the fit around the calf, which is where my issue is. I'm 5'6 and 115 pds, and the calf portion is so wide, I can literally stick a fist down the boot. They look and fit similar to the way rain boots might fit on me! I'm sad though, becuase the leather is beautiful and the color is Divine. If you have very wide calf though, I'd go for it, they really are a beautiful boot.

I was really looking forward to getting these, but ultimately, I felt disappointed and returned. I am 5'3, and they were about an inch too tall, even though they came up right below my knees. The extra pieces of leather flared out too much around the top, and I looked like a fireman wearing these boots. I gave them an ok rating only because the quality of the actual boot was excellent. My feet are a tad bit on the wide side, and I have athletic calves. The fit of the boot was great, except for the top part of the boots flaring out too much...maybe I should order a boot with a smaller circumference? As far as slipping them on and off--they were a bit tough to actually get on, but this is expected with Frye boots. I am ordering the Engineer next...

I bought the cognac calf shine and the boots were beautiful but way too tall. The website says they are 16" tall but I measured them and they are 17" tall (an inch makes a big difference on your legs). They hit at an awkward spot on my knee and because of that they were just really unflattering. I wish I could have kept them but I ended up returning them and ordered the Melissa button back zip extended and they are perfect. Fryes are amazing boots though and I am so glad I bought a pair, definitely worth the money!

I ordered the vegetable tanned gray leather when the burnished antique gray leather proved too casual for what I was looking for. They are great quality, but unfortunately the color is just not as advertised. It's a very dark taupe that basically looks brown, and it gives it a more cowboy-boot appearance. I actually prefer the burnished antique gray to this kind because you can at least tell it's gray. The fit was great. Paige is one of the only regular-calf Frye styles that fits my athletic calves.

For the first time, I'm disappointed with a pair of Fryes. These are not what I expected. They feel very light and a little cheap. I expected them to be darker much as well.

I love everything about these boots except the color. They are more of a taupe than true grey. The color is still quite pretty, but not what I was hoping for. If I hadn't worn them before the "dust" wore off, they would have been returned.

Beautiful boot...loved the grey color. Unfortunately so wide in the calf to the point it looked sloppy rather than casual. Bummer that they went back. Love the Melissa back zip in grey that I just received instead. :)

These boots are just okay to me. In the color I ordered (dark brown) they end up looking rather like work boots. I was hoping for something a bit dressier and shapelier. They are quite large in the calf, which did not work for me, even with jeans tucked in. I also do not like the pull-on styling that makes them boxy through the ankle. At a lower price point, I might keep them, but not for this price!

Great boots though seem more tan than grey. My other Fryes are size 10 and these seem to run much larger. However some friends with smaller sized feet had to get theirs stretched to get on and off easily.

Beautiful leather and a clearly well made boot. Zappos didn't have my size and I went down half a size which I think was right. Tan pair felt like a dream and fit wonderfully but they seemed a bit too country for my typical style. I reordered in black and the black was a significantly different fit. Black was stiff, hard to get on/off, and rubbed on my ankles. Loved the look but hated the feel. I also have difficult calves and these seemed to just barely fit. Again, the tan I had no problems fitting into and the black would've definitely been skinny jeans only. The search continues!

After reading the reviews, I was very excited to get these boots! When they arrived they looked beautiful. I got them in the dark brown burnished color, which has a wonderful rich color. When I put them on they felt very comfortable; they fit over my jeans easily and it felt supportive. I usually wear a size 8 or 8½, and I found that the size 8½ was a great fit with cozy winter socks. Despite how beautiful they looked in the box and how comfortable they were, the boots did not look right on me. The width at the top was very wide and it made where the top hit (just below my knee) look unnecessarily wide. It looked like I had gained at least 10 pounds! I tried them on with other jeans and leggings, but they just did not look quite right on me. I had my roommate try them on, and they looked good on her, possibly because of her height/weight. I am 5'6" with an athletic build, and she is about 5'8" with a very slim build. Either way, they are not the right boots for me, but they really are beautiful!

Wanted to wait to review these until I had worn them for a bit. Well now I have and I have mixed reviews. Pros: They fit my athletic calves about 16-18". They are leather lined so it's like two layers of leather with an additional layer on the front. They're comfy, thanks to the low heal - see cons for further explanation. I've had no problems with wet conditions, but I'd advise to buy the waterproofer to protect your investment. Cons: Very disappointed in quality of soles. I have been wearing them 3-4 days a week for about a month and they already need to be replaced ($50-75). *If you have bad arches like I do, invest in some insoles because these don't come with any arch support. I tried out the Ariat ATS (because they were in my cowboy boots) & they're a lot better - I was getting that planter fascia pain. The ATS insoles are cushiony, have a molded arch and those bumpy things in the heel and foot bed and are a less. Sometimes I think that they look like Santa's boots. Also, I don't own skinny jeans that tuck in boots, and I wear these mostly with skirts, but have worn them with regular jeans and slack over them and they look pretty sharp. For some buying expensive shoes may be now big deal, but this is the most I ever spent on a pair of boots or shoes, even my cowboy boots were under my budget, so I expected the best. My dad said they're probably not meant to wear all the time, but I say for the cost they ought to be. After all, add in the cost of the resoling and insoles these boots cost well over my budget. As to whether I'd buy them again I don't know, but I at least wanted to pass along what I learned.

I'm typically a size 8, sometimes a 7 1/2. Because of other comments, I ordered a 7 1/2 and that was the right size. While the boots were pretty and the style I was looking for, I found the height too short for my 5'8" frame and thus not flattering. In addition, because they topped out at the wide part of my calf, they weren't as slimming/elongating as they could have been. I have sent them back and am trying some that are taller and also have a bit wider circumference (Belle by Sigerson.) My calves are 15" and these were tighter than I like.

These boots are beautiful, I've been lusting after them for months! I finally broke down and ordered them and am heartbroken to say I will be sending them back. I am usually an 8 but have found that in Frye I am a 7.5, no biggie but this boot does have a very wide shaft (too wide) which I also could've overlooked but the ankle is way too big! gets all bunched up and foot slips around, I tried everything and the ankle is just to wide, it's like the shaft of the boot starts from halfway between your toes and your ankle. Weird. I need a recommendation on a tighter boot..
