These shoes are beautiful and I really wanted them to work but the calf was so incredibly wide. I took them to a shoe repair and they said they were so wide I'd be better off finding another boot because they would charge about 240 to reduce the width of the calf. I'm so bummed. If anyone knows of a high quality boot like this with a narrow calf, please share.

If you have high arches let me spare you the money. I couldn't even get the boots on. Ever heard of a zipper Frye? I was bummed because these boots are very nice looking and good quality.

I was so excited about these boots. I am 5'2" and have a 15" calf at the widest part. I read many of the reviews, even one person who had a 17" calf said they fit her. These boots wouldn't go over my calf and my short height made the boots come to the middle of my knee (had I been able to pull them up that far). I was so disappointed that I had to send them back. The leather, however, was beautiful and soft. Great quality, but as usual...boots are made for tall thin people. It damages my self esteem ever so slightly each time I have to return a pair of boots due to the calf circumference.

In search of the perfect black boot for fall, I ordered this with the hope it would be more equestrian than Western... it's a very comfortable boot & the leather is nice and supple, but it's more casual and slouchy than I had hoped. There's very little support in the shaft & the leather just kind of, for lack of a better word, puddles at my ankles. Plus the opening at the top is VERY wide in appearance - originally I thought this would be a good thing (with my 15" circumference calves), but instead it just looks like a baggy boot. If you're looking for comfy & ultra casual, this might do the trick. If you want a structured look, continue your search! This will go back.

I wanted to like these boots. I looked forward to them so much. But they are way big and clunky and chunky and not attractive. It really looks like you're getting ready to go muck-out stalls & work in the barn. They are extra wide at the top, and like a lot of people said, at least a 1/2 size too big. I do not recommend these boots if you are wanting a streamlined, classic, enduring boot. These are not it.

I seem to be one of the few disappointed ones here, which even had me surprised since there were so many grand reviews. I did order the red color, and thought the boot looked more like galoshes in person than a nice dress boot. Also the hard leather throughout the boot but especially on top of the boot rubbed into my knees and reminded me just how unpliable the leather feels against your skin. I do have larger calves, just under 15" in circumference, but I do own boots that still don't add bulk like these ones did. Also the boot runs a 1/2 size to a full size too big. I measure just under a true size 10, and I would of wore a 9 in these if I would have kept them. So far, I haven't been terribly impressed with Frye, they seem overpriced for the quality of leather that goes into them. And not all that put together. I'll stick to other boot makers from Italy and Spain for now. My boots from there are buttery and velvety soft and still so durable.

First purchased these for my daughter in September. She's a college student, and wore them frequently. Styling and comfort are wonderful! But three months later, holes were worn into both soles! Zappos kindly took the first pair back and sent off a replacement pair (assuming this was a fluke for a pair of Fryes). Four months later, same problem! The sole is not of the same construct as most Frye boots I've owned. This probably won't happen if you don't use these as an everyday boot, but still... (by the way, my daughter is tall and slender, so weight bearing wasn't the issue!). Thank you to Zappos for standing behind your products. We're now going for a different Frye boot with the traditional, hefty sole!

I ordered 2 sizes in this boot as I did not know which would fit. This pair of 9 1/2 are worn!!! It is so obvious. How could Zappo's send out something so damaged? I believe I give you some decent business between Zappos and 6pm.com. I received 4 pair of boots this year which were worn. Where is your customer service. I am debating whether I should keep the size 10's or not, as they are quite expensive! They have a little damage as well, but they are such a beautiful boot.
Please work on customer service and your shipping department. There was very little packing or tissue as well in the box of 9 1/2's.What a disappointment!

I usually don't write reviews, but I am so beyond bummed. I've wanted these boots for years! I finally decided to splurge. Read just about every review, sized accordingly... Just like we all have grown to love Zappos shipping at them here in less than 24 hours. I pull them out of the box and I can't even get my foot into them. I started to panic that I was going to get stuck. I'm a size 9 with a 15.5 inch calf circumference...so disappointed. Bye-bye Frye!

In size 11, a size 11 foot can't fit through the ankle opening to put these boots on! I am a slim woman, and the foot size is clearly correct when I put my foot against the sole, but there is no way that I can get my heel past the ankle. That is very disappointing.

I wanted so badly to love these boots, and I wanted so badly for them to fit! For the price I just knew they'd be spectacular, but sadly they weren't! I did my homework and carefully read the reviews. Several stated the boots were a full 17" circumference. Sadly, these boots don't come close. I'm a size 9-9.5, with athletic calves, and they were tight to the point of being uncomfortable. Also, I got the dark brown and the color was awful! Very disappointed in my first (and more than likely last) pair of Fryes!

Couldn't even get the boot on. There are no zippers and the boot was so tight at bottom that my narrow foot couldn't even fit through.

Super disappointing. This was to be my first pair of Fryes and I am surprised at the flimsy quality of the leather. These boots seem more like a cheap knock off of a nice boot. I have only my Palladium knee high boots to compare them to, which I now know are full grain leather, a thicker sturdier, wear-every-day boot (which I do.) Of course they're out of production, the Frye were supposed to replace them. I tried this style as well as the Carson Lug, since those looked beefier, especially in the sole. While the Carsons were better, they were not amazing. Other people seem to be really stoked about them, which is great. These seem like dress boots.

Wow...totally disappointed with this boot. I bought them in the Tan Burnished Antique Leather and the color is nothing like what Zappos has pictured here. Based on the picture I thought the leather would have a slight shine to it and that the color would be the light reddish brown/tan color that is shown, but these are 100% dull, light brown/tan leather. No shine whatsoever. There is actually nothing burnished or antique looking about them (except maybe for the fact that they were all scratched up). Even after I wiped off that white protective film that Frye puts on their leather, these boots still looked blah. A coworker of mine bought the exact same pair over a year ago and the color is nothing like the ones I got. Maybe it has to do with the cut of leather that was used, but for this price I'm not willing to compromise. Also, the fit was kind of weird...slightly tight in the calf and big in the foot (I ordered a 7.5 and normally take a 7.5 or 8 in boots). Once on they felt okay, but getting them on and off wasn't easy. That is something that would probably fix itself after wearing them a few times, though. I will definitely not be buying any Frye boots without trying them on in person first.

Loved the style of this boot and was super excited when it came in. Having to return the boot because they are IMPOSSIBLE to get on. Never could get either boot on in order to see if they fit.

Can't wait to send these back on Monday! What a huge disappointment. These are so baggy around the ankle and look terrible on me at 5'5. I love the Veronica Slouch, which I have in the extended calf - my calf is 15.5 at the widest and that boot is wonderful, but was looking for something knee high. I must be too short for this boot.

Great, loved them, until I got a tiny tiny little spot on them. Did what I was supposed to do, clean them, and ruined them which tells me something. I'm very sad, disappointed, mad and well heart broken. You spend this kind of money on a boot you expect they would hold up a little longer with the best care.

I love the look of these boots but it was impossible to put them on! I have never had this problem but I actually had to put a bag over my foot to get it on for the first time. The second time I could do it with a very thin sock but it took about three minutes to get it on and once on, it fit everywhere except I had an inch of space by my toes. I love the looks of them but sadly they were a no go for me.

I'm 5'5" and 100 bones with fairly thin legs, unless you have larger calves, don't waste your time on these. I loved the look and style, but 2 inch gaps at the top of the boot. I had to return mine.

Lovely looking straight out of the box, fit comfortably on my foot. But the calf is huge! They look far wider than galoshes would. They are even wider than I would assume a "wide calf" boot would be. I even considered having them "taken in" but it's not worth it. Too bad, as I so wanted to love these.

I love Frye boots and shoes. The leather is fabulous. Excellent quality. So I was so sad when I got these boots (which are gorgeous) and I could barely get them on. I have a pretty regular foot. A medium width. Size 10. Regular arch (not a high one). But it took me a good 15 minutes, lying on my back, to get just one of the boots over my ankle. I couldn't get it on my right foot (which is my smaller foot). When I called Frye to ask if it was possible that this pair had an issue, the woman said I must just have high arches (I don't) and all our feet our different. Fair enough. I had a friend (who is a boot junkie) try them on, and even though she's a size 8, narrow feet, she had trouble getting them on. (Though agreed they're still gorgeous to look at.) Sorry Frye, I'm afraid I have to give a low overall rating. I wish it would have worked out.

I wrote a review on these boots previously, before I ever really wore them. My opinion has changed drastically. I took them with me to Europe and wore them 2-3 times. One of the days it rained. The boots got completely soaked inside and out. It wasn't even major rain and I tried my best to avoid puddles. The right boot especially, was soaked after an hour. The water damage is irreversible. There are dark water lines all over the boots, and I gave them 2-3 days to dry. Still there. Also, the soles are super slippery even in dry weather, so I was constantly slipping and almost falling. What a nightmare. I was under the impression that these are high quality "rugged" boots, and for the price you would expect that. Not so. They are just like another other cheap shoe, and in fact none of my other boots ever got this wet out in the rain. When I contacted customer service at Frye they basically told me they are a "fashion" boot and not meant to be worn out in in the rain. Ridiculous! Unless you live in a desert where it never rains, don't buy these. Waste of money. Also they run about a size bigger. I wear a 9.5, and the 9 is too big for me. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere; don't ever buy Frye. This was a splurge for me, and I regret it.
