I got these because I could remove the arch support and put in my own orthotic. I love these shoes. I have worn them daily since I got them. I can even wear them at the doggie park which is covered with DG without getting grit and gravel in them. I like the sandal effect because my feet can breathe and not turn into a simmering environment for athlete's foot.

I like Keen. My next pair of trail shoes will probably be Keen.

These are great shoes BUT they have a design flaw with the laces. The lace failure is the only reason I didn't give 5 stars. The laces shred after a few week's wear so that they no longer thread through the lace lock. I purchased 2 pairs of Arroyo IIs in the past 4 years because they are such great shoes, but each time I've had to call Keen to ask for a replacement set of laces. I've asked Keen to fix this design flaw because the original laces make for better fit than the replacement elastic laces. I carefully spend $100 for a pair of quality, rugged shoes. Keen should not tolerate this lace failure problem. If this happens to you, contact KEEN via phone. Their website/email process is slow, and they suggested I purchase a replacement pair which I would receive in 20 - 30 days. When I contact them by phone they are quick to respond and send me a free replacement pair that I will receive in a week. Again, GREAT RUGGED LONG-LASTING shoe, but the failing laces are a big problem.

Wanted to love these. Very well made, rugged, and attractive. Loved the enclosed heel. Definitely order a half size smaller. They just didn't fit my particular foot well and as much as I wanted to keep them I knew the fit issues would not resolve.

These look like great shoes, but beware if you have a narrow foot (like normal narrow)-these will be too big for you. I wear anywhere from a 7.5 to an 8.5. I got an 8 in these and my foot was swimming in every direction. Luckily, Zappos is amazing with returns!

Great shoe, I've had one pair of these for 6 years. However, the sizing is inconsistent. This shoe...even with my orthotics...is still too wide in the heel and the shoe slips. It's going back. I still think this is one of the most supportive and well-ventilated Keen shoe.

I ordered this shoe because I had hopes of the shoes helping my joint pain, and I have foot problems, they are a very nice shoe; however, the outside heel is very high and very hard, also the toe box is lower in the front and the top of the shoes rub on my foot which caused blisters, so I will continue looking for something that will work for me, I am very thankful for Zappos and their wonderful return policy.

I ordered my size and had to exchange them for a half size smaller. I've worn these shoes on a three mile walk in my neighborhood, and they felt great! However, on a five mile on steep, sometimes rocky trails, I got a blister on my right heel. On the next hike, the right heel was fine, but the left heel got a blister. I'm hoping that this is a break-in period. These shoes have excellent traction. I feel confident jumping onto rocks or going down steep hills.

As always, Keens a comfortable shoe. Laces not so stretchy so I can get them tighter than past Keens. A little tight on the tops of the toes, but I have to wear orthodic inserts with all my shoes. Good for walking, not so much for hiking over uneven terrain. My feet tend to slip around a bit inside the shoes. My next Keens will be ones I can lace to avoid that problem. I have been getting compliments from people on how nice they look.

I absolutely love these shoes. They are very comfortable and best of all they allow me to have my orthotic in them. However, they have a problem with the sole coming apart. The first pair I bought let go of the inside sole within the first month on both feet. I returned them and got a new pair. The new one let go the right shoe within the first week. Because I was on vacation and couldn't return them I took them to a shoe repair who glued them and it lasted one day. So I will not be buying these shoes again until Keen has fixed the glue issue.

I really wanted to love this shoe. The ventilation is great, the protection for your toes and heels is great! I loved that the insole was removable and would allow me to change them out for washing, and also that the tread was so substantial so I could wear them on the trail. That said, the arch was very strange. For some reason the outer edge of the arch was too high and actually hurt my foot! If you can imagine it, it felt as though I was standing on a hard ridge. I returned the shoes thinking it was a defect in the shoe, but no I got the same feeling. Because so many had stated the shoe runs a half size larger I then tried a smaller size to adjust the placement of the arch on my foot. No dice, it still hurt. I am left to keep looking and trying I guess, because this pair will be returned too. Thank you to Zappos for your wonderful return policy!

I bought these in the summer of 2011 for some low level hiking. They come in men's sizes but took me 2 returns to figure that out. Once I finally got the correct size, on the heel of one of the shoes the band that goes along the top was sewn too tight and it rubbed the worst blister on my heel. Since I had returned the shoe twice the next time I would have to pay for the shipping. I ended up nipping the seam on both shoes. Not really what I would expect to have to do for a shoe at this price but it worked and I have been wearing them ever since. I wear them in the winter too...when it's not raining or snowing since they are sandals. I can't believe how warm my feet are when it's 28 degrees out in my Keen's. They also have great arch support. I had plantar fasciitis and can't walk without good arch support now. We work a lot with Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts and they can't believe I wear sandals in the winter, but they are the perfect shoe for me. I will be buying more Keen's brand shoes, but I'll be sure to get the right size and make sure there are no defects in the shoes before I keep them.

I ordered this shoe at the end of summer, when I needed a sandal but also a light hiker for the coming autumn. The Arroyo seemed to fit the bill. With socks and without, the shoe is comfortable and, although I ordered my usual size and am fine with it, it does run a bit large so if you are between sizes you may want to size down. The only caveat is that the sole is slippery on wet surfaces. Others have mentioned it and after wearing the shoe for a few months I can attest to it. Use caution on wet, smooth surfaces. Other than that one disappointment, I've been very happy with the shoe.

I bought these shoes right before a trip where I anticipated doing some hiking. I wore them around the house, liked the big toe box and the vents on the side. What I didn't like was the insole linings. They rise at the arch on both sides of your foot. I don't know of anyone's feet that have arches that high. I replaced these with some athletic insoles and I love the shoe. There was no break in period. They look good and are easy to get on. I like the support and the air vents on both sides. I think Keene needs to improve their insole design.

I'm a huge Keen fan. We have had over two dozen pairs of keens in our family. This style has been our favorite. It's on it's third revision of this same model, by my estimate. The Arroyo II is not as well made as previous models, however. This pair is wider in the toebox, and the lace is not stretchy like previous models. It feels almost one whole size too big (my foot is slightly narrow). I can fit two fingers behind my heel and still have wiggle room, even with socks on. Arroyo II - you're going back! Thanks Zappos for your amazing service!

Got the Arroyo IIs a couple of weeks ago to help cool my feet during long, hot walks with my dog. There were many reviews indicating the lasts were small so step up a size. Coincidentally, Zappos had the only pair I could find online and it was a half size larger than my normal size so I ordered them. First, the shoes are gorgeous and architectural reflecting quality materials and constructions. Second, I'm not sure about the small last. The size 9 is just as loose as I'd expect a 9 to be except that the cinching mechanism allows the shoes to be tightened sufficient for trail walking. My normal size 8 1/2 would have been correct in my case. Third, possibly because these are a little long, more arch support would be preferred. I have very high arches and noticed the lack during a six mile hike. Having said that, I've walked six miles, a couple of two and four mile hikes and the shoes are very comfortable. I feel more air on my feet with these than with the Tevas. Interestingly, more trail debris enters these shoes, with the toe, than occurs with the Teva sandals.
I'd also recommend:
Teva sandals but especially Teva enclosed sneakers.

I had a pair of Keen hiking sandals that probably lasted ten years. The soles on those finally wore completely through. This pair was to replace that much loved and worn out pair. After only two seasons of wear, the back of the heel is completely worn through on both shoes. Instead of using leather or suede, a much softer (and more easily worn out) fabric is used. Since that part of the shoe gets heavy wear, due to rubbing against socks, it wears out much faster than the rest of the shoe, which is still in really good shape. For many kinds of shoes, two seasons might be considered good enough, but for hiking shoes, I really did expect to get at least five years, especially after my previous Keens which were closer to ten years.

I have had a lot of Keens. Maybe close to 30 or more. My kids keep stealing them so I buy me a new pair. This one seemed to run a bit big. I sent it back.

This is my 5th attempt to buy Keens only to find one major flaw, at least for my feet. I love the color and style of this shoe, inner sole is nice on foot and has good support at the outside of the shoe for someone like me who has a high arch and rolls outward when walking. However, for me, the shoe is cut too high on the outside under the ankle bone and cuts into it with every step, particularly on the left side. I compared this shoe with my Teva Omniums and there's a big difference in how high the two shoes are cut under the ankle bone. I'm very disappointed. People rave about Keens, but I've had no luck. Maybe they are just not right for my foot.

SO DISAPPOINTED!! This shoe fits perfect in the toe box area (I have bunions), I love the color...BUT...they slip down my heel with every step. The size is correct..the width is fine...proper amount of space between end of big toe. People rave about Keen's. But this is the 4th paid I have ordered that just didn't work and I had to return. I give up.

I really wanted to love these shoes, but no matter what size I get, my little toes catch on the hole closest to them. The size runs very big, as I normally wear an 8.5 in Keen Voyageurs and these I needed a 7.5. The 8 was better for my little toes, and could be doable, but it's still a little on the long side. I love the look, the arch support, everything but the hole placement.

These shoes fit well and have good support, however, they retain a great deal of heat. Unexpected in a sandal. I needed to wear thin socks because they rubbed my feet in a way that was uncomfortable. Putting the shoe on, they fit, so this may be a matter of having sensitive feet. I was surprised at how hot they got.

Love the function, love the fit (I have a wide forefoot, narrow heel and staight more then curved food) and I like some stiffness and arch support. Durablity? not so great? its been less than 3 months of 2-3 times a week wear, the soles are delaminating. Am going to try some shoe goo. But I am not pleased. NormallyI love Zappos. But in this case I wish I had purchased these are REI so I could return them.

I have wide feet, very high arches, and plantar fasciitis. I wear an 8.5 Wide Brooks Ghost 6 running shoe, for reference. These shoes run large. My last Keens were a 9 in a different style and I had sized up to get the width. In this shoe, I wear an 8 M. These shoes run wide. I usually have trouble finding anything that fits me in a medium width and often resort to mens shoes. I am very happy with the width but can see how they might be way too roomy for someone with a narrower foot. The toe box is especially wide. These shoes have moderate to good arch support. I have very high arches. This shoe is rated highly for arch support which is probably true if you have average arches. Not so much for those with really high arches. However, they allow for the use of your own orthotics, which has been great! These shoes are sweaty. Like most Keens, I find my foot sweats quite a bit against the footbed. Slightly less when I wear my own orthotic. These shoes are somewhat chunky but I am okay with that. They are definitely less chunky than an alternative style I was considering that was a Men's shoe. I have had plantar fasciitis for over a year and I have learned its good to wear a shoe which is slightly elevated in the heel, which these are. For my needs, which was to find a sporty shoe for outdoor activities that didn't require a sock and could get wet, and also actually fit my foot, this is working well. My only very minor complaint is that the laces don't stay tightened for long periods and I find myself re-adjusting them more than I like.

I loved this shoe and was really bummed that it didn't fit for me. I have an average width foot and it ran way to wide even when I tightened the laces. I ended up having to give up on it after a few tries in size. Great if you have a slightly wider foot though!
