Had to return these, although I had been looking forward to a good waterproof hiking shoe. I usually wear 8 or 8.5, so I tried both. 8 was just slightly too short (my toes hit the front a bit), so I bought the 8.5, which gave my toes lots of room. But no matter how tight I tied the laces at the top of the shoe, my heel slipped out when I walked. The heel seems slightly too wide for the rest of the shoe. Having to lace them tight at the top was a problem anyway because I didn't want to lace the shoes tight around my high instep, which just barely had room. Slippery laces, too--they did keep coming untied, as another reviewer mentioned. This is quite a stiff shoe, although not extremely heavy, and it seems well cushioned. I like the elevation provided by the relatively tall, rough, chunky sole, and the look is OK, but why are the women's colors in sportswear always so mediocre compared with the men's? I'm going to order a different waterproof Keen hiking shoe, hoping for better luck. FYI, I have another pair of lace-up Keens, the Presidio, and those are very comfortable and fit me great in a size 8. The sizing of this shoe is slightly different.
I'd also recommend:
Other Keens, Dansko, Saucony (good for wide feet, with nice snug heels).

Keen Targhee II, a well made shoe - I bought these for walking my dog Tony on icy sidewalks. Keeps feet super warm and dry. Laces tend to come untied, and the heel of the shoe is way too wide. Great traction, and very cute.

Just a wee bit close in the toe - Since these are the same size and make as my Providence boots I was hoping for the same fit. And it may turn out that way after they stretch out, but for now I am finding them a little close/short in the toe area. Otherwise I love them!

Wish these would have worked out - I REALLY like the large toe box on Keens but unfortunately, I had the same problem that some other reviewers experienced - the shoe was a bit too loose in the heel, and my heel would slip out with each step. Too bad, because this shoe felt great otherwise. However, I would not be able to hike for hours with a slipping shoe - getting blisters is too painful. Also, I always have to get a half size larger in Keens as they run short.

Keen needs to size more like other companies - I normally wear a size 9.5 - 10 but needed an 11 in this shoe. The heel of the 11 is a bit loose, but the 10.5 was too short. I like the looks of the shoe and have worn it for short walks, but I will not wear it for walks more than 3 miles. I do a lot of winter walking in icy/snowy conditions and was looking forward to the traction provided by this shoe, but am frustrated with the Keen sizing. Why do they make us guess whether their sizing is half or a full size smaller than most other brands? My old broken-down Merrill's will see more service this winter. I had to return the size 10.5 to get the size 11 and the service for the exchange From Zappos was excellent. My sub-optimal ratings are for Keen, not for Zappos.

A little snug, but good - I usually wear a 7, but I ordered a 7 1/2. That nearly cut off the circulation to my foot. So I sent that one back and ordered an 8. It was much better, but still really snug. I often didn't want to wear them, and I thought about returning those. But I went on a week-long hiking trip and took them with me. They did end up stretching out to a comfortable size, and now I like them a lot.

Huge fan of Keens - I did a lot of online research before buying this shoe. I have begun to do a lot of trail hiking and wanted a comfortable, sturdy shoe. I thought I would have given them an A++ rating until I took a 5 mile walk on pavement in them. For about the last mile, my feet started to tingle and ache a bit. I still wear and love them, but I think they are best suited for gravel and dirt.

Ready for hiking - I do feel like my feet are well-protected in these shoes. If it is possible to say that these feel 3/4 smaller than marked then that's better than just a half size. I wish Keen would not have discontinued some of the better colors of this very popular shoe.

Smaller than Size Advertised - I have lately always been getting size 11 shoes and they fit fine, or I fit better in a 10 1/2. But the minute I put these on in size 11 I knew they were too small - I was wearing thin socks (not hiking socks) and my tops immediately hit the front. Unfortunately they don't go past 11 so I'm out of luck!

Keen Targhee II - These are my first pair of Keens and after reading all the other reviews, I agree with them fully. The shoe was comfortable right out of the box but be sure to order at least a 1/2 size up. Great looking shoe too.

Great Shoe! I ordered the shoe a full size larger than I normally wear and it fits. The shoe laces do not stay tied and that's annoying. But they are just right for long walks. I'm happy to have them. They arrived one day after I ordered them! It was amazing.

Not satisfied yet... I'm a Keen junkie. I own 6 styles (at least). Some in multiple colors! The Sonoma (Fabulous!) Newport (Wear every single day as slippers in the house!) Bronx, Presidio and a few others through the years. Ordered this for day hiking with my kids. I have Plantar Fasciitis, wide feet, and high arches. These were very short in the toe box (but wide enough). Ordered 1/2 size up the first time (like I usually do with Keens), then ordered up another 1/2 the second time. Enough room the 2nd time, but the arch wasn't in the right place and feels like there's a lump in shoe. Will call to talk with a cust. service person to see if I should order another pair. (LOVE Zappos return policy!) Hope to find a hiker style soon...but will continue to order KEEN's from Zappos!!! I'm a lifer!

These were wayyy too big. Other reviewers and Zappos told me to go a half size up and I def should not have. Also, there was a weird seam in the toe box that absolutely would have given me blisters when hiking. I also have a high instep and need pretty decent arch support...didn’t get that here. Not a fan...kind of surprised by all the positive reviews.

Too big in the heel, had to rerun. If not for that I would have loved to keep them. Very well built aside from giant heel space!

These were very loose around the heel part. I prefer more heel and ankle support so I returned these shoes, and purchase the Targhee II hiking boots instead.

These are great shoes, but the way they are designed- your heel comes right out of the shoe. You can lace them up as tight as possible, but your heel will slip. This is why I am returning them - otherwise they area cute and functional shoe.

The fit of this hiking shoe felt like my feet were not "settled" in the shoe. It does have arch support, but didn't feel comfortable.

Been wearing this style of Keens forever but they recently changed the heel width and my heel slips of out them. So sad to have to return them. What's up Keen? Why did you change the heel width?!

Per the advice on the website, I bought one half size larger than I normally take (I normally take 8.5, so I ordered a 9). The shoes were way too big. I returned them.

Very stiff shoe. After just five minutes, and with my own arch supports inserted, my heels were hurting. Back they go. I did order up a half size like the other reviewers suggested.

I need a wide toe box but this was so wide I was unstable on uneven ground. Also if you have a narrow heel like me, Keens are not for you.

After wearing them around the house i had to return.I loved the look of these and they were kind of comfortable. My real issue was that they seemed heavy.

The first time I ordered these I got a pair of the Black Olive/Mineral Blue color in a box marked Magnet/Periwinkle. I had to return them and order them again. With the second pair the color of the picture on the website for the Magnet/Periwinkle are not even close to the actual shoe color. Shoes are fine, but the colors are significantly darker! Did Keen change the color and the website hasn't been updated?
