I gave these shoes a very thorough working over this last 6 months because I had field work for several hours a day throughout the week and these were my primary field shoes. Unfortunately, I was disappointed, though I think these may be okay for more casual hikers/day hikers. Cons: Not waterproof in the laces, so if you are walking through wet grass in a rainstorm, your feet will be wet. The soles are not very "grippy" so I feel unsteady on loose rock or wet surfaces. After 6 months of constant wear, these have broken in to my feet. I feel disconnected from my feet and unsteady, especially when I am off-train on steep slopes. This is especially uncomfortable on loose rock slopes where I feel like there is a large hunk of leather/plastic keeping me from climbing the way I want to. Little interior support. The leather dramatically changes after getting wet - my leather is splotchy, both the color and the texture (and I do clean them and properly dry them after rain!). Pro: Attractive. Good ankle support.

My feet have always put up with a cramped studio apartment. Now they spread out in their Keen 2 bedroom! Loads of room. Give them a week for stiff collar to soften. I'm very happy with them.

Followed advide and ordered a half size up. Nice, roomy fit with regular socks, and perfect fit with thick wool hiking socks.

Love, love, love these hiking boots. I wore them around the house for a bit and then walked the dog in them a few times to break them in. Wore them on a hike finally; loved the way they gripped the rocks. Super comfortable. At the suggestions of others, I bought a 1/2 size larger. Glad I did. Great boot!

I found the boots very comfortable. I was only wearing them in the house to keep them clean! but forgot I had them on and went outside for two hours before I realized I had broken my plan.

I bought these for a hiking trip to the Grand Canyon. I normally wear an 8-8.5. First, I ordered the 8...too small. When I tried on the 8.5, they felt perfect. However, while hiking down into the canyon, the temperature rose quite a bit, and as a result my feet started to swell. I ended up with blisters and lost 4 toenails. If I had to do it over again, I would have purchased a 9. Rookie mistake, I know. Other than my own sizing issues, this shoe has solid construction and great support.

These are wider than other Keen shoes like the Alamosa, so if others seem a bit narrow, try these instead! They are comfortable, and require little to no breaking in as advertised. They provide good arch and ankle support. Highly recommended! Definitely need to order a half-size to full size up (for me, a half-size up from my running shoes, or a full size up from dress/everyday shoes).

Love these boots! These are my first Keen's and I'm happy so far. Good arch support and very comfortable. I did get a 1/2 size bigger but wish I hadn't. These boots have been totally waterproof also.

I bought my boots three years ago, and they are still in great shape. I recently injured my foot, and these are the only shoes that allow me to walk comfortably all day long. I highly recommend them for city walking and trail hiking.

This boot was narrow. I have short, fat feet. A 5 normally leaves me extra room. The 5 was so narrow at my toes that my toes went numb even with the smartwool ultra light hiking sock. I returned them and was concerned that even going up a half a size would not give me enough width. Definitely go up a 1/2 size and if you have wide feet, try another style.

Love these boots. Bought them for hiking, wore them in snow and mud. Kept my feet warm and dry. Very comfortable, no break in time. I usually wear a 9, followed others recommendation and 9.5 fits perfect.

I ordered these shoes because I was looking for an "urban" hiking shoe - for people who spend a lot of time walking around in rain/slush/weekend outdoorsy activity etc. These shoes are actually excellent - they are comfortable and the right level of "rough" for an urban hiking shoe. My only discomfort was that they are quite wide on the toe on the outside. They give this impression of a very broad shoe. I decided to send them back because of aesthetics, but they were outstanding in comfort!

Trip to Peru in June. Thought I would need to break in my new trekking boots. I have worn them twice and they feel like I have worn them for a long time. Felt good the first day. Love these boots!

I love these boots. I went a half size up and the fit was perfect. There was no breaking-in time at all; I wore them on a 7-mile hike right after I got them and my feet were completely comfortable up and down the mountain trails. Thanks to small bunions I have trouble finding shoes that don't hurt, but these let me forget the bunions are there at all. Wish I could wear them with everything.

Why waltz when you can rock-n-roll! I have three pairs of Targhee boots. Some of the best I've ever owned. 4X4 for your feet with outstanding comfort. Worth every penny! An eyelet hook rivet came unanchored in a pair I had for a little over a year - Keen replaced the boots with no hassle, within four business days! They back their product and are obviously committed to great customer service. Now if only every other business in our great nation could follow Keen's lead.

I got these boots to walk my dog in boggy weather and they are so comfortable I bought a second pair as a spare for when/if these wear out. Great in snow and rain, and with Yak-Trax on them can even handle ice.

I spent a great deal of time tying these shoes. No matter how I laced them, they would untie. I don't think they ever made it over 75 feet without being retied. It was very annoying and since they were loose (or untied) so frequently, they keeled over and didn't wear well. Replace the laces straight away. The foot you save will be your own.

I absolutely love these shoes, except for the soft soles. My husband and I have each had two pairs . He walks normal and wears out his soles evenly, but quickly, but I over-pronate and wear out the outer edge of my sole, causing my ankles to roll outward. I have had a pair of Merrells for twice as long, and their Vibram sole has not had this issue. Because of this, with a heavy heart, I am reconsidering Keen. Other than that issue, I absolutely love these boots! I have a wide forefoot and absolutely love their wide toe box. For me there was no break in time required, they are super comfortable right out of the box. They are probably the most comfortable hiking shoes that I have ever owned. They felt like they were made for my feet. I originally wanted the low top version of these shoes, but my heel slipped out so went with the mids and did not experience any slippage. They do run small. I am normally a 7 in dress shoea or 7½ in athletic shoes. I ordered a 7½ in these and they were a little snug, so I went with an 8 and they fit perfectly!

I live in Southeast Alaska. I regularly hike in one of the deepest wettest rainforests in the world...crossing to ocean trails in the same day. I wear these boots every time. Perfect fit...wear tough...for all day hiking. Keep my feet warm and dry...no blisters after 6 hours. Will be getting more.

Perhaps I got a bum pair of these, judging from all the other reviews. I did find a review of the mens version that echoes my concerns, however. I have been a Keen customer for many years now, and I have loved every shoe and boot I have purchased. These boots are characteristically comfortable and attractive, but a good hiker they are not, unless conditions are perfectly dry. I found right away that if I stepped on even a slightly wet sidewalk, the ground started to slide beneath my feet. Forget about a wet rock or wet steep spot. They are still relatively new, so I thought that maybe the soles needed to be broken in a bit to wear off the smooth bottom. But today I sit here with an ice pack on my knee having just slipped on a rough small patch of ice that any other boots I own would have handled with ease. I live on the side of a mountain, so am no rookie at this. I consider these boots to be dangerous, and am questioning whether or not I should ever go for another pair of Keens, even shoes, if the soles are now going to be like this. Did they change materials for the soles? If so, bad idea.

I ordered these boots 1/2 size larger as suggested, and I am glad I did with wearing thick socks. I measured my feet with socks using a 12" ruler. That seems to work the best. I will repeat what others have said, I love these boots! I can take my 12 mile hikes without worrying about losing traction on the trail. I recently stomped through a creek and balanced myself walking across logs, which is no easy feat at 55 years young, and felt confident that I would not slip. The mid high collar keeps the water out. Best of all, my feet are no longer cold! I love them so much that I ordered a pair for a teenager. I know once she wears them and finds out her feet are no longer wet and cold that she will love them too! They are lightweight. No more heavy boots! No more blisters! No more sore feet!

I was in the market for a new pair of hikers. I hike occasionally but need a sturdy yet comfortable boot. This boot was recommended by two female park rangers. They wear them daily to work in. I have worn them several times to hike and they required zero breaking in and wear comfortably.

I have tried numerous hiking boots over the years -- these are the best! The sizing is generous so medium cushion socks work well. And when you are taking long hikes you want thick socks.
