No lost toenails with this gem! I've been running trails way before Nike made a shoe for it so I've made my way through some shoes. This is by far one of the best all around trail shoes out there. I had grown accustomed to stiff outsoles and basic support, when I tried these in the store I thought 'No WAY these will hold up, they are too 'squishy'!' Wow was I wrong. I've now logged over 100 miles in these and not only are they holding up, my heel pain has decreased and my toenails are not bruised for the first time in several years! The lacing system takes a while to get used to...trust me, start out tight; it will distribute about a half mile in. The beauty of it is that even on the rocky/steep downhill bombs my toes barely brushed the front of this shoe (true to size too). Other pluses - they drain fairly well (could be a little better) and the lateral stability is impressive considering the 'lose' feel. Did I mention the cushioning? I've added speed and miles with these babies and none the worse for wear. Get them! You won't be disappointed. By the way, I have a neutral to slightly underpronating foot with a narrow heel and forefoot and wider midfoot. Happy trails!

This must be my 20th pair of these! I wear them for hiking, walking, doing the elliptical, boxing and working with weights. The only thing I haven't liked is the dull boring colors. But now they have pretty fun colors and I just bought 4 more! I have very flat feet and wear orthotics in these. The shoe itself is very sturdy and has great support.

Love both my XA Pro 3D and XA Comp 2 - This is my second pair of XA Pro 3Ds. Great for hiking and running/trail running. Nice wide bottom sole for stability. I have high arches and they provide great support. I also have a pair of XA Comp 2 and love them as well but wear them more for an everyday shoe than when running or hiking. Zappos is so customer friendly. I'd buy everything from them if I could.

I got these after trying so many different types of shoes for my all day standing and running around Nurse job. My feet always hurt by the end of the day, I've tried Dansko, Alegria, Skechers, KSwiss, Crocs, Converse, and countless others. I poured over reviews here on Zappos and finally decided to go ahead and spend the money and grab these shoes. I've had them about a month and while I'm not quite ready to say these are the shoes to buy, I'm very impressed with them. Amazing arch support, that I really never realized I wasn't getting until I put these shoes on and my foot instantly felt the arch support. They do weigh more than the average shoe you might pick out for walking, standing and running around all day, but it actually seems to make the shoe better, maybe I feel more sturdy in them. I really love the no shoe lace pull string thingy, very convenient and stylish. The color is kind of a weird teal-green blue color - I like it but its not quite the color in the picture, it almost matches most of my scrubs but it's a shade off of most normal blues/greens. I really like the hard rubber toe at the front, very durable and not easily scuffed. I would buy another pair if they came in more colors.

I had a pair of these in the past. They were a size 9. I kept the size nine because the 9.5 were huge and I mean HUGE. I normally wear a 9.5 - 10 and in Salomon I’ve always worn a 9.5. This time I ordered two pair of these (9 & 9.5). The 9’s were a bit short but the 9.5 fit perfect! I find it odd that before, the 9 fit and the 9.5 were huge. My feet have not changed. I don’t know what the deal is about the sizing. I wear these shoes for trail running and for hiking. They hold up well, are stable, Have good support, and are comfortable. I would buy them again barring the size issue.

Does what it's designed to do & looks great (some colors) My last 4 pairs of running shoes were Salomons XA Pro 3D, they are the most comfortable shoe I've found. When I started running trails a few years ago I tried every shoe I could find to fit my average sized; width B & length 8.5 (for a USA Woman that is) feet, but to no avail. This shoe's arch support and forefoot area are just in the right place for me. When running down a long trail, the quick ease of tightening the laces to hold my foot back so my toes don't touch the toe box are wonderfully simple, or to loosen them is a breeze. The way you can tuck the laces in the pocket is clever, I even store the two keys for my jeep in there by sliding my key ring through the laces and tucking them in and out of the way in the pocket. The traction, and foot support on a slippery, rocky hill surprise me most of all. It flexes, and is firm when needed. Here in So Cal the heat is a factor, so with thin socks, this shoe keeps my feet from over heating. Stream crossings are no problem, the shoe dries fast. With so much breathability comes with dirty socks. My only suggestion on improvement is a little longer and more durable lace pocket, but that request stems from using the shoe a just little different than what it was designed for. Other than that, the shoe is great! I’d like to thank Zappos for the incredibly fast and friendly service. As for the questionnaire, about the length and width, I believe the shoe is designed to accommodate the foot on a trail situation, so for it to feel a little wider in the toe or a little longer doesn't make it for a sloppy ride. My feet stay secure.

The grey color is beautiful, but they just weren't comfortable for me. The arch felt too firm and didn't fill the whole arch area. The outer edge of the shoe is very firm and caused discomfort along the lateral edge of my right foot. The sole is very narrow and it felt like there wasn't sufficient sole support and cushion under the medial arch. Very sad to return these.

I like Salomon Hiking Shoes but can never tell what will fit. I bought these and another pair. These were too tight in the arch and on the sides of the foot. Best for a low arch narrow foot maybe. They were also quite stiff. I have a wide size 7 foot with short toes and I have returned these.

These are much sleeker and lighter than the last model without losing support! I wish they came in different colors- all white would be cool. I love the laces and the arch support especially!

I have only worn these super shoes around town, but they rock! Normally, due to bunions and rather flat feet, I’m uncomfortable in other shoes after a couple of hours. Great support. Love the laces. Solomon makes quality products.

These might be not just the most comfortable hiking shoes/boots I've ever owned, but the most comfortable shoes, period, I've ever owned. I didn't end up ordering these on Zappos because I needed them really last minute and they were out of my size, but let's just assume that the experience with Zappos would have been great as usual. I got these before a trip to Italy that included some hiking. I wanted something sturdy but not too bulky so that I could wear them with jeans on days when we were traveling between cities and I didn't want to cram them into my suitcase. They were perfect for that and great for the hiking. I wore them on some local packed dirt trails a few times before the trip, but there wasn't really any breaking in period. I have low arches but opted to wear these without an additional arch support because they were so comfortable. I expected to regret that decision but after a 9.5 mile hike in Cinque Terre, my feet felt great at the end of the day--no blisters, no soreness. I typically wear between a 9.5-10 so I got these in a 10 and bought some quality hiking socks, and it's a perfect fit.

Wow, is all I can say about these shoes. I walk 4 miles four times a week and circuit train 3 days, and these shoes have been wonderful. Once you get used to the slide that you use to tighten and loosen them, it is a snap to get them on and off. They are so light and add a spring to my step. I have arch problems from time to time, and I have not had any trouble at all from these shoes.

I HAVE HAD MANY FOOT SURGERIES . THESE ARE WONDERFUL. I ORDERED A 9 1/2 COULD HAVE USED A 9 OR MAYBE EVEN 8 1/2. BUT WILL KEEP BECAUSE FEET SWELL. WILL ALSO ORDER SMALLER SIZE!

Love the shoe, but I first ordered an 8 per measurements, but it was at least 1 inch to long, went to a 7 it is to short but the arch support is great but the top of the shoe is to tight to allow for my high instep I hope the 7 1/2 works!

These are my 3rd pair of Salomons, so needless to say, I love them. The style and fit are right on par. I would highly recommend.

I have size 12 feet. These are good shoes for smaller sizes, but they just felt very bulky at my size. I didn’t like how huge my feet felt and looked. I hate to admit it, but vI would have been too self conscious in them.
