J&M shoes are my preferred option.

These shoes are fantastic. I wear them everyday. They do need a short breakin period, maybe one week or so. They have become my go to shoes for work.

I'm not one to write reviews on products, but I feel compelled to do so for the Melton shoe. I'm in a profession that requires me to wear formal attire and suits everyday to work, and also to move around quite a bit. I've worn Meltons now for the past 8 years, after having worn a variety of other brands that proved to be disappointing. In terms of looks, the Melton has a simple elegance about them. No over-the-top design elements or unnecessary lines - just a classy, beautiful, seamless design. I wear a size 9.5 eee, so the fact that these comes in different widths makes them especially attractive to the other alternatives on the market. As for durability, the current pair I have now are on their 6th year. I just re-sole them about every 8-10 months, and they're good as new! I currently have the black pair, but I previously owned the veal color, and those go great with any color suit. Finally, I have to say that they are really comfortable. I wear them 5 days a week, 10 hours a day, and to church on Sunday, and my feet don't feel tired or ache at the end of the day. I do use inserts to help with the cushioning, but I feel the arch support of these shoes are really top notch. Two big thumbs up for the Meltons - please don't stop making these!

Classic style with leather lined comfort. Hard to beat. Easy to maintain shine.

I bought these 7 years ago, have worn them an average of 3 days a week, went through military training with these shoes (marching for miles), been through winters in Chicago and Colorado, still these shoes look and feel great. 3 things you must do: 1) Polish, 2) Use Shoe Trees, 3) Have the soles refurbished by J&M when it's time (these have been through it twice). I hope my next pair lasts me this long.

I love the comfort level and the optima support system. Very easy to clean and polish. But there are these creases that i can't get out i do have shoe trees but doesnt seem to help with that problem. Other then that i would diffentley buy these again

Shoes felt perfect with no break in

I've had several pairs of Meltons over the past 10 years in multiple colors. They are great dress shoes for work--well made, very comfortable, and a classic style. I would (and have) recommend(ed) them to friends.

I'm on my fourth pair of these. They last me 3-4 years, which compared to other shoes (used to last about a year) actually makes them comparatively inexpensive.

I needed a new pair of shoes for my wedding, and I shopped around for quite a while, trying several brands. I chose the J&M's, and have loved them. I use them all of the time at work and traveling.

I am interested in shoes that last and can be polished to a high shine. These meets those criteria.

Appreciative of the availablity of narrow widths

I own the black and burgundy that I wear weekly alternating the two. The shoes are very versatile in that they can be worn with business casual wear or with a suit and finishes nicely. They can also be worn for long periods without my feet getting tired. The design is a timeless classic with an excellent exterior finish that holds the shine. A must have for men who like to dress nicely.

This must be my 8th pair of Johnston & Murphy. All leather, refurbishable, narrow widths, amazing support, super comfort. I'm a big guy, (an athlete). I weigh 230 lbs. This is a stable platform. I wear them all day. Nothing compares. I've tried to spend less money, but have always been disappointed. I keep coming back to Johnston & Murphy. Nothing comes close!
