I have grown to like my Keens, but took a little breaking in time. I have sensitive feet, and at first this shoe rubbed some blisters on the sides of my feet where straps met the footbed. But after awhile this effect subsided. Overall I'm happy with them now, and really like the cushioning and roomy toe bed.

Keen... so... well... keen. I was skeptical about buying a pair of sandals at this price, but if it meant comfort for the summer, I figured I'd give them a shot. They are very comfortable and I love the fact that you can machine-wash them! They're not the best-looking shoes on the market, but definitely better than Crocs! My only gripe is the price tag, but I guess the comfort-factor outweighs the $$.

Reviewed at L.L. Bean
I like the stying of these sandals very much and they are very high quality. I've had them for over a year and they have held up very well. However, there are some drawbacks: First, they're expensive. Second, they are heavy and uncomfortable if you wear them for a long period of time. I made the mistake of wearing them to Disney one day and my feet were killing me after 4 or 5 hours of walking. Lastly, if you get anything stuck in the sandal (like a small pebble), it will manage to get stuck in the front of the sandal, requiring that you take the sandal off. Not a big deal, but it can be a hassle.

Outstanding all around product - I wore this shoe for 4 months from desert to jungle, mountains and beaches, through rivers and in the ocean, over rocks and through dense underbrush. The comfort and durability can't be beat. You can wear them constantly for days on end without blisters, odor, or damage. The only thing that keeps it from being perfect is the closed toe. I prefer the close toe for times when you can't always see what you are stepping on or through and you don't want to bang a toe but one MINOR drawback is that it does tend to trap small stones or sticks in the shoe and you have to slip it off to empty it out more often. But, seriously, that makes the shoe an A or A- instead of a stellar A+.

Comfortable street shoe, but not for trail. This sandal has good arch support, plenty of cushioning, stiff sole, comfortable footbed material, high quality materials, and flawless construction. However, traction on trails and wet rocks is very poor. Additionally, debris from the trail continually finds its way inside the shoe and its nearly impossible to get it out without taking off the shoe. A real pain in the neck.

Eight days in Italy - I bought the Keen Newport sandals because they looked to be built like the proverbial 'Brick S... House.' I wanted a sandal with sturdy adjustable upper and solid sole supporting arch. They did not disappoint! We hiked the hills of Assisi and Siena, the streets of Florence, and the Forum in Rome. I found them most comfortable when worn with my Smart Wool socks for a full day of heavy walking. Without socks one day I did get some minor blistering. All in all; they ain't pretty but worked very well.

Tough Trooper of a Sandal - After an unusually horrendous experience with my last Teva purchase I opted to try out Keen's line-up. I've now had my Keen Newport’s for over two years and they're still holding up strong and remain a VERY comfortable shoe. Keens are cool (and comfortable). They are also excellent for canoeing and river running excursions.

I Stink - Unfortunately, I have a seasonal foot odor & the toe guard does not breathe enough for me. Oddly there is an odor reducing innersole, but this seems to rub off as the moisture builds. Too bad, I really like the Keen line.

I bought them for outdoor activities like canoeing. I thought that the enclosed toe and waterproof features would be nice to have but, they seem to make my feet noticeably sweaty. I think they look great and are very comfortable otherwise.

Great for Gardening! I ordered this shoe thinking I would use it for walking, but have found it wonderful to wear in the garden. It is very comfortable. Much cooer that wearing sneakers. The fact that it is totally washable makes it perfect for wearing in the garden. It is not, however, an attractive shoe. I wouldn't wear it anywhere other than an outdoor activity. I have a wide foot and this shoe is very comfortable for me.

I wish it came in wide - I have extra wide feet (11EEEE usually). I have a hard time finding shoes that really fit but these looked so cool and actually looked wider than average so I decided to take a chance. I ordered 11 and 1/2 since they were listed as medium width. I wish I had ordered a 12, i.e. a full size larger. I would advise any other Bigfoot Fellas to do the same.

Super comfy and waterproof - I love the look and feel of my Keens. Although my girlfriend doesn't think they are attractive, I get tons of compliments from others. I wear them hiking, fishing, to work, and everywhere else. The only complaint as you may read in other posts is that debris gets caught in them as you walk on trails. Otherwise, they are great. They do stretch about a half size larger than when I bought them, too.

Sturdier--but warmer--than Newport H2 - This is my second pair of Keens. I was looking for something more shoe-like because the Newport tends to fill up with twigs and rocks and sand. (They're also easy to empty, though.) The mesh-covered Keens have apparently been discontinued, so I upgraded from the Newport H2 to the Newport. The Newport looks a little nicer, and construction and materials are much more substantial than in the H2, but the Newport's also noticeably warmer. It has an antimicrobial footbed like the H2, but it's a more porous material in this shoe, and seems to take longer to dry. (I used to rinse my H2's off in the shower once in awhile.) Still, the Newport's the best general-purpose shoe I've come across for ventilation and long-term availability.

Very comfortable but.... Ok, what's up with my title you're wondering. First, I love these sandles. At first I thought they were geeky looking (they are) but they are the most comfortable sandles I've ever worn. To me, Teva's are a distant 10th in comfort compared to these, and I wear them every chance I get. The problem is that for a "water sandle" they aren't very good on slippery surfaces. As a matter of fact, they scare me and they're too slick and have no stick. This summer I almost fell several times on rocks that other people were stepping on without trouble. This was not limited to one location or time; they do not grip well when wet. Period. Perhaps the rubber is too hard, I don't know, but they are not shoes I want to rely upon around slick surfaces. Get the salomon water shoes if you need great grip. I have them too (salomons) and while they're not as comfortable as the Keane's, they certainly don't leave me wondering if I'm going down in the water). Summary - Get these for fabulous comfort, but don't bet your life on their traction in wet (actually dry too) condtions.

Keens are Keen! Great looking shoe with a lot of verstility - I especially like a practical & stylish footwear design. This shoe fits that to a tee. I did notice it took about 2 weeks before my feet stopped getting binding blisters from the sandel but once they got adjusted the Newport was comfortable and easy on the ankles and soles. Highly recommend this brand and its solid, water proof footgear!

Raises the bar? A reliable Teva customer with 5 pairs behind me, this sandal persuaded me to change. I was taken by the look, waterproof leather, and bacteria-free treated insides. My Newports --still new-- don't ventilate the toe area as I expected resulting in heat build-up and perspiration. I was surprised at noticing a smell emanating from their direction when I took them off the other day after normal urban usage. I wonder what they'd be like after sloughing it in a stream or sea water? I'm also of two minds about the fastening feature: first, the nature of the elastic lace is such that you can only achieve so much tightening (this can be a problem if your sandal is a tad loose) and second, the dangling loop that results after tightening up the sandal is a bit --how to put it?-- flimsy for 'tough' footwear (I can imagine snagging the loop on something during an active walk in the bush or stream. On the other hand, these Newports cover the foot with more material than do Teva's which leave the foot exposed to sharp stuff on a walk. I'm not convinced these Keens raise the bar above Teva's products. That said, I'm not unhappy with my purchase.

Newport - In general, I am pretty pleased with my Newport's. I think they are a really well-designed and well-conceived shoe. It took me a few days of wearing them to get them to loosen up and feel comfortable. I ended going with a size 8, even though I usually wear a 7.5. My one question about my Newport's is whether the right one is slightly larger than the left. It tends to slip around and if I don't have it tightened just right, gives me a blister where the strap rests on the back of my foot. One reality about these shoes: Even though they are sandals, they still get hot on your feet. Now, it may be that I have one foot bigger than the other. Or it may be that there is a slight defect. I'm able to adjust for this, however, by cinching up the right one tighter than the left (there's more slack on the pull-tie, so I know there's a difference in either my foot or the shoe itself). As for Zappos, the service was excellent - so much so that I ordered my husband a pair, too. I'll do more shoe shopping here in the future.

Keen Newport - My only complaint about these shoes is the footbed feels a little rough to my feet, maybe they'll feel better after I wear them a few more times. Well, one more thing, trash and dirt that gets into the shoe won't come out (because of the enclosed toes) unless you take them off and tap it out.

A small adjustment will make this perfect - Keen's Newport is good looking shoes. Good arch support for a sandal. The molding on the sole could be moved back a 1/2 inch. The size runs a half size to a full size smaller. Otherwise a great shoe.

Very happy with the Keen Newport. The Keen Newport is the most comfortable footwear I have ever had on my feet. Although I think they're a little pricey, they are still worth the cost given the comfort and quality construction.

Perfect sandle? This is my third pair of Keens. Each one is as comfortable as the next. Great pair of shoes and dare I venture to say, with the protective toe, the perfect sandle.

Early, but great so far. I'm always a bit leery of sandals for there ability to stub your toes. The toe on the Keen prevents that nicely. The footbed is anatomically correct and cush enough to support light hiking. The jury's out on the lacing. The elastic nature prevents the laces from flowing freely resulting in either fuss or tight spots. Otherwise comfort, fit, look, and, of course, Zappos customer service all top notch!
