I purchased these sandals to replace my old Birkenstocks which look worn and sloppy. The Mephistos are great looking and much trimmer, fitting my narrow foot much nicer. The only problem I have is that after walking for any length of time, the tops of my feet become sore and bruised from the straps. They leave no blisters though and the bed of the shoe provides wonderful support and cushioning. I hope that continued wear will work out this problem.

Finally, good support! Because I have plantar fasciitis in my left foot, I have been looking for a sandal with good arch support. Finally, I think I have found it. I can wear these almost all day. The only drawback for me (and the reason I did not give this shoe 5 stars) is that the strap across my foot is too tight, but too loose when I go to the next hole. I am hoping the leather will stretch.

Comfortable but too narrow - I've worn the Hannel style in the Mephisto cork sandal for many years. I wanted to Helen to mix it up a bit. The Helen does seem narrower. I wear an 8 1/2 M and in Hannel wear the size 39. I ordered the 39 Helen but have decided to return it. I may try the 40, although the length is fine on the 39. Mephisto cork sandals are extremely comfortable. They have additional cushioning that you just don't get with Birkenstock. Love, love, love.

Favorite Shoe - I have four pairs of Helen and love them all! I have heel spurs and am not supposed to wear sandals at all but I never have any problems when I wear Mephistos. I have at least 15 pair and Helen is probably my favorite.

Usually comfortable - Birks never worked for me because I have a narrower foot with high arch and instep. I have these in black patent and red nubuck and the black patent pair is my very favorite to dress up an everyday outfit as I'm running around the city. However, I've had the red nubuck pair for going on three years and every time I wear it, it literally rubs the top of my foot raw and I can't wear shoes again for days. I keep thinking this will stop, but the leather is too soft for me to loosen the buckle-- my foot would fall out. The nubuck is almost too soft to hold my foot onto the sandal, but rough enough to rub the skin off. Just a word of caution because the stiffer leather (strangely) has proved to be much easier to walk in and much more comfortable! I wear a 38 in these and I am a true 7.5.

Great arch support, comfy, but fits small! Since moving to Florida and living in cheap sandals, I have now become a "flat foot". Not good. On the 'kudos' of a friend, I heard these are the crème de la crème of comfort and arch support. I as a true size 9, ordered a 9, no way, too small. Zappos makes it ridiculously easy to swap out, so that's never a concern. Now I have the 10's and I was a little concerned that they are not wide enough. I think you just have to get used to them. The footbed is concave and has sloped walls, so you lose a lot of "space" to them. But really, isn't that what I was looking for...more support? My arches are presently perplexed and are a little sore...I think that's a good thing! Rebuild! So yes, I recommend these shoes, but, go a full size larger and give 'em some time... your feet will thank you!!!

Great sandal - Most comfortable sandals ever--I have had 4 pair over the years. Great arch support allows you to walk miles without thinking about your feet. Only slightly better-looking than Birkenstocks, but comfort and fashion rarely go hand-in-hand when it comes to shoes.

Very comfortable - I live in NY and walk everywhere. I decided to invest in a sandal that will not blister my feet or cause foot pain. This shoe is it! They were comfortable right out of the box, although it took a couple of wearings before I was used to them. They are heavier than my usual sandals, but very supportive and comfortable. They are not the most attractive shoes, but good with jeans and casual wear. I wouldn't wear these to the office, unless it was something extremely casual (and I usually dress casually). I bought these shoes for comfort, and they really deliver! I ordered a size larger than I usually do, and they were perfect.

The description says to order a size up but that's not necessary. I normally wear an 8.5 but 38 fits lengthwise in this shoe. They're a little narrow, but I often need a C width. They're comfortable, but not comfortable enough to be walking and standing all day.

Can't seem to adjust the right shoe to fit my foot properly, it irritates me were the buckle touches my foot. The color isn't truly black, it appears charcoal grey or even a dirty navy blue.

From a heel spur sufferer - I bought a pair of Mephisto Mobil’s slip on sandals last summer and found they were the only shoes other than tennies that I could wear all day and not end up in discomfort/pain. I had very high hopes for these as well. While I don't end the day hurting, I do wake up in the morning with some soreness in my feet. I am, however, continuing to wear them, and enjoy them, and hope that if I get back into doing the exercises I'll feel better. So I guess I'd give them a qualified yes.

The Perfect Sole - The soles of these sandals are heavenly! They're soft, but supportive, and quickly form to the shape of your foot. Plus, they DON'T STICK to the bottom of your foot. I'm still getting used to the strap rubbing across my second toe, but am determined to conquer this small annoyance because the bottoms feel so good.

These shoes were comfortable first try but my little toes were rubbing on the lip of the side of the shoe, was afraid to keep them for the price if they never broke in. Otherwise they would be good, Mephisto needs to make them more flat, get rid of the deep lip around the edges. I also ordered the 40 previously then ordered the 41 which fit better, did have to go up a size. Still, that stupid lip edge!

Mephisto Helen - Great ordering from Zappos, very quick delivery. The reviews really helped my decision on purchasing. The local store did not have the color I wanted, so ordered from Zappos for the first time. Shoe is very comfortable, they did wear a spot on my toe as others have reported, until they were broken in. Also they are a little wider than my skinny foot. But they are very comfortable, the arch is marvelous and I can't feel my neuroma!

Very Stylish or Mephisto's - I typically haven't worn Mephisto's because although they are comfortable and good for your feet, they just weren't cute. These are! I have the black patent leather and the beige nubuck. Based on the other reviews I bought a size larger. They are still a little narrow at the toes. I am concerned that this will affect my ability to walk long distances. We will see.

Great support - These shoes feel wonderful!! They really conform to your feet well.

Keeps eating my feet! My Mephisto Helens are really comfy, but the toe piece has eaten a hole in my big toe 2 times in the past 2 months! When it happened the first time I wore them, I thought it was a break in thing ... but when it happened again, I was frustrated. I love Mephisto shoes but I regret getting the Helen. I should have purchased the Heidi!

These sandals are very comfortable. Good arch support. The gold metallic leather is a little stiff. I am very glad I got them. They go with everything.

I am usually an 8, but had to return mine for a 9. Overall look is cute. I don't consider myself to have a wide foot, but this shoe fits a little narrow. My last 2 toes hit the lip of the side. But overall, I think they are comfy and stylish. I chose the khaki and love the color!

Mephisto Helen - Thanks to the Zappo terrific customer service I was able to buy a pair of Mephisto sandals. It took a lot of effort however, as I had to send back 3 pairs and am keeping the 4th. I know my size but all the different colors (red waxy leather, red patent leather, camel waxy leather and light beige nubuck fit differently in the same size. They were either made in France or in Portugal so that might account for the irregularity. I am keeping the best of the bunch but still find the piece between the toes on one foot digs in. I love the look though, and am glad I was able to return the others easily.

Funky and comfy - Helen is a great shoe. I am a long time Birk fan and find that the Mephistos are more supportive--and I was psyched to finf them in fashion forward colors. I got the silver and they are hot--people are stopping me on the street and asking me where I got them. I originally tried on the pink and I have to admit that the pink was more comfortable. The leather on the silver is very hard, I think because it's the way it was dyed, and they take a bit to break in. I love them and recommed them to anyone.

Bought for walking - Ordered these shoes at the suggestion of a friend and love the look and feel. Did take a few times to comform to my foot but wear them all the time now.
