Although I've been longing for the Timp 2 since it went extinct, I have come to accept the newer renditions are just a bit of a different creature - and a great one at that. The 5s don't disappoint and are an improvement over the 4, in terms of responsiveness and tread. As some reviews remarked, they do feel a bit narrower than the 4s, but only ever so slightly so, and still a wider shoe that's accommodating to a foot shape. Overall I love them and lean on them for more technical trail runs, primarily.

Use them as hiking and backpacking shoes, 3-4 days of light use to break them in, than a 3 day backpacking trip with substantial load, few days later a SAR trip, and a day hike. Great shoes. No hot spots, great room for my wide feet and toes and nice support. I usually wear boots with my heavy pack so was pleasantly surprised. Seem little tight first through the middle of my feet first, especially around the top, but went away after couple days of light wear. Only issue is the loop on the back. Could be slightly bigger to allow a finger to go through, would allow shoes to be put on a lot easier.

This is my 3rd Timp model. It can handle anything from short rehab jogs to super technical 50k runs. No reason to try a different shoe, the Timp is it!

I use them mainly for work but am on concrete and dirt both a lot. I have a couple of pairs of the Timp 4 and love them. I have custom orthotics that fit well. Part of the reason for this Altra model. I have almost blow out 1 pair of Timp 4s but will wear them until they are dead! Great shoes!!! Great cushion!!!

I have been running for 56 years. I have seen the development of all shoes from all brands. For me, the Timp 5 is one of the best shoes I have ever used. It just feels like running. It feels like hitting the trails. I know other runners have had issues with the Timp series, but for me, this is just an excellent shoe.

May be the most comfortable shoe I've owned. 3-8 mile daily hike/trail runs and the shoes are holding up well and are a pleasure to wear. I'm more of a diesel than a gasser and these shoes hold up to the 260lb thrashing I give them regularly here in the wilds of Montana. Bottom line quality, comfort, and Altra has great customer service.

I keep coming back to the Timp again and again. This version is fantastic! It feel light, the cushioning is sufficient to smooth out even on the gnarly stuff and the shoe is comfortable overall.

This version of the Timp is so good. I am a huge fan of Altra and a huge fan of the Timp shoe over the years. I've been running in them since the 1.5, and the updates with the version are the biggest improvement yet. Favorite feature is the Vibram sole - awesome. Great grip, great mud shedding, durability is awesome so far. Happy to see a Vibram on the Timp I hope they keep using it for years to come. Midsole took a few days to break in, feels great now. Upper is bomber and super comfortable. Couple hundred miles in and no complaints at all

These are my first pair of high rise padded shoes and I don't find them to be as awkward as I suspected. I had all but stopped running because of joint pain, but these have me logging along and running miles and enjoying them both

8 pairs later, I really enjoyed the Timp 4, but the tongue always killed me on how it would slip down. For me that problem is gone with the Timp 5. However, with that, I am still working through some rubbing spots from the tongue on the Timp 5. I have a very narrow foot and I could see how others are saying they might be too narrow. I think the shoe could be a bit wider through the middle of the shoe. If you previously worn the Timp 4, I would still absolutely recommend trying the Timp 5. Overall, the shoe feels great, and I think once I get them broken in a bit more, they will feel amazing.

I'm in sales so I'm walking 2-3 miles a day or more in all kinds of weather. This shoe has great traction, looks great and it's very comfortable. I also like to hike and I have no doubt this product will be great to wear on the trail.

Excellent updates and thank you for finally using vibram! These feel great so far and light, I upsized half and they fit just about perfect with thumb width in front. I think true to size would feel a bit tight and uncomfortable on downhills. I'm true to size in LP6 with same amount of room up front. I think upper could be improved with a less harsh feeling fabric on the top of toes but that's nitpicking.. with the socks I usually wear it's a non issue and I imagine they will break in more.

I always wear a 12 but had to reorder a 12.5. The new size fit perfect right out of the box and I went directly to the trail with no problems. Have only had them about a month and put right at 200 miles on them! Still wearing fine. The bigger size accommodated my thicker socks well!! ( size 12.5 fits like a 12)

I did have to size up 1/2 size as they seem to be slightly more narrow than other models. Have hiked dirt, mud, pavement, underwater, rocky, smooth, etc. and haven't had a single issue.

Altra definitely got it right with this product. The Vibram outsole is awesome (Lone Peak upgrade would also be fantastic with this) and the midsole material has great return on the trailsnot too soft but just the right amount of firmness. I wasn't a fan of the Timp 4, but Altra got it right this time. A little less volume especially in the upper but as I have warn these more and more the volume seems to be improving around my feet. Great heel lock, too, though if I got too tight, it gets painful along the top of my foot. Lacelock seemed to actually help as it placed the tension over a wider area further up my feet. Wish this was available with the Original footshape fit but otherwise a very good shoe.

Super impressed by the updates. I have about 20 miles on my pair and am loving them! The addition of Vibram for the outsole & more durable upper are both welcome changes from the 4. Excited to see where they take me next!

These shoes are so comfortable. I have went on a lot of walks with them and they do not pinch my feet at all. They are very breathable and I did not even need to break them in. They do not slip on the wet surfaces outside. These are highly recommended!

I did order the shoes a half size bigger than I normally wear because I heard this brand runs a little bit small. I'm glad I did. They are perfect. A half size bigger. They are extremely comfortable and I have tested them on the hiking trails near me and I would highly recommend these to anyone else. I did get the product for free in exchange for writing the review. But that does not change my opinion of these shoes.
