Been running in Timps for years. These are EXTREMELY stiff! No give in the toe box, weird creases, & the tongue is a downgrade. Problems waiting to happen with blisters and rubbing.

The mesh upper on this shoe is super stiff, and with the rubber across the toe it creases deeply right across the tops of the toes so they rub the tops of the toes with every single step. Very uncomfortable and completely unwearable. The width in the toebox also felt narrower than my other Altras (Escalantes and Fwd Experiences) to the point of my pinky toes rubbing the inside of the shoe.

I left a previous review for these shoes and gave them 5 stars because they were so comfortable. Sadly after 6 months they've already started to fall apart and haven't held up with what I'd expect for the cost. They're still comfortable but I wouldn't tell other people to buy them just because they aren't durable at all. The first hike I wore them the plastic layer around the toes started to peel off. Which was disappointing to say the least. I'd recommend other brands that are more durable, these aren't it.

Long time TIMP wearer, glad to see the tounge back, but the shorter laces and toe boxes caused blisters for the first time in my Altra wearing history. Pinky toes, and not Enough lace to really adj.

Toe box and across laces feels incredibly tight. I've been wearing Altea for years and these are by far my least favorite. I loved the color and the cushion and wanted to love these. Incredibly uncomfortable and gave blisters on trail.

I bought this b/c of the standard FootShape & Vibram Sole. Feels small b/c the hard mesh does not stretch. I solved this by inserting a very thin insole. The laces were different lengths. Again, easy fix. The glue let loose on my first run, again solved with shoe goo. The gaiter loop on left shoe is sewn so tight it won't flip back towards my ankle. Now about 75-100 miles on them they are falling apart around the ankle where they rub. These shoes have potential but the junk materials except for Vibram sole are worthless. I am now reaching out to Altra, but I certainly do not want another junk replacement pair. Just happy I had a discount code and I didn't pay full price.

I've been wearing Timps for years and each version I've been pleasantly surprised with each improvement. These broke my heart. I first bought my size I've worn for years at the store, toes smashed the end when I ran. Went online and bought a bigger size, better in the toe box but now my heel was moving all around. They constantly loosen while running and the loop at the back why? Why make it so small that only a pinky finger can go through? Disappointing overall. Only improvement was the tread (my Timp 4 broke down quickly) but I will never know because now these will sit because they aren't worth the discomfort to ever put full miles on them. Why Altra?

I loved my previous versions of the Timps! 4 was my favorite and I was so looking forward to the upgrade of the 5's. They immediately felt much more narrow, but figured they would break in and soften up. The height of the shoe around the ankle bone must have changed bc it dug in enough to chafe and draw blood. I had to return them. I did like the upgraded lugs though. Maybe the 6 will be great?

I purchased a pair of Timps and Lone peaks. Timps were so narrow and a size too small compared to the lone peaks. Purchased 9.5size for both.

I REALLY wanted to love the upgrades: full Vibram outsole, firmer midsole, stronger upper fabric BUT the tongue is now two pieces stitched together and that sew line is thick and excruciatingly painful on the top of my feet. Also the last has changed and now is about a half size too short much like the Rivera. I'm a solid 8.5 in almost every Altra except the Timp 5 and the Rivera. I believe the designers tried but the tongue faux pas is just too bad to be ignored.

I have worn Altra Timps to run in for many years and many models. I put about 250 miles on each pair and get a new pair about every 3-4 months. I have never had to "break in" a pair of Altras. But these new Timp 5 will be returned. They have a completely different lace, toe box and the ankle support has changed. I couldn't wait to take these off after my run yesterday. I'm very disappointed!

I have been a devoted Altra Timp fan for years . . . until recently. The 1.5, 2, and 3 versions were awesome; the 4 and 5 versions, not so much. In the 4, Altra introduced a new tongue design, featuring a sharp strip of unfinished vinyl along the edge, which transformed the entire thing into an ankle-biting torture device. I had high hopes for the 5, which restores the plush/padded tongue of the former versions; however, it's longer than before, and still causes some friction where it meets the ankle. Worse still, the width of the toebox is not only narrower than previous versions -- which effectively prevents the foot's natural toe splay that has always been one of Altra's main selling points -- the upper is noticeably stiffer than in previous versions and rubs the top of the foot where it bends when taking a step. My feet are actually on the narrow side, and even so, just taking these shoes for a short test walk around the house caused numbnees in my feet.

I have loved loved Altra in the past for their wide and foot shaped toe box. Unfortunately it seems as though they are getting further away from that, and the new versions of shoes they are coming out with are simply too narrow and feeling like a conventional toe box. I bought the Timp 5's and love everything about the shoe, besides the fact that they don't feel foot shaped and are extremely narrow for an Altra shoe. I went on a trail run with these and left with multiple blisters on my toes and felt squeezed the whole time. I've had a similar experience with the new lone peaks and escalante shoes. Please bring back the original designs!

Womens - Size and style are fine, but the shoe is way too stiff. I would have blisters in no time. The Timp4 is far superior. The Timp4 requires no break in time and is super comfortable right out of the box. Not so with the Timp5.

Like others have noted, the tightness of the upper in this shoe made it too uncomfortable to wear. I noticed this when I was trying it on but hoped it would improve. Hopefully they fix it next year.

I'm really disappointed in the quality of the shoe. I have never put on a shoe, and instantly been in so much discomfort. It doesn't feel like this shoe was made for actual human feet. See video

Cute color but on day 3 of wearing them, I ran errands for 5 hours and when I came home my pinky toes were red and swollen.

I could barely get my foot into these shoes. The fit is very narrow and I would've needed a full size larger than my regular size. Sadly I had to return these.

I had to return these even though I sized up a half size. They were too narrow. I've had two pairs of the Timp 4 and loved them. I tried to like these but they were hurting my feet the minute I put them on. I am bummed because I have had great luck in the past with Altra.

I bought this shoe a half size bigger and I guess I should have gone a full size up. Ran a few time to break them in and they are falling apart arround the ankles. Not worth it, IMHO. Ive gone back to my worn out lone peaks.

I purchased these shoes as I'm very active and I choose this particular brand because I am an avid Altra customer.
However, these shoes do not flow with your foot in any way.
The material is so hard.
Disappointed,

These shoes were the BEST SHOES EVER! Until the 5's.
The redesign made them NARROW - not foot shaped like Altra's should be!
The first time I put on a pair of TIimp's I had never had a shoe feel perfect the second I put in on. The 5's the second I put them on I knew they were all wrong. PLEASE bring back the fit of the 4's!!

The first day I wore them, I felt a strain in the back interior of my heel/ankle and got home to see the same area rubbed raw on the shoe. The shoe made my feet pronate, strained my ankle and my knees.

I have Timp 4. Perfectly comfortable, lightweight, running shoes for training. I would buy them every year. But Timp 5 Too massive shoe tongue. Stiff and cumbersome. Compared to timp 4 uncomfortable clogs.

I had multiple pairs of the Timp 4s. They were great right out of the box. These are awful. Very uncomfortable and stiff with an awkward bend when I walked, right across the base of my toes. Why Altra would change things up so drastically for the worse, I have no idea. Manufacturers need to learn how to leave great products alone.
