I have been wearing Timps since 2020 and they have always been my absolute favorite. I have probably purchased and worn at least 8 pairs of the Timp 4s. For me they have been pure perfection with one exception, they tend to wear out pretty quickly. I am lucky if I get 300 miles out of them I was very excited to try the new 5s and as of now have put about 250 miles on them. Right out of the gate I HATED the tongue. It is not the low profile one of the 4s. I know some people had issues with the tongue of the 4s but for most, after a couple wears, they were fine. For me, the second I put them on and ran in them, they were great. On the 5s, the tongue does break in a bit over time but I still find it is not quite as comfy as the 4s. I also found a fairly major flaw with it for winter running, it catches and holds ALL THE SNOW!! Mind you, I am in Colorado and we can get some pretty deep snow at times, but even in active snow it seems to build up and become a ball of snow ice. I have tried tying laces tighter, adjusting, etc, and nothing helped. I can't wear gaiters normally because they just get torn off or hold MORE SNOW. No one needs frost bite I have found that the soles and shoe fabric hold up a lot better and the 4s seem to. I have done a lot of snow and ice running in them, but also with running spikes, shale, crushed granite, boulders, you name it from the CO trails and they barely look worn on the soles after 250 miles! That's pretty amazing if you ask me!! The fabric also does not seem to wear as bad and have holes the way the 4s would typically have by now. There is for sure wear on the laces and heel lining mostly, but I think this is from the sand papering the snow was doing to them when I was consistently in knee to thigh deep snow Cushion and response wise, they are amazing I can feel the rocks and boulders beneath me but I can also run in comfort for 20 miles/4-6 hours with no real soreness, rubbing, etc. I have also noticed something 'strange' about the laces. For one they are way shorter than the 4s and you would think that's not such a bad thing but trail runners know you MUST double knot your laces! Unless you wanna stop all the time to re-tie The shorter ones are definitely on the short side for double knotting and on days after long or harder runs, or when your feet are just a little extra puffy, it's definitely more difficult. Also, I can't seem to get the lacing right on them. I take my time to adjust as I alway have when first putting on, but then without fail, I have to stop at some point and adjust them somehow With the 4s, I'm not sure if the laces or 'lacing pattern/placement' is somehow different, or if the fabric being different somehow affects the expansion/contraction somehow, but it's a bit annoying. Overall are the Timp 5s a 5/5 for me? No. Would I buy them again, absolutely! Would I recommend to a friend? I already have There are some things I would tweak about them, but overall a solid shoe and still my go-to when I am getting out on the trails every day. One last ask Altra, PLEASE make more colors and better colors!!!!! The current selection leaves a lot to be desired. Im not sure how the colors are decided, but just look to the men's shoes. They always have better color options!! I get it, some people like flashy or girly colors, make a couple options for them. But, the rest of us want 'practical' colors. Blacks, (not what you are calling black but is actually dark grey and blue), deep greens, greys, terracotta (Ok, I'm a bit partial to this one. But I do run on red rocks and dirt a lot). Just give us more :)

I was so excited for this shoe however it runs very small and has a very odd fit. I ordered a full size larger than my normal shoe size (the same size I wear in Lone Peak) and it was still way too small. The fit is snug and compresses the foot to turn inward causing over pronation of the ankle which could lead to some major injuries. It is not a roomy neutral fit like the lone peak.

This shoe is great for walking and I wear them to the gym for my workouts. They are comfortable and it is GENIUS that there is a space in the lace-up which avoids putting pressure on the tender area on the top of my foot where I have a calcification that is called a runner's bump. Genius!
And for a bonus the two tone green including a matching green sole appeals to my artistic nature.

Absolutely love the Timp 5, I have 3 pairs all bought since Sept 2025. Fantastic shoe, both in comfort, style and appeal.

This is my second pair of Altras. I love the wide toe box, even though my feet are narrow, the shoes fit perfectly and are true to size, in my experience. Awesome job, Altra!!

The Timp fits my foot like a glove. I have narrow feet, so it's hard to find. I have owned 3 pair now and they just get better with every new release. The Timp 5 is as close to perfect as you can get. I love these shoes and if Altra keeps making them like this, I will never wear another shoe! Love, love, love these!!

I love love, love, love my Timp 5s! Please don't change them! I have gone through a few pairs of them. I put about 550-600 miles on them before I retire them. I have the regular Timp 5s, the Timp 5 GTX and the Timp 5 BOAs. I love them all! Perfect fit. Perfect grip.

Wore the Timp 5 on a 20 mile trail run this weekend and it was the most comfortable ride I've had to date! True to size and very comfortable!

Love that these are my shoe! Durable, just the right amount of cushion, and great big days for back to back long runs. A single pair got me through training for Barkley Fall Classic and a hundred miler, as well as the races themselves. About to get my fourth pair and usually get ~500 miles on them! Per my rec, a friend recently got these before a 100 mile race in Oregon (as they also break in no problem) and said his feet would have been destroyed in his trusty Lone Peaks (in our experience, LPs good for causal trail and shorter runs, but not steep or rocky where you're pounding away for hours and need separation from the rocks/roots/acorns)

They were the perfect shoe for a hiking trip in Utah where the terrain was constantly changing and we were putting on some serious miles. My feet never hurt!

I walked the Camino in these shoes. Met many people with blisters, but I never had a serious blister. I attribute it to these shoes and the toe box!

I'm so confused with the low ratings. I LOVE this shoe!! The comfort is like nothing I've ever been able to find! To me the toe box is perfection! It gives my toes more than adequate room to stretch out. I wish I could buy every single color!!!

This is my first pair of Timp and I love them. Based on the reviews, they have changed from previous models. Perhaps the changes suit my feet because these are my favorite pair of running shoes. I have narrow feet! Most Altras are too wide, but the Timps are perfect. I love the level of cush too. I'm getting older and my joints enjoy some give in my shoes. If you have narrow feet, these Altras are dope! Normally a 9.5, got a 10

You finally got it right Altra!! I didn't care for the Timp 4's because of the short tounge and I told them and they listened. I have had all the Timps. These are awesome and very grippy grabby. I need to buy a new pair soon since I went to Sedona and got that red rock dust on them hiking. I have the light green and pink ones. I love them. Probably choose a different color to blend in the spring mud coming up.

I walk on a concrete floor all day for work & tried on about 40 pairs of shoes before finding these. I've worn custom orthotics for over 30 years for flat feet, & I've never worn anything so comfortable.

I use these shoes daily for hiking in the woods. I had forgotten that they have Vibram soles. That was always the gold standard for any good hiking boot, and it sure does show. Great for traction on rocky and "rooty" trails.
NOTE: your directions at purchase always recommend 1/2 size larger than your street shoes. That's what I do and it fits. Also, toe box is roomy, but that works for my use.

After having both of my arches collapse in my feet last year...THESE HAVE LITERALLY SAVED MY FEET! I love all my Altra shoes and greatly appreciate the design and wide toe box. Best shoes period!
