Unlike many Zappos shoppers, I have big, narrow feet (size 12) instead of big, wide ones. Not many manufacturers actually make shoes for narrow feet, and if they do, not many retailers carry them. Zappos has some, but almost never in the kind and size of shoe I'm looking for. These NB MW840v2 are no exception. New Balance apparently doesn't make them in narrow widths (I need a C width, but almost always have to settle for a D width shoe), but there are enough lacing holes that they can be made to fit decently. I walk a couple miles a day on pavement at a minimum, often 3 or 4, and these shoes are quite comfortable for that when laced up tight. Free, next-day delivery from Zappos is a real plus.

Great shoe overall. Wide toe box fits great. Shoe seems to run about .5 size big.

Very good neutral shoe for wearing with orthotics. Front box is large enough to avoid cramping toes. Not exciting to look at, but do the job.
I'd also recommend:
Brooks Dyad work with my orthotics the best and are the most comfortable--but order for extra width.

I have been buying New Balance sneakers for some time and have noticed that the part that contacts the road keeps getting thinner. That means that they wear out sooner. Other than that, they fit well.

Very comfortable shoes, very roomy in terms of width (even at the same width, some New Balance aren't quite as wide). Only complaint is that I chose real leather because the fake leather uppers can squeak pretty bad...but these are somewhat squeaky, too. Hoping that decreases over time.

These shoes are nice and wide and square in the toe, which is nice since my feet are also square across the front. Unfortunately, they don't provide as much support as my ancient New Balance tennis sneakers, so I will be sending them back.

Too short for my hubby's 12 EEEE foot. Why we love Zappos? Returned and got store credit. We'll be choosing another brand.

I have always worn New Balance sneakers size 11.5, 4E. So I bought these shoes in size 11.5, 4E. Unfortunately the shoes are a half size small and a smidge narrower than usual. The style also looks better in the pics than in person.

My toes were pinched by slanted toe box making my wide feet suffer even though the shoes were wide enough for my bunions at their widest point. It's a shame that these shoes didn't work for me since I love the Fresh Foam cushioning. Also, shoe laces are a little too short for lacing through both top lacing holes which I need to do to keep the heel from getting too loose. I could barely tie a loop

The right shoe was narrower than the left one. That might have been OK since my left foot is wider, but the right one was narrow by too much.

It did not feel like a men's size 12 even though that is what all the labeling on the box and shoes said.

I'm a 4e and these are 6e and they're tight. I'm going to put shoe wideners in and see if that works. A tad disappointed.

My husband is a ups driver and NB lover. He tried these and was not happy. The support was not what he needed. The shoe didn't really hold up well. Would not recommend for anyone on their feet for many hours.

I bought these to replace New Balance 877. They seem to be very similar with the leather uppers being the big difference. I've now worn them for 6 walks of about 4 miles each. FOR ME, these shoes are adequate. At 230 pounds I would like more cushioning and more arch support. Since I pronate very little they are stable with adequate support. Even without the additional cushioning and arch support they are comfortable enough for the 3-4 mile walks that I take and quite comfortable for wearing when shopping with the wife. I won't comment on style since that is totally subjective. New Balance quality is always quite good and consistent across their lines. Sizing is also very consistent. To sum up, I like 'em but I think that I could do better but I will probably have to pay more.

Virtually no one makes shoes for people with long, narrow feet (i.e., me). I usually buy a "D" (Medium) width because there's no "C" or "B" width available. That was the case with the NB 840. I walk 2 to 3 miles daily on pavement, and wanted something with more cushioning than many "walking" shoes seem to have. These are very comfortable, and the lace-up closure allows me to cinch them up so that the "D" width gets narrowed a little bit. I don't have a pronounced arch, but would say they provide "moderate" arch support. My bottom line is that I wear them all day with no problem. Well, except for one problem, which knocks the overall rating down from 4 starts to 3. The tread pattern on the sole looks reasonably aggressive in photos, but my experience is that the shoes are not very secure on wet, or especially on icy, pavement. No shoe is going to be very good on icy pavement, but these are worse than some others I've worn, and I've fallen twice on the ice while wearing them. The fault for that is partly mine, partly the weather, and partly (I think) the relatively non-aggressive tread on the heel portion of the sole. I have walking shoes and winter boots from other manufacturers that I've worn on icy sidewalks and paved trails without problems, but doing that in these shoes is more of a risk.

The Tongue of shoe is an irregular shape, placing unequal pressure on front of ankle/shin joint and creating discomfort. The heel collar is flimsy and tends to bend inward when putting on the shoe making it awkward to get into. Also the area around the opening is showing wear after 2 -1/2 months of use. I mainly use these for an hour plus per day for elliptical workouts and resistance training so not real heavy use. Very disappointing , I would not recommend .

Good fit. True New Balance SL-2 last sizing. Very poor support. Like walking on a mattress. Total disappointment for a multi-decade New Balance customer.

The shoe is very comfortable nevertheless after a few months the foam collapsed on the heel area leading to over supination as you walk. I have been using New Balance shoes for 40 years. this is first pair to ever do this. I do not recommend this model

This is the 6th or 7th pair of various versions of the NB 840 that I've purchased. This is the first pair that feels smaller and narrower than my standard 13 4E; they feel more like a 12 1/2 3E. I wear these for daily exercise walks of 3 to 4 miles; purchasing a new pair about about 90 days. I've tried other brands due to availability but always seem to end up coming back to New Balance for size, comfort and durability. I will be ordering my next pair of walking shoes earlier so I can make sure the fit is better.
