I really wanted to like this shoe. When I first tried them on they felt great, but when I started walking around and ran some errands in them, they began to hurt my feet. I tried to run some more errands in them another day and my feet began to hurt. I don't think I need that much support so that is more of a me problem. This may work great for someone else who needs that much support.

A have very difficult feet to fit. As I age I my forefoot seems to just get wider and wider, while my heels are extremely narrow. I also have very large feet a women's 12W. In addition, I have neuropathy. The neuropathy makes it difficult for me to feel ground changes, it also requires a shoe with a lot of stabilazion. Earlier this summer, I tore my Achilles tendons and I am still having a lot of pain from this. I tore the tendons walking in Gaviota 4. Until now, these shoes were my favorite shoe. I loved them because they had a wide toe box. I reordered them in the Gaviota 5. The 5 had change from the older 4. Unfortunately, there was not enough support in the shoes and I found the that there was problem with pronation. I also ordered the Clark 5. The Clarks were much too narrow in the toe box. My podiatrist recommended a shoe that had a 10 -12 mm heel to toe drop for Achilles tendonitis. I wish Hoka offered shoes with higher heel to toe ratios. Please Hoka give advice regarding which shoe is best for certain common conditions such as Achilles Tendonitis, Plantar fasciitis, neuropathy, etc. HOKA shoe are expensive and for the price there should be an attempt made to help those of us with difficult feet. I would also love more styles in wide. I also wish Hoka would make strictly WALKING shoes in extended sizes. The biomechanics between walking and running are completely different.

I love my Hoka shoes, but I decided to try wide since I have wide feet & can't wear other brands. The wide was way too wide for me!

The shoe was terribly uncomfortable. The arch support inside the shoe on the outer sides was pronounced and aggravating.

I spent months deliberating on which shoe to get for work. I work in a warehouse with concrete floors and it triggered my plantar fasciitis. I ordered Gaviota 5 in 9.5 W and they were about a full size too big and wider than I expected. My legs felt tired from how much my feet shifted in the shoes with my stride. I could feel the cushions in the heels when I stepped down. They felt like sled rails; nothing in the middle. I'm not sure if it was due to being too big. I had to return. I normally wear a 9.5 W in NB. I want to try this style again, but the sizing seems very inconsistent.

I decided to buy a couple pairs of these shoes because I've had friends that said they were terrific. Unfortunately, after I purchased them, I looked you guys up online to see that the majority of your upper management and CEOs contributed to a dictatorship in electing Donald Trump for a presidency.. I will definitely be sharing this with my freedom loving, democracy loving friends who also hate dictatorships and what Donald Trump stands for. Also, you might want to make sure all of the people making your shoes are legal, or your workforce will be gone. Very disappointing that you guys are not a democracy loving company.

For the record, I have high arches, so this may not be accurate to flat footed people, and I use them for treadmill running.
For whatever reason I started developing supination in my left foot, and was recommended stability shoes. I think they worked for the supination, however for someone who loved the shock absorbent cushioning of the Bondi 5 and even the Bondi 7, these have none of that and I quickly felt wear in my knees and hips after about 5 minutes.
So for someone who needs both cushion and stability, these may not be it.
Also, HOKA usually has pretty consistent sizing, but these felt a little bit too large by about half a centimeter or so, maybe needs to be half a size down from your usual.

I wore these shoes for a walk around my neighborhood two days in a row and my feet were aching so bad after. I thought maybe they just needed to be broken in more. The following weekend I was in NYC and walked over 13 miles in one day and hoped that these shoes would help me. Once I took them off I could barely walk and was in agony. I will be returning them asap.

I agree with the other reviewers who say the toe box is way too wide. This from a woman who wears an 11 wide! The shoe fit just fine before but now it's been redesigned to have an even wider toe box. It noticeably splays out and really does remind me of duck feet or clown shoes! I felt goofy wearing them. They looked weird, felt weird, and for what they cost I couldn't be happy with that so they're getting returned. Hoka you ruined this shoe with this weird "improvement!"

I need a stability shoe because I overpronate. I loved the Arahi 6 and I own 4 pairs, but they changed things for the Arahi 7s and they are now too tight in the toe box and uncomfortable to wear. So I decided to give the Gaviota 5 a try. Unfortunately, I had to return them. I had to lace these shoes so tightly - even with having them laced for heel lock - to keep my heels from slipping out with every step - which just made them really uncomfortable to wear. And the toe box on these was actually too wide. At this point I may need to go with an entirely different brand which stinks because I liked HOKA so much.

Sigh. A wide shoe should not be narrow like this! I took a picture of an Arahi 7 WIDE (D) next to a Gaviota 5 Regular width (B), and the supposedly-wider shoe is actually narrower than the regular B width! So uncomfortable. Also the toebox shape is annoying and angled too sharply, giving no room for toe spread, even though I sized up half a size due to the other reviews about narrowness.
One positive to this shoe is the very stable and firm sole. I saw some complaints about this, but as a chronic plantar fasciitis sufferer for 12 years now, I love a firmer sole! I'm wishing the Gaviota style still had this firmer sole, but unfortunately Hoka only has it on the Arahi now, whose shape just does not work for people with wider toeboxes and arches.
Color-wise, it is a creamy beige, so I found the photos accurate. A lot of other reviews called this color more similar to peach, but the only peach on mine is on the back tab.

I loved my Hsviota shoes. I have four pair!! However the ones I just received are not the same . They are at least an inch wider than the others and my foot slides side to side in them. All of them were ordered in 11B. I am at a loss. Why would they be so drastically different.? I sent them back for a refund.

I bought these shoes (along with 3 other shoes) in a size 9.5 The frame of the shoe dug into the arch of my foot. It was not as bad as the other shoes from Hoka I tried. I typically wear an 8.5 regular, these fit great and they gave my toes the wiggle room they needed. I liked these shoes despite the painful arch part. The stability is great I felt that my foot was supported and had great grip on the floor, However, the frame of the shoe was digging into my arch was the worst. It was suggested that I try them for a bit of walk around in the house maybe my feet just need to get used to it. After about 3 hours of wearing them, all I did was walk around the living room and then tried to cook dinner. In those 3 hours, my foot at this arch point hurt so much that the pain started going up my leg to my Achilles and I could barely stand. I took the shoe off and had a bruise forming where the frame was pushing on my arch. It took 2 days for my foot to stop hurting from that. I decided to find a store that sold Hoka brand and try them in-store to see if the other sizes or regular/wide would be better. I tried 9 pairs of shoes from this brand and they all did the same thing. I started to think I was going crazy and maybe my feet were just weird or the pain of one shoe was making it feel like the other shoe was hurting as well. I had my mother and friend try the shoes as well and they had the same complaint that it dug into their arch. I recommend if you want to buy this brand that you find a store and try it on and save yourself the hassle of paying hundreds+ of dollars and having to return it. Like I did and play a game of ordering more and returning them. I would not recommend this shoe if you have not tried this brand before. After trying to see if this was just a few people's issues I have found multiple complaints and Readit threads about this issue.

The shoe dips down on the heel so ankle is not supported. I loved my previous Gaviota's. Disappointed.. felt like shoe was slipping off my heel. Did not hold ankle and heel properly. I returned them.

The shoes fit pretty well, though the heel was uncomfortably low. Support was good. Unfortunately these shoes look like clown shoes. That abd the too low heel section made them a no for me.
I'd also recommend:
Other Hokas, Asics if you don’t need a large toebox.

I really like these shoes, but after 6 months they started getting holes in the material where my big toes are. I cut my toenails regularly and none of my other hokas have done this. I contacted hokas to see if this would be covered under the warranty, they would not cover it. $175 is alot to pay for shoes that get holes in them after 6 months.

I have a high arch and wide feet but this sneaker was weirdly narrow in the middle of the shoe. It had an adequate width for my toes in a wide size but it looked funny overall with a very wide toe area & narrow in teh middle. I didn't feel the arch support at all so soft in the middle, I usually wear Asics for my feet but this was so thin & cheap. I returned them.

I ordered 11 women's as I always do (been wearing Hoka shoes for years), and these were at least 1 inch smaller in size than usual. There was no way my foot could fit into these shoes, so no I have to go through the hassle of returning these shoes. Buyer beware!
