I'll preface this with saying I've just gotten these and am not sure yet about them. They seem to be hitting the outside of my heel in a certain way. But they are the first pair I've ordered in the last year (had to return three other pairs) that was wide enough for me to even get my foot in. I'm a size 5 or 5 1/2 so I don't have big feet at all, but I do have wide feet and need a generous toe box, which these have. I want to thank the reviewers who mentioned the Gaviota over the Bondi 9. I'd been considering those but people said Hoka changed the shape significantly from the 8.
I'm going to see if these shoes with inserts do the trick because my NB shoes are beyond worn out.

Big fan of Gavin's for its cushioned sole and heels as well as the support it provides.
On my latest purchase I noticed what seems to be a premature wear of the exterior soles and heals after only a few weeks of wear.
I walk as my primary mode of exercise and average 3-4 miles a day.
My previous Gavin's did not wear this quickly and I'm hoping that Hoka has not reduced quality for profits.

Will stick with the Bondi in the future because of the wider toe box better accommodates my foot shape. So I am not recommending to a friend unless they have a narrower front foot!

These shows were returned 1 day after receipt due to excessive width for me

The Gaviota 5 was recommended to me for plush cushioning and a roomy forefoot. The forefoot width was good but not great for me, and the cushioning was medium rather than plush. However, for most people it should strike a nice balance.

I have been wearing the Bondi model and read that the Gaviota 5 is wider, so ordered both a B and a D-width shoe. The B fits just fine despite my wide feet. I need the wide width (D) in the Bondi, but the D-width Gaviota was just too wide. I had too much room.

My previously purchased Hoka Gaviota 4 shoes, as well as other Hoka Gaviota shoes, have fit perfectly with an 8.5 B size, but this pair, though labeled 8.5 B, is too tight and shorter in length than my previous pair.

These sneakers are providing stability for my ankles but there could be a little more comfort provided.

I had had Bondis a few years ago and the style changed. Tried these as they sounded like they have the most stability. Unfortunately there is no arch support for my feet. And I also need wide now and tried them as well.

I love these shoes but mine are worn out. I've been watching for the past year, hoping for some new colors. Please come out with some new colors!

These shoes fit very well (9-1/2 Wide) and had some arch support, but not a ton. Unfortunately they made me feel like I was Donald Duck, as they are so wide at the top that it looks like you have duck feet. I tried to overlook that for comfort, but I just couldn't commit to exaggerating my already wide feet with this shoes. Returning.

Very wide shoe. I have Gaviota 5 same size and width in black with a metatarsal for arch support for very long walks. I was hoping this pair would be good for more casual wear. For the latter, I prefer the Clifton 9, and thus will exchange for the Clifton 9. I hope it is as lovely in style and color.

I love my Hoka's, however, I really wish the color options for women were as amazing as the men's options. The men (specifically the Gaviota) get options like: shadow / dusk, downpour / thunder cloud, and limestone / diva blue. The women's colors are so pale and pastel - it makes me wish I could order the men's shoes. Whenever I need a new pair, it's frustrating to be faced with pinks, lavenders, and other pastels. I have seriously thought about switching brands because of the women's color options - please give us fewer pastels and more bold colors.

All of us comment at the gym to how great Hoka bit ugliest tennis show. Please explain the lady rational on colors? Mens slightly better.

I ordered the all black Gaviota 5 and I've been trying to love them, but i just can't get past that something is wrong with the left shoe. There is something tight inside the shoe that runs across the top of my big toe. It is fine when I'm walking but when I'm just sitting down, it is so tight that my big toe actually starts to fall asleep. I've loosened and loosened the strings as much as i can and it hasn't helped. This is my third pair of Gaviota's and the other two fit like gloves. I don't know what to do. I've already gotten rid of the box. Karen Kyncl

Hokas are the only shoes I wear these days after a series of broken toes, broken ankle, etc. However, sometimes there is variability even within a style - I loved my first Bondis (2020?) and the previous Gaviota 5s that I purchased in 2023, but somehow my second pair of Bondis (ended up giving to Goodwill) and this second pair of Gaviotas just feel stiff and not as "cushiony" as the first... I'm going to try hard to break this pair in better and make them my main shoes (since my much-loved and very comfortable older "firsts" are too scuffed up to wear away from the farm or trails :)

The Gaviota 5 felt true to size and fit comfortably. It has a very wide toe box to the point that it looked like a clown shoe in front. However, I returned this shoe because it was just too heavy for extensive walking. I wore these around my home on several days, and my legs could tell the difference between these and my other shoes.
I'd also recommend:

The shoe itself is comfortable and plush. The toe box is roomy. I did notice it is much warmer than my Clifton 9's were though. I have had a plantar fasciectomy and baxters nerve release done on one foot and still recovering from that before having the other foot done. The plush comfort provided for each step is really nice.

For the most part I am happy with my purchase. I had the graviota 4 prior to these. I find the graviota 5 much wider. Not sure if I would purchase them again

Live the show I had to go 1/2 size up which isn't normal but they fit great. The "design" as you see in the photo is not very pronounced. It's just black and that design is a bit of a black shiny material. Disappointing

The gaviota 5 has a broader toe box area that is super comfy. Overall I'm very pleased. The heel is not deep enough to replace the insole with my custom orthotics and results in heel slippage. I'm wearing them without my orthotics and they've been fine. However I still need to take them out for some long walks of 4-5 miles.

I have worn this style shoe for a while now. This pair did Not have as much cushion inside as others before. I put a soft Dr Shoals insert in, and it's more comfortable. I walk 4 miles 4-5 days a week. I put a lot of miles on my shoes. Comfort is a must.

I’m really liking this shoe. I need max cushion and while this doesn’t have as much as the Bondi it works for me. The arch support is very good which I don’t get from the bondi. The purple/blue color is great as well.
