Great comfort and stability for all day standing and walking; good stability; insole flimsy so replaced; used in combination with new insole has helped with plantar; wish HOKA would have more styles available in Wide; exchange process for correct size was very easy and supportive; hopeful that foam support in shoe will hold up over time - overall very satisfied

Love the look. Love its leather it's dressy looking rather than the black I usually wear But.it did not come in wide so I can't wear them for too long as they are not as comfortable for me as my wides

The shoe is comfortable, I wear them all day for work. However they get dirty easily and a piece of the bottom of the shoe is already peeling. I've only had them for 4 months.

The heel where the foot enters the show gets a lot of wear and frays first- why cant they put a tougher rim at that edge faux leather or similar? Many other shoes reinforce that edge.

I have tried 4 types of Hoka shoes and the Gaviota 5 is the best shoe for me. I like the support at the bottom of the shoe. The heel to toe design is great light jogging and power walking on pavement. Unlike the Arabic 7, it is slip resistant on wet floors indoors and stairs. My only complaint is lack of arch support. I have yet to find a Hoka shoe with adequate arch support. I ended up purchasing a set of insoles to provide the support that I needed. I would still recommend this shoes because holds up basic outdoor athletics.

Years ago, the first model Gaviota saved me while recovering from a heel fracture. It was perfect, and I bought several since they worked so well for me. They were magical- I’d put them on and the pain would just disappear. Unfortunately, as time has passed each new model has gotten further from the relief of the original. I’ve tried other models, (eg Bondi), but the thick cushioning without the stability of the Gaviota is a proprioceptive disaster for me. The Arahi has the stability, but insufficient cushioning, and I’d rather die than give Brooks one more cent of my money considering how rapidly their sneakers disintegrate. So it’s the Gaviota or bust. I have narrow feet, and although a bit wider than the 4, these 5’s are still not wide enough to get decent toe mobility. I also find them pinchy at the instep, and have somehow developed a bruise on the top of my left foot. I’m still holding onto hope that we get through this teenage phase and back to the bliss of yesteryears Gaviota. I want the magic back.

After buying a pair of Gaviota 5s in a women's size and a men's, I have to say the men's is a better quality build. (Plus there are more color way options for wide feet). The upper mesh material is more durable in the men's, but the trade-off is that it's not as comfy as the women's. Overall, great shoe. I walked all day in New Orleans with these and my feet weren't barking at the end of the day.

I purchased a blue pair regular width and they felt a little tight, so I ordered the black in a wide and they are very wide! Too wide! Therefore the arch support is very minimal!

I have wore these shoes for almost a year now. I use them for walking and a short jog. But I do like the support they provide I even used them for a softball tournament and they held up great. Since I am getting older I needed some cushion these shoes are not soft and squishy but have a more of a firm feel about them. I also like the arch support they provide which is great, but these shoes tend to feel that your heel is sinking in when wearing them. Shoes are hard to come by that don't cause me pain I'm going on 37 years old and these shoes provide the support I need.

I ordered these for work, because I work as a hair stylist. They are comfortable from the get go. I don’t like how they look because of how wide they are, but I need them and everyone said they were cute.
I'd also recommend:
Brooks, vionic, clouds

Really beautiful shoes, but size 7 was surprisingly huge. And it is a size I normally order for a pair of walking shoes. Had to exchange for size 6.
Very happy with a new pair, fits just right, looks great and feels comfortable.

I love Thomas especially the Gaviota 4s. I search everywhere for them bcmecausw I had the 5s and they were way to wide, even the B width. My feel are swimming in width yet length are are perfect.

I keep going back and searching for the Gaviota 4 because the 5, even in the B width, is extra wide for my foot. Not comfortable that way.

These shoes feel more stable (for balance) than some of the other styles, such as MAch 5 or 6. They have a nice wide toe box, which is good if you have arthritis or bunions. The wide toe box contributes to the stability. The cushioning is good, still allows a feel of contact with the ground but enough to do a moderate aerobic workout.

I wish they had a sleeker look and more subtle colors. They look ridiculous - like boats.

Have to wear thinner socks. Next time will buy half size larger. Otherwise, I like comfort of gaviota especially due to M being wider.
I'd also recommend:
Only wear Hoka…Clifton 10 & Bondi 9

I’ve worn the Gaviota 3 and 4, both size 7.5 wide. I got the Gaviota in a size 7 wide, and it is way bigger than the 7.5 in previous versions. I love a wide box, but this version took it to an extreme. They look like clown feet. Please bring back the Gaviota 3 version and its navy blue color!

I loved these shoes but had to return them because the wide wasn't quite wide enough. Hoka, please make them in x-wide!

Coming from the Transport then Clifton 9 that were too narrow around the toe box and hurting my toes, the Gaviota 5 had room to spare, though after those other two I did move up one size. However, as a stability shoes I found it to be extremely stiff compared to the other two. This thing will keep you grounded and solid, but I needed something softer. People complain about the soft top but it is the best part of the shoe. If you need stability, this is the shoe for you. I did return it after a week of daily use.

True wide shoe box, but too wide for my hammer toe. I need width or stretch on the outside of toe box, not on the big toe side. These would probably work for someone with bunion issue, but did not fit my problem feet.
