I have worn Gaviota size 13 since version 2, but the new 5's are different. They are bigger and wider than the 4's and caused my foot to fall asleep. I'm sure those who want a little more room (width wise) will be happy, but sadly I will have to look elsewhere.
I'd also recommend:

Original box was delivered outside in the rain and damaged. Shoe is fine but too big.

Lots to like about the Hoka's. But they are definitely wide in the toe box, accomodating for D-width or wider feet. The soles have a noticeably larger surface area (wider) than the Nike's I'm accustomed to, and I have about a C-width foot and high arch. The Hoka's aren't heavy, they just felt "wide", and the best description I can garner is "big like clown shoes". I had to go back to Nike's because of my narrow foot. The Gaviota does have an arch support larger than many shoes as per Hoka website. I liked the responsive cushioned sole, and the "rocker" feel of the soles for walking and jogging, just too wide for my particular foot. Wanted to like these... but ultimately returned for credit.

I recently purchased the Gaviota 5, coming from wearing the 4. The shoe itself, I love. The major difference I felt, was the 5 fits a bit wider and as a result my size left a bit too much room up top of the toe box. Thes G5 slid on perfectly, whereas the 4 was a bit more snug, and more narrow imo. Hope this helps. I decided on a different shoe altogether, still Hola, Ofcrs. I did not attempt going down a 1/2 size.

I normally wear Clifton styles and have for years. Love them, but this shoe was the top recommendation based on their website so I splurged. Honestly there is no difference in this shoe over the Clifton's, except price. Way too expensive for the same feel. Just my opinion, but if it helps you decide than this review did its job. I will purchase Hoka again for sure, just not the Graviota.

Feels like walking on a Brick. The website description is mis leading as it is a Stable shoe with Plush Cushioning.

The headline says it all. I took off 1 star for price, and 1 star for insole.

I love the previous Hoka's I've purchased in the past and they have always arrived very quickly. However, the last pair that I ordered, I got sent the wrong shoe. So I returned the package, per Hoka's instructions. That was 10 days ago and I still haven't heard anything. Hoping they are not lost in the mail. Once I receive them, I'm pretty confident I will love them, so I gave a tentative 3 stars.

The heel loop broke the FIRST time I put the shoes on! Happy with them otherwise, but disappointed in the quality if they can't even last the initial try-on.

The tongue on the shoes is about 1/2" too short. Other than that the shoes are good.

I tried the men's 7.5 as a change-up to my normal neutral Hokas (Bondi 8 wide & Clifton 9 wide). It fit okay at try-on but after 1-2 miles walking, it was rubbing uncomfortably on the bone near the base of the big toe. The Stinson 7 is also stable + plush; it fit better, so I returned these.

I hate leaving a review for this. Wish there was more of a Q&A section. This is not a review of the shoe, just a warning that the photos do not match up with reality for the colorway Nimbus Cloud / Steel Wool.
You'll think it's a much darker gray and silver shoe with black logo and details. In reality it's sooo light in color and what shows as black in the photos is really a light gray. I like them much more in the photos than real life which is disappointing. Took a photo of how it really looks, but the reviews apparently cant support images.
Anyway, I'm sure it's a good quality shoe but I wanted to warn anyone looking at this color.
And for what it's worth, I went with the Bondi 8 as it felt more cushioned to me, but only ever so slightly. And that was just walking indoors in my living room.

The Gaviota has been my most favorite running shoe that I have ever worn. My son recently bought me the Gaviota 5 for my birthday. I was so excited until I put them on and tried to run in them. The H frame has made them too wide that my foot slides from side to side. I thought I had found my shoe now back to the drawing board. I would not recommend this shoe for some with narrow feet. I tried to love them, but I just can't! Bring back the J frame!

They're comfortable for walking but there still isn't enough support for running. It seems that at the end of the exercise the balls of my feet and toes are extremely fatigued. I need more of a stiff base with less give with cushioning. It seems that it was sacrificed to make them light. These shoes would probably be good if I weren't as heavy as I am. As I lose weight they will hopefully get better. My daughter had a pair and thought they were great until she went to a store and got a different style and she loves her new ones.

I walked in these shoes for about 30 miles and find them much to soft for me. With them being so soft, it takes to much effort for me to walk. Also the H frame hurts my inner and outer ankles. I switched to the Bondi SR, they are much better for me.

More expensive than the Clifton and doesn't fit or feel as well. The tongue does not line up with my foot. It's off to the side and can't be straightened to fit right. Also too wide and bulky. The outside material is very nice and much better looking and more durable than on the Clifton but overall disappointed especially because they cost more than the Clifton.

They hurt my feet and scared to get used to it because they are so expensive. Besides, they weren't as tough at I thought they would be, I'd ruin them too fast. So grateful that I could return them! I'm sure they have a great shoe for me, if I had the $

I love Hoka, been wearing Gaviota since the beginning but this model the toe box was way to big felt like clown shoes. Will re purchase if they redesign the toe box.
