I really like the basic fit and all the cushioning. With that said the tongue of all things does not set properly, it's annoying. The biggest problem with all HOKA shoes is the poor Vibram selection and sole design. The MegaGrip sounds good but isnnot good on wet surfaces. The problem is compounded when they mix super slippery components into their sole design. Too bad as these are really good shoes, BUT not great.

Need a shoe that's more neutral and less "cushy!" Please advise.

I walk on concrete (street) so far hard to get used to--size (13d} is my normal width that I use with my Nu Balance sneakers but the Hoka ones seem tight in the width, maybe I need inserts that better conform to my foot. If so why would I need to add more cost to already expensive sneakers? Iwear my normal Therlo sweat socks

I love the wider base than the Gaviota 4's. Very comfortable, too! However, the tongue is attached to the inside of the instep only making the tongue slide inwards. It would have been better to attach the tongue on both sides or not at all.

Definitely not a plush as the other pair I bought. And the inside arch rubs my foot even with a insole, so I don't know why that is happening. Just not what I was expecting at all.

I love Hoka! I have been looking for awhile to replace black and white Hokas (Clifton's I think) that were very worn out, so I was looking for color more than style or performance on this one. I have long resisted Gaviota because the pictures online made them look too wide, too long, and too flat in front--they did not appeal to me. Then, voila, the latest version looked okay and it was black and white. I bought it. And I will wear them, but I am not happy with the style. Way wider than I like, or need. So, not a slam of Gaviota, just not my preferred style.

I've been running 25 miles a week in Gav's for 20+ yrs! And yes I'm flatfooted;) The Gav5 is a step down from the Gav3 and Gav4 in my opinion. Something doesn't feel the same in the Gav5, sole has changed somehow, not the same support as the earlier models and the tongue is thin, lost it's thickness!
Honestly, I'm going to buy a pair of the Gav3 or 4, I love both:). I'm a BIG Supporter of Hoka, but they somehow missed the mark on this New Release Gav5 -JSM

I need an extra wide and Gaviota5 is not made in extra wide. In fact they're only 2 shoes in their line that is made in extra wide. Don't you cater to people with wide feet?

The toe box for the Gaviota 5 is just too big for my foot. I feel like I'm swimming in it.

Extremely comfortable shoe in size and width. The rocker feature left me feeling unstable.
I'd also recommend:

I have 5 pair of Hoka, and the Gaviota 5 is MUCH wider than any other Hoka I have.

Shoes look good and feel great, but quality control is lacking. Returned shoes and getting a new pair sent to me. Return was easy and seamless with QR code.

Gaviota 2 version was the best. 5 is closer but a bit too wide through toe box and could use a little more room through the arch

The H frame wreaked the comfort of the shoe. My high arches ached shortly after putting them on and walking in them. Should have left great alone. J frame much more comfortable. This was an Asiacs move.

I have Gav 4 in a 9.5 wide and seems to fit well but the Gav 5 in a 9.5 wide feels too wide. Would you suggest a 10 D would solve the problem. I also do not like the color selection available in wide which is quite drole. I would prefer other color. Please comment. THANK YOU

To make this shoe perfect please make it a Slip-On type shoe like ZEBA. I'm getting up there in age and I can't bend down like before... :-(

After a few weeks of research on the best shoes for runners with supination, I decided on the Gaviota 5 by Hoka. I was very excited to received them. I wore them immediately. The felt very comfortable, lots of toe room, good cushion, fit was correct. My feed was sinking in towards the heels and I adjusted the laces and it was fine. After the fist run i felt the H-frame doing its things and correcting my stride however at the end of each run, the right ankle hurt and my left hip too. My day 5 I started getting a blister at the arch of my right foot. My biggest complaint about the shoes is that that in a matter of 5 days they were already showing signs of wear. The sole seems to be too soft and in multiple places the foam was disintegrating. I wish i could upload pictures as proof of what i am saying. I have returned the shoes and exchange them for the Arahi 8 which is supposed to be another supination shoe

Took a chance on this sneaker. I work 12 hour shifts and my Clifton 9s were great but needed replacing. The Gaviota 5 looked similar and had similar qualities but they did not deliver on support. As a health care provider who walks between 6-10 miles a day 3 days a week, I need a sneaker that will provide me with enough cushion to keep my feet healthy and pain free. This sneaker does not unfortunately. Lesson learned.

This is my second pair of 9.5. The first pair fit well. The new pair is very narrow and I cannot wear it.

They arrived with no tags, and looked worn at toe with small dark scuffs (not sole, that was pretty clean). Both allowed for slight pronation which surprised me after reading reviews. Right shoe fit felt different /not as comfortable that left shoe. If you wear a women's size 10 you may want a men's 8.5 as the size 8 did not allow enough toe room Width was great and style /color was great.

Not a good feel at all. I thought I was going to love them
The fit ie horrible so wide. Not soft and comfy like. I expected What everyone told me about. No way. Sorry. Maybe I just picked the wrong style. I would use them for walking

I love the feel and width especially, but I noticed that within a week the soles were already getting bald and shredded up. Likely going to return this soon because at week 2 the cushioning started to collapse. I had a pair of Bondis before this and they were much more durable.
