This new version of Gaviotas is not as cushioned as the previous one. Even though they seem to be a bit lighter, they feel stiffer, and are wider that the predecessors. Not crazy about them.

I use Hoka for walking, I've only had them for 2 weeks and I thought the cushion would be plusher. I prefer Clifton, it's a better fit. I would have purchased the Clifton but my size was not available in any color. The new Clifton 10 is now available and will probably purchase it soon. Wish there were more black combos available. Only blk/wht and blk/blk

I'm a BIG Hoka fan. However, I would not buy these again. I got my regular shoe size and they are too small. My toes are squished in the top of the shoe, pressing down on my toenails, and it makes wearing the shoes very uncomfortable. I have not had this issue with any of my other Hokas. Also, the back of the shoe at the heel is low, so my heel slips out while walking and running.

I really wanted to love these, especially at this price, but they make my feet hurt due to being too soft so my feet and toes flex too much when walking. The toe box is also too wide so my feet slide, but the heel and center foot is good on this wide shoe. It's hard finding that balance between cushion and support, and these just aren't it for me. : (

I need a lot of cushioning in my shoes due to knee arthritis. This had very little, which is fine if you don't need it.

I am wearing it in the house and trying to get used to its feel. It is different than the arahi and I feel a little unsteady. Very comfortable and cushiony. I am hoping this will be great for walking.

I have been wearing Arahis forever to run in and wanted to try the other stability shoe. I wanted to love these. I do not. They are stable, I will say that. But they are also very cumbersome, wide, heavy, it's like running on skis. Going back to my old standbys. Will never purchase these again. Maybe a good walking or everyday shoe, but not for me for running.

It's like they had a bunch of colors that no one wanted and needed to get rid of them, so they used them all in this line. Jacking up the price to an ungodly ridiculous amount for a shoe that is not as comfortable as the previous version just heaps on the insult. Avoid this shoe if you can-- I've worn Hoka for the past decade and the quality and comfort is definitely reduced in this shoe, plus the toe box is strange.

Shoe length fit was fine. Maybe I have a tall foot, but this shoe immediately created a hotspot of pain on the top of my foot. Tried loosening the laces, no help. The structure of the shoe where the laces begin was too narrow for my foot. Was really looking forward to this shoe....seems very nice but didn't work for me.

I have terrible problems with my left arch support as well as other issues. I wore these for a few hours. My right foot was very comfortable. But my left foot at the arch was very painful.

My first pair of Hokas. They are nice shoes but not worth the money. Average fit and comfort. Too expensive for me.

I've had 3 pairs of these Hokas. All were very comfortable. But all 3 pairs have a squeak to them after about 6 to 8 weeks. I thought it was a fluke on the 1st pair, but nope 2nd and 3rd did it too. Great light and comfortable shoes, but I can't deal with the squeak!

I love these shoes, but they did not seem to hold up as well as other pairs I have purchased.

Well built and liked the fit but it just wasn't right for me. After having surgeries and other issues I needed more cush in ball of my feet. The heel was great but not so much elsewhere.

May be good for others but not for me. My calves tighten and ache when I wear them. Also, my feet feel tired after wearing them. Not sure if they are lacking enough support or what. I've been trying to make them work but don't think I will be able to do so.

While I appreciate Hoka footwear, I regret to report a defect in a recently purchased pair. The shoes are causing unacceptable rubbing on the top of my foot, which is unexpected given their cost.

I was recommended these shoes by the HOKA shoe recommender tool. I have a collapsing arch (flat foot), hence I was recommended these shoes, I believe. After using them for a month, I am disappointed by these shoes due to their poor design for runners with flat feet. The seam of the insole and the shoe is not smooth, and hence just by running not even 10K, my foot gets blisters due to this poor design. I have run multiple marathons with Brooks Adrenaline GTS 22 and had no problems at all. But these particular shoes are so poorly designed that my feet literally get multiple blisters in under 10K. These shoes might be very good for people with normal arches, but HOKA should stop recommending them for people with collapsing arches. I am disappointed.

I am a huge Hoka fan and have bought multiple pairs over the years. My favorite walking shoe by far is the Gaviota 4 with it's great cushioning and stability I tried transitioning to the Gaviota 5 when the Gaviota 4 went out of production but personally I have noticed that there is seemingly a reduced forward propulsion with the new model, although I understand that this was meant to be the reverse of what was predicted from a scientific point of view. So I'm not sure if others had noticed the same thing? I went out and bought a bunch of Gaviota 4's to make sure that I had sufficient to see me through the next few years, assuming that the 4 model would not be brought back into production

Second pair of Gaviota 5 and I have to say that the fit has changed from the Gav 4, which I have 2 pair of. Those are size 11 and they fit perfect. My first Gav 5 was an 11 but felt too large in the length, my local store didn't have a 10.5 so I've settle with the not great feel. It's time to get a new pair and based on my passed experience I decide to order from the online store because they have a larger section, I order a size 10.5 Gav 5, I get them a week later, try them on and they're too tight but might be the right length. So I returned them for an exchange ordering the 10.5 Wide, it's been a week and I haven't heard anything from Hoka on the status of my return. I'm currently on their site's chat, waiting for information, responsive is not how I would describe the experience thus far. Their response to my questions on timing was very canned and disappointing. 15 days for this, 10 days for that...they show receiving my shoes as if by magic, today! And I can expect to hear back from them in no less than 10 days. Come on Hoka, for building such great shoes your customer service leaves a lot to be desired.

I wear a 8.5 B or medium. For some reason a medium is a D...those are much too wide. Do you have the Hoka Gaviota 5 in 8.5 B in Black?

The shoes are very comfortable and light. I can match them with a lot of outfits. However, when my shoes arrived, there was what appears to be a coffee stain on the inner part of the right shoe. Only a few dots of it, but it's a white shoe and can be seen very easily. Meaning that my order was most likely a return that wasn't reviewed before shipping. Overall, I'm happy with my order.

I was going to use the shoe for refereeing Pickleball. However, when I received them, they were not as comfortable as I thought so I have returned them.

I purchased the Gaviota 5 shoe in Nimbus Cloud/Steel Wool from Hoka.com. The shoe looks grey and white with black lettering in the photos online. The shoe is actually white with a little grey and grey lettering which is disappointing. After looking at another online shoe vendor, they have the correct photo that shows the true color of the shoe. I would have thought that Hoka would have had the correct photos.

These Hoka Gaviota 5's just didn't do it for me. The toe box is too wide and the upper has so much room that they are loose. I tried an insert which improved the fit somewhat, but still I find them uncomfortable when walking. It seems that all the new versions of Hoka's have increased toe box size, so it's goodbye to Hoka which is a shame as I liked my first pair.
