I bought the two-pack of navy and charcoal. The navy are softer than the charcoal, but both have a seam across the toes that I can feel - not crazy about that. The charcoal also itch; the navy don't. I washed them twice and used softener hoping the charcoal would soften up a bit, but no luck. I'd return the charcoal, but they came in a mixed pack. Guess I'll see if my husband wants them and I'll keep the navy. I will say though that the thickness is very nice.

I wear a ladies size 8 shoe so the size chart said to buy medium but I bought large based on the reviews that said these would shrink. They haven't so they are too big. That aside, they are thick and warm socks. I usually don't have a problem wearing wool especially merino wool but these feel itchy around my ankles which is strange.

I keep looking for long rag wool socks LLBean used to sell...these are not them. There is nothing wrong with these socks, just too short & too tight & they'll never stretch to be better. They are warm & durable, so for some people might be fine.

Sort of thin, not all that warm, does not seem that they will wear very well. But they fit well and are comfortable and good-looking, so really can't complain. Not as rugged as their regular ragg sock.

I have been buying variations of these socks from LL BEAN for 30-40 years. Originally they were about 90+% WOOL. These were very warm. Over the decades the socks became less and less WOOL and less warm. They also began to last LESS and LESS. The HEELS get holes in them long before the sock is ready for the TRASH. I could fill at least 2 or 3 pillow cases with these socks that I have bought over the years. The main reason I like them is because they are THICK and pad my feet like no-other SOCK on the PLANET. The main reason I don't like them is because the don't last as long as they did "in the good old days." My latest pair lasted only for 4 uses before they sprung a hole in the heel. Usually the socks slowly thin out on the heel and then the fibers separate.

I've ordered merino wool ragg socks before from LL Bean with no problem. Unfortunately, things have changed. One sock from each pair (thank goodness they were the same color) need to go back. One sock had a hole in it. The other one started fraying at the back of the heel the first time I put them. I was even wearing LL Bean shoes at the time. These are going back. Oy!

Really heavy wool socks, for the best winter protection, if you can be sure to fit into your boots/shoes. The problem I found, and I had washed them, so am keeping, is that they have that HORRIBLE, very heavy seam sewn right across the base of the toes. If your shoe/boot fits, this can be really painful after a bit- I had assumed that LLBean, as in most of their items, would not have this problem, which usually only shows up in cheaper socks. I will just wear with slippers in my home. Sad.

I ordered XL socks and the socks had XL printed on them. They were more sized like M or L. Otherwise they were ok.

Within a few month's of purchasing these socks, they showed holes in the heels. L.L.Bean needs to reinforce the heels of these socks so they are more durable. We have had both Darn Tough and Smartwool socks and they do not wear out in the heel.

I have been buying these for years. Like the fit, but realize every pair has gotten holes in the heels. I don't wear outside without shoes and always with slippers inside. Have found a better brand.

I love these socks to wear around the house in the winter. They keep my feet cozy and warm. However, I'm disappointed in their longevity. I thought I was buying something very high quality that would last awhile if cared for correctly. I bought three pair last winter. I do not wear them out and about or with shoes. I only wear them as a house sock when it is cold. I washed and dried them as directed, not even daily. Since I was only wearing them as loungewear after showering at the end of the day, I didn't wash them that often. Maybe one pair got washed per week. Every single pair has a hole or holes in the heel. I still find them very comfortable and will probably buy again, but I'm very disappointed in their longevity longevity.

I thought I was buying more of the heavy wool socks I got several years ago, which are warm and fit will in a boot. These are lovely and soft but not at all warm--I keep checking the fiber content to make sure I didn't buy CoolMax by mistake. I'm warmer in my thinner wool socks. I bought two sets of two, and will return one. The other I've worn and washed, so will hang on to them for summer wear under my boots.

I have bought these socks for years! I love the feel of them, but have noticed the quality has gone down. They used to last me years, now I'm lucky if they make it through one season.

These are some of the most comfortable and best-looking wool socks I've ever owned I've bought them three times now because I love how they feel and how well they go with everything. But every pair has developed holes in the heels after just one fall/winter season. I wear them mostly around the house and sometimes with shoes, but never on rough surfaces, so I was really surprised by how quickly they wore out. I wish the quality matched the comfort and design, because I truly love them otherwise.

These are supposed to be machine wash and dry. The socks shrunk so much they looked like a child's sock and were unusable.

A wool blend - not 100% wool. Not worth the price.

Toe box corners have extra material that ends up sticking out. Aside from looking quite goofy, this caused a major rubbing point while worn with footwear. Disappointing as I had high hopes for these socks.

These very expensive socks are nothing special. Considering the price, they are a quite thin. It's the ribbing that makes them look thicker than they really are, and you can feel the ribbing when you walk. They are defininitely not soft and they are thinner and absolutely no warmer than the acrylic socks you can buy at the big box store for one third the price. "Merino wool" means nothing when the material is thin. Don't waste your money on these.

Huge LL bean branding (and size) painted right in the sock. Why?? It's so ugly and unnecessary. These cost too much to have basically an ad printed on them. Will never buy again.

Disappointing. Seams at the toe were thick making the sock fit poorly and uncomfortable.

For the price of these socks, the quality is so disappointing! I am not sure if I received a defective pair but after one wash both sets of socks were falling apart at the cuff and majorly pilling. I do not believe they will last through one winter season. I unfortunately would not recommend!

These are nice socks but the seam in the toes is quite annoying and uncomfortable. Otherwise they are nice socks that seem to run a bit small. I'd go up one size from what you think you should get. This review is before washing so maybe the seam will feel softer or not be as noticeable.

Too thin compared to the much heavier socks you use to sell for snow and cold that were excellent and heavier like a blanket thickness
