I don't think this is actually an LL Bean fault, but whoever made these socks did a horrible job of closing the toe. It is exceptionally uncomfortable on the foot.

I have been buying and loving the Merino Wool Ragg socks for too many years to recall exactly when my love for them began. Because they have been so warm and comfortable, I have worn them from fall through spring since that time. Their price is fairly high, but I don't mind paying for quality items. (I have "darned" those past socks at least once and maybe twice, as the heels wear thin-to-a-hole, which is expected from a lot of wear regardless of quality. The past quality has been superb, so I never minded darning them. I have then purchased more when the need has arisen. I have recently purchased a new set, and I am very disappointed in the current quality. They are thinner, stretch out quickly when wearing, and it's obvious the percentage of wool is lacking compared to past socks. I'm hoping this is just a fluke. I will try them one more time before moving on, and will certainly miss my favorite old socks if this is the "new" version.

Grew up wearing rag wool hiking/winter boot socks with great satisfaction. These are not your 1980's rag wool socks. Quality is not commensurate with premium price. The toe stitching is noticeable and annoying. Would not recommend for hiking shoes.

I purchase two sets of the socks. Pack of two gray and pack of multi and maroon. I wear size 6 woman's shoe, but wanted to use these as something to wear to keep feet warm and wear without shoes around the house. Had them a year. Rotated all 4 pairs. All four pairs have developed holes in the heel.

My husband loved these socks and wore them often but without a reinforced heel that part of the sock wore out prematurely. I ended up tossing them when the rest of the sock was in good shape but the heels were shot. [Yeah, I could have darned them but I didn't know when I would get around to it and or how that would extend the life of the socks. ] Thanks.

Size down. I bought these thinking a small was the right size but should have gotten x small. Decided to try to shrink in hot water and that seems to have worked.

Great socks! They are comfortable warm and easy to put on. Bean recommends turning them inside out to wash. If you don't you wind up with loads of little fuzz balls which are impossible to remove. So, for this reason would not purchase again which is disappointing because they are very comfortable and warm.

I purchased these for my trip to Alaska to be worn with my L L Bean hiking boots. Unfortunately, even with a lighter weight sock beneath these, my feet did not stay warm. In fact my toes felt as though they were froze. Probably will keep my feet warm in Oklahoma but definitely did not in Alaska.

I have been wearing these socks for many years. I continue to buy them despite the fact that they are not reinforced at the heel. They wear out at a particular place. For what Bean's charges for these socks, they should last longer. I have a collection, all of which are worn through at a particular place at the heel. I'll be happy to send it to a Bean product test specialist if you give me the address information.

I was hoping to replace my (not-so) Smartwool socks with these ones. Alas, they are so thick and stiff, they lack any sort of comfort or softness. I continue to search!

Do not last as long as previous purchases.. wear develops in toes and heels. Barely can make a season now.

Comfortable and seem well made. However, waiting 2 months for delivery is ridiculous. Especially for the price. Low inventory and long wait times over the years are the reasons I don't shop at LL Bean very often.

I have several pairs from 30 years ago. I'm glad that new ones are available, but the new ones are thinner than the old ones. I wouldn't be surprised if the percentage of wool content in the new version is lower that in the old ones as they don't "tighten" up as much after washing. I'd pay a premium for the quality of yore, but, as i said, I'm glad "ragg wool socks" are still made. It will be interesting to see how they wear.

Really like these socks when I initially put them, warm and comfortable. But after 20 minutes, they become itchy. I really have a hard time wearing wool next to my skin but hoped these would be different since the ad suggested they would not be itchy. If you are sensitive to wool, be careful. Unwearable for me.

I do love the socks but they wear out too quickly in the heal. They are comfortable and can be worn with boots or hiking shoes. My only complaint is that they wear out too quickly and always in the heel area. I have lots of unmatched pairs, tossing the ones too worn out for repair. Consequently, I wait for the socks to go on sale. Wish they were re-enforced in the heel.

I have mixed feelings about these socks. They feel great on my feet (I think it's the coarseness of them) it feels like I'm getting a massage on my feet as I walk. But they really made my legs itchy! I assume it has something to do with the hair on my legs (and I don't have much). That's the only thing I can think of. But I think the are good quality socks, just didn't really agree with me. Probably just wear them to work with base layer (long johns) and put the leg of the sock over them to keep them off my skin.

Honestly? Seems thicker and warmer on the ankle area than the foot area.

Too heavy and too expensive. I haven't worn them enough to rate them properly for fit and wear.

The socks fit right, feel comfortable. One of them, however, was thin in area in front of the heel. Almost felt as if it had previously been worn.

So one was grey/oatmeal and looked like a matched pair of socks. The other had multiple stripes and the color patterns did not match. I do not think it was deliberate but a slight variation did show and you could see that they were not a match .

I have bought these ragg wood socks for years and loved them. However, the last ones I ordered were way to tall (10 inches). Would like to have some of the proper size since I do not wear boots. If you ever have the previous size (large with a 6 inch height) please let me know. Thank you.
