I recently got the Salomon SENSE RIDE 5 trail running shoes and they've exceeded my expectations. The shoes have great traction on different surfaces and the cushioning is perfect for long runs. The Quicklace system is also a standout feature that ensures a comfortable and secure fit. Highly recommend for off-road adventures.

I do enjoy the wider toebox. The new foam feels much stiffer than previous model. Insoles slip when wet, which is very annoying, this is happened on both mine and my wife shoes. Specifically during the Gorge Waerfall 100k we had very wet and sloppy conditions, I had to remove my insoles because they were sliding out of the back of my shoes, which led to very uncomfortable run. Since ride lion has been my go to shoe for a long time but Im very disappointed in this new model.

Honestly my fave trail shoe in every season of running. Grippy and comfortable but still a great feel of what's under you, also HELLO these new colors. Cant suggest enough!

I've never needed a wide shoe but these feel too narrow around the foot. Otherwise i really like them. The highlighter yellow is a bit much for my taste but it was the least obnoxious color they offered.

Just got my new Sense Rides and took them out for 8mi today. I remember loving that first version of the Sense Ride but never had a great experience with version 3 or 4 so I wasn't expecting much with this version. But WOW! Version 5 hit the mark and is a very solid all-arounder. Don't take "all-arounder" that as a negative. That's what this shoe is supposed to be. Your everyday trail runner that is comfortable right out of the box, and that's what it is. Super comfy with a nice fit. Not too snug, not too loose but a very nice hold all the way through the foot. It stayed in place on the run. I had one cinched down tight and one pretty loose and after awhile I didn't even notice either one on my feet. If I can forget it's on my foot, it's a good shoe. The old ride of the Sense Ride 3 and 4 were super hard to me. Luckily they've softened this one up a touch and it has a nice smooth ride. Not too much under the foot and not too minimal either. You have good ground feel but still feel protected in this one. It strikes a good balance and comes out as a solid all-around versatile trail shoe. I'll be putting more miles in this one over the next couple months.

I bought these shoes specifically because of their gripping ability when climbing over rocks. Not all Solomon shoes do as well, however, I know from earlier versions the capability of this model

I loved the SenseRide 2 shoe, so when I went to replace them with the SenseRide 4, I was very disappointed when the pair I received made an obnoxious popping noise when walking. Other reviewers had the same issue unfortunately. Thankfully this was only a few weeks before the SenseRide 5 released, and after giving these a try, I can say that there is no noise from them. Further, the comfort and fit is very similar to what I liked about the SR2 shoe. Great job Salomon! In general about the SR features I like: slimmer sole, light weight, good grip, the tying system, and of course the fit. I color choices are not my favorite, so I'd love to see some more back-to-basics options (see SR2 line for example).

Couldn't agree more with T789 on colors....and it's that or black, black, black ...especially in wide versions. At 68, I've purchased Salomon shoes my entire life and I've never had the problem with so many running so narrow in the ball of the foot.

I have a pair of SR4 and I agree with earlier review, this is one helluva update! The traction is improved as I like the smaller grid pattern. The cushion is responsive, yet comfortable, providing stiffness in a trail shoe that I prefer. And the upper is fantastic, nice form fitting around entire fit. I put these to the test today on a 5 miler and really really like. I will race in them soon too. Fantastic all round trail runner.

I have two pairs of earlier Sense ride models, one grey green and black, another pair grey and black. Why Salomon, Why are these the colors you guys release?? What are we doing? Cant we make at least 1 of 5 color schemes on the shoe neutrals and not some peacock look at me colors. I love, love , love these shoes, but I will NOT buy them if these are the color options. Again why? Another year goes by and more terrible colors.

I owned the original Sense Ride and 4 pair of the Sense Ride 3. I loved both of those shoes. I tried the Sense Ride 4 and disliked the fit and they felt insecure so I returned them. Immediately when putting the Sense Ride 5 on, the fit was great and felt like a mix between the Sense Ride and Sense Ride 3. Fit is perfect while being secure and the energy foam is a great update from the optivibe. When ordering these I wasn't completely sold on the new style but I must say they look great in person. Great update Salomon; I can't wait to have many pair of this shoe.

I really like the way they feel. They hold your feet in place. I used them for short runs. Mostly 3 miles 2-3 times per week. After 4 months the treads are gone and the sole is just about gone on both heels. I mostly run on gravel.

This pair has a strange beginning. I have been using Salomon shoes over a dacade, this was the first time after putting my shoes on, my feet started hurting. After a kilometre of walking the shoes started feeling ok. These shoes shoes have a slight bulky feel I had Sense Ride 4 before they were very comfortable but ripped within 3 months of urban use.

Overall this is a decent shoe for non-technical trails. Pros: the shoe is light, breathable, has good lug depth, and a reasonable amount of cushioning. The lacing system continues to work well, and the tongue baffles do a good job keeping everything snug and secure. Cons: the shoe has very little toe protection or randing for abrasion prone areas. I'm not sure if there's a rock plate present but after a few off-road miles it doesn't it doesn't seem like it does. While the shoe has an overall feel of good craftsmanship that we expect from Salomon, it doesn't feel durable enough to try on trails in the ADK, VT, or WMNF. It also uses Salomon's proprietary sole compound which is fine for dirt but not reliable on greasy rock. Other shoes in the same price range offer Vibram's "Mega Grip" or Pomoca compounds which are for more reliable on damp surfaces. Lastly, there's the fit. The shoe is a little snug and runs short. If you're thinking about ordering this one, go a half size up.

I have used this shoe for a mix of activities over the past few months. It is a great walking and good general runner. Very comfortable and nice looks too. While it's branded for trails, I do not find this inspires confidence on more aggressive (narrow, rocky, steep) trails. I think it is too cushioned, so the stack feels high and rolls too easily. I also had two problems with wearing: the insole started slipping backward after a couple of weeks, which Salomon replaced with a better insole for free. Why bother with the original? It was poorly designed. Thankfully the replacements have been much better. As well, the toe plastic has cracked and started peeling. This is a quality issue considering my generic use of the shoe. Once again, Salomon customer service has been great and offered to replace the shoe after I notified them of my problem. Great company, but not the best experience with the Sense Ride 5.

I've been wearing Sense Rides for years. They were a terrific fit until these. I'm not sure if they are actually narrower or just more rigid, but they are way tighter mid foot into my toe box.

Awesome construction and colorways, really great grip. Been on Senses (mantras, pros etc) for more than ten years now. But with the Sense Ride 5 I experienced two issues. Firstly, they're a lot less volumey in the toe box meaning I get blisters from steep descents. Next, the top of the rear of the shoe is very rigid and curved in, which causes significant Achilles bite, meaning more blisters. All in all a good shoe but feels like the new Sense shape isn't for me anymore. What a shame.

These shoes have regressed to the mean of "too cushy and not stable" trail shoes. I beat up 2 pairs of SR3s and 1 pair of SR4s with ~300mi each - mainly road to trail. They have always been firm, supportive, responsive shoes with a great stable foot lock. I always thought of them as a great hybrid of the ultras stability and the pulsars responsiveness. Unfortunately the SR5s appear to have gone towards the trend of cushy + energy blade, which just seems like a turn from the norm, unfortunately. Hopefully the next iteration returns to what I used love about these shoes.

TLDR after running 1,000's of miles in all previous versions of the sense ride, this version is a far cry from those and not good for much more than a few miles on smooth gravel trails. I've been an avid fan of all previous versions for their fit (I've never had blisters or any other fit related issues in any of them) and feel, and the 5's don't match that. After running everything from short 3-5 mile morning runs with the dogs up to 50+ trail races in these shoes, I was really disappointed to have several hot spots and blisters on a recent half marathon. Here's what changed for me. - The new sockliner/insole is thin, flimsy and changed the feel in the mid and fore foot as well as the volume in the shoe. Bring back the Ortholite!!! - The heel cup is now one smooth ridge and doesn't provide nearly the hold of previous designs that were setup with a few different pieces of padding. - Energy foam provides a nice cushion in the heel and mid foot, but allows too much feel in the fore foot and toes. - Overall the shoe feels sloppy and I can't get the fit dialed in a way that is comfortable and injury free. I have to crank the quicklace system down too tight to keep my foot from moving and causing blisters on anything over 3-4 miles or anything technical, especially downhill.

I've had 3 pairs of the sense ride 4's and loved the fit and stability but this new rendition left me with a giant blood blister and black toenail after a 12 mile run. These are significantly more narrow which cramped my feet. The tread durability is still on par with the 4's and the stability is still adequate, but that's the only positive attributes that carry over. Unless you have extremely narrow feet I wouldn't recommend.

These are my 8th pair of Solomon trail running shoes. When i first got the Sense rides, they fit well and were comfortable, I ran a few trail races in them. After about 3 months they developed a hole in the foam and the insoles began to deform. I can no longer wear then, they are so uncomfortable. I tried filing a warranty claim with Solomon but they rejected it stating the hole in foam was caused by impact they could not control. I've never had a shoe do that before, I will no longer by Solomon as they wont stand behind their product.

I've been using various Salomon shoes for years now and this is my 4th pair in the Sense Ride series - all previous versions have been great for casual runs and have held up really well. For some reason the insole on my new 5'ers keep sliding up the heel and on my last run, after some steeper downhills, actually ended up at the top of the collar which caused my toes to bash against the front of the shoes - two toenails now gone on my right foot!! I don't want to glue the insole down because I sometimes run in the rain and mud and need to clean the shoes out after...HELP!!! PS - Please bring make the Sense Pro - they were the best shoes ever!!
