This hat is huge. I have a rather large nugget, and this hat is way too big.

I was searching for a replacement for the reversible (ie double layered) merino beanie I've bought every few years. It seems to be discontinued, and this beanie was the same price I usually paid for the reversible one, so was very surprised to see it was just one thin, flimsy layer. It even feels thinner that a single layer of my reversible. I can wear it under a bike helmet in the spring and fall, but will need to find another solution for winter. Disappointing case of rising costs for lower quality.

I bought this to replace the reversible smartwool beanie that I had for a few years and sadly lost. That beanie was perfection and I'm upset that it's no longer available. I need a beanie that's warm and doesn't have a cuff so that it can be worn under my helmet. This product is see through and provides no warmth whatsoever ever. It will be going back! Smartwool; please, please, please bring back the cuff-less beanie it was so good.

I purchased this beanie to replace my original smart wool beanie from nearly 10 years ago. I misplaced it, and am mad about that fact. I primarily use the beanie around the house to keep my head warm, as I am bald. I give it 1 star because I have a head size of 7 5/8 and my head swims in the thing. It's far too big, and loose to be useable. Sometime I'd even use it as a sleeping cap but the new design lacks structure of a headband.
A redesign is in order.

This hat is very stretchy and does not fit. There was an earlier model that fit perfect. This hat is almost worthless.

I bought the Merino Beanie as a replacement for my Smartwool PhD Light Reversible Beanie. Unfortunately, the two beanies are completely different and not interchangeable. The Large-size Merino Beanie is very small and did not cover my ears. It's also even more light weight than the PhD Beanie, if you can believe it. I would never recommend the Merino Beanie to anyone.... On the other hand, the PhD Beanie was perfection! Beats me why Smartwool discontinued it.
