This sweater was perfect! First, it's wool, not cotton, it fits well, it is a great color, and it's well made, ( I am hard on clothes). Very nice classic garment.

Nice heavy weight for Fall/Winter. Looks great. However, you will need a long sleeve t-shirt underneath as it is a bit itchy directly on my skin.

At 6'3" and 180 pounds, I'm rather lanky and sweaters have always been a fashion "bete noir" for me. With sleeves that are always too short and torsos more suitable for a maternity garment, I can never find one that fits me. Until now (I ordered the large/tall). I'm fairly certain that when I tried it on and found it actually fit ME perfectly I could hear the hallelujah chorus somewhere in the background. Long enough sleeves: check. Nice, snug fit around the midriff: check. Roomy enough around the shoulders for full range of motion and some underarm ventilation: check. This sweater hits all the marks for fit. But wait, it gets better. The not-bulky and tight knit maintains warmth without overheating and even has a fair amount of wind resistance to it. The roomy shoulders also help prevent overheating (and sweaty armpits) and keep the sweater feeling comfortable. The Henley collar means I can wear in unbuttoned over a collared shirt or button it--or not--and wear it over a crew neck shirt and it will look great either way. My favorite feature is how the seam on the sleeves reverses at the cuff. This ensures the rolled-back cuffs present a smooth--and, uh seamless--look. I bet this sweater would look AMAZING in an RAF blue-grey or a khaki brown. Hint, hint, L.L.Bean. :D

I was looking for a wool sweater to keep warm and it does that. I chose it based on the description and it was accurate.

I have two commando-style sweaters; I'm normally a large. The large one (another brand) fits snug for warmer weather; this one fits roomy and long. Very warm, very well made. Long enough to cover a mid-size pistol easily. Sleeves cuff back deeply, but that was fine with me. A large would have fit, but I was looking to be able to get a long-sleeve shirt under it, comfortably, and for plenty of loft under a windproof jacket. Fatigue neck keeps the chill off. This is the one you are looking for.

I bought these to replace sweaters I originally got in England 40 years ago which were after much use were completely ragged which were, alas, no longer available. I went by the size guide and first got an X-large which was way too big. I returned it and got a Large which fit perfectly. So I would say they may run a bit large unless I just misread the size guide. I live in Montana and found the sweater to be quite warm and even fairly wind proof. I splurged and got one in each of the four colors offered at the time I purchased. The only drawback I would report is that the wool tends to pill and needs to be brushed every few weeks to remove the pills. That is to be expected from Chinese wool which is just not the same quality as good English wool. All in all - a good sweater.

This sweater was a great purchase. Extra warm, looks great with great quality. A little roomy and the sleeves are a bit long, have to be cuffed but might be cured after a hand wash or two. Great outer layer.

This was a second purchase for my very picky son. He likes the fit, durability, and warmth. His first sweater is about 3 years old and holding up well, getting worn on a weekly basis in the cold months.

This is a very comfortable and warm sweater and for the money, a great purchase. I looked at several suppliers and bought this sweater. I have never been disappointed in the quality of any LL Bean purchase. I would buy this again. L L Bean is becoming my go to place to buy clothing.

I have two chamois shirts, a two layer river drivers shirt, and received this commando sweater today as gift from my wife, love all these products, fit is right and warmth can not be beat by any other company. Great job, and Great Company

I had high hopes for this sweater. I wore a similar style for many years in the military. My expectations were met and then some. This is a wonderfully styled, quality wool sweater. It is well crafted; the stitching is perfect. The cut (I purchased a large) is perfect for my frame, 5'10; 187. Sleeves are long but fold back nicely into good looking cuffs. Super comfortable and warm. Probably what I like best about it, is every time I've worn it, I've gotten compliments and inquiries as to wear I purchased it. My wife wants me to buy one in every color! Highly recommended.

The black color is great as well as the fit. Very warm. Haven't had it long enough to see how it hold up, but I have to think the patches will add extra life. The shoulder patches are great for a day back straps for hikes on cold days. Some have said it was itchy, haven't sound that to be the case at all, but I always wear a shirt under a sweater.

I live in Miami so I don't wear sweaters very often. I've always wanted this sweater in wool for the insulation and breathability of wool. But there was no need in Miami. Then I went to N. California to work for three months. We've had several days in the 20's and 30's. This sweater is ideal for active work in cold weather, everything I hoped for. Fit perfectly. The sleeves are long enough that the cuff's fold over. The chest length is enough for it to double up at the waist, and I'm 6-3, 215 lbs. I prefer the Henley neck, again for breathability when being active. I've worn it comfortably at 7,500 feet in 20 degree weather. Anything above 50 degrees I'll switch to a lighter cotton sweater. But I am 100% satisfied.

I bought a grey sweater a year or two ago and wore it often, usually with only a t-shirt underneath. I bought a black one this year. They fit my stout body well, with no sagging. The bottom of the sweater especially stays tight and doesn't balloon out.

I bought this sweater about a month ago. I like the fit (a little roomy in the chest and snug at the waist) as well as the vintage styling with cotton reinforced elbows and shoulder patches. We don't get terribly cold here and at first I was afraid it might be too heavy, but it is comfortable in the 40-50 degree range. If it gets colder, it can easily be layered to provide additional warmth. Very happy with the purchase.

This large size may be a tad too big for me since it reaches down to my butt. However, I bought this for the 5 to 10 days a year South Florida has temps below 40F. Have not reached that level yet, but 51F the last 2 mornings show that this is the thing I wanted. Not even a 15 to 20 MPH north wind on top of the temp made me uncomfortable while wearing this sweater over a long sleeve, mock turtleneck t-shirt. I have several lighter sweaters, sweat shirts, fleece, and jackets but nothing between them and a full scale freezing weather parka. I now have that intermediate top layer that gives me maximum warmth with minimal layering. This should be a go to item for years to come. Excellent.
