I ordered half size down and it was the right size, the footbed is great, unfortunately the seam between the rubber and leather in the back cuts right into the back of my foot, even with the leather pad that is there.

Just a fair warning, I purchased these boots two weeks ago and got them in the mail today. But unfortunately, these boots are too narrow on my feet.
Just a little background, I normally wear a size 10 work boot that is a wide cut boot. and per the instructions on the website. I ordered one size smaller.
The boots are the correct size as far as length goes, but they do not offer a wider option and that is a shame because these boots are very comfortable when you slide them on, but squeezes my feet. And unfortunately, I can't recommend these boots to anyone since I have no experience with them outside of trying them on.
But I really do wish L.L. Bean would make this boot in a wider version.

The 8 inch boots were too high for me and cut into my legs.

I had a pair of these uninsulated boots that my dad gave me back in high school and just retired them 2 years ago. Since I am now 50, I thought I would reward myself with a new pair of goretex Bean Boots. I now hate these boots because they fit terrible, liner gaps up, and cannot field hint with them because of the fit / liner. Still love LLBean but wish they would have been upfront with how this boot would wear over time compared to my originals that I still love today.

Excited to receive this purchase but immediately disappointed by lack of quality control. Glue at the stitching between rubber and leather can be seen. For the price of this boot, I expect much better quality construction and very very disappointed with LLBean in dropping the ball.

I've visited the LLBean store and really like this shoe. However, at the time I wasn't sure and decided to purchase online. On receipt of item from online purchase, notice the glue was exposed in the seamline where stitching along the front between rubber and leather. I was very disappointed and expected better quality control from LLBean especially at this price range.

I was disappointed to see that the pair of Bean boots we bought for our son, to head off to college, did not have a fully gusseted boot tongue. So much for the chance of a waterproof boot to the top of the leather. Gave 3 stars because I have yet to hear from our son on the fit. I have owned a pair of Bean boots for 30 years, without complaint and they have even been resoled.

Had to reorder a few sizes down and it's still on the larger side. Now I'm encountering some pain while walking. Had to add inserts to adjust the sizing further (length was alright but interior height was off too).

Not very insulated. I had hoped that the flannel (that isn't very flannel) would cover more of the inside of the shoe as well.

I paid for expedited shipping to get two pairs of boots before our trip. They arrived on time, but way too big. Both mine and my fiance's boots feel an entire size too big, so of course we have to return them and will not have them for our trip, making the expedited shipping cost lost. Customer Service says "These boots are special. That's why we recommend sizing down a half size."
This is a silly stance for a company to take. Bean is creating an unnecessary variable of confusion by deviating from the American standard boot sizes... Rather than just shifting their boot measurement scale 1/2 size to the right so that we are all on the same page. This creates major waste in shipping costs and pollution.
Just get with the normal boot-sizing standard, there's nothing special or unique about not fitting... it's just annoying.

I have owned the famous boot in the past although that was years ago and the low version. This one was way too big despite the size chart recommendation and I was annoyed about the return cost charged,

First, I would rather have these than not. Let's get that out of the way. I think they will do the job in deep snow, especially since my other shoes won't do the job in even the most meagre of snow.
Now for the less good...
I did expect them to be warmer. In 10-degree weather and multiple pairs of socks, even thick ones, my feet stayed cold sitting in the car.
We just got our best sheet of ice this season. I went out first and saw how terrible it was. I had no traction. I thought that would be that. But then my wife came out in her tennis shoes and had better traction than me.
The warnings about how to pick sizes are correct--go down, they said--and that's why I rated them as true to size. That said, everything L. L. Bean runs big compared to every other retailer. I'm about 6' tall and 150 lbs., so there is no such thing as an L. L. Bean flannel shirt that will fit me properly. I wear an 11 in dress shoes and a 12 in comfy shoes. These 11s feel good in length, and my feet definitely are not sliding from side to side. But they are not snug, either. If I were to replace them, I wouldn't go all the way down to 10 (and they don't have half sizes, right?), and I have no reason to believe that I should go narrower (I can't even wear any tennis shoes except New Balance and Allbirds). Rather, I feel like the problem comes in me being a skinny guy once my ankle comes into the picture. It's impossible for me tie these tight enough and high enough. They wind up feeling like a slip-on shoe: it may be perfect in length and width, but without plenty of extra down or other cushion, you'll always feel like you're coming out of it. Part of this is me, as I have big and long toes and then get slimmer and shorter (though still wide) the closer you get to the heel. And if I went to an L. L. Bean store, I imagine that a salesman would tell me to just get a 10 and break them in as I wince in pain.

Given the boots are suppose to be insulated, they are not as warm as I expected. Toes get a bit cold with temps in the upper 30's

The seams on inside of boot need to be improved . All boots seem to run narrow and only a few styles come in wide which doesnt make sense especially with winter boots

Much too large. So large that foot could be put in & taken out without untying boot when tied to the maximum tightness. Would have to order 2 sizes smaller.

My husband usually wears a size 11 and those were enormous, so we exchanged for a size 10. The size 10 was also about a half size too large. The leather was also pretty scratched and damaged on the second pair received. They werent really the quality youd expect for $160.00 boots!

This boot is very comfortable. The leather is great quality and obviously full-grain. The issues are in the alignment of the leather upper to the rubber lower (it's quite a bit off in some areas). The huge issue is that this version of the Bean Boot is that the tongue doesn't go all the way to the top like the original boot. The added insulation is great, but you're losing the waterproof aspect. This is not noted in the description. Why is this? Just make it the same as the original, but with added insulation. What a shame.

Got these as a gift for my husband, should have listened to all the reviews, they are huge! Order down a size, we're waiting on our exchange of a size smaller.
