Unfortunately I have to return these because the heel is incredibly narrow. I've never had this problem with any shoe I've worn ever. The toe box area was a good fit though, but a little longer than I'm used to in my size. I could see how the extreme cushion and rocker might be good on a long road on a smooth paved surface, but I do a lot of dynamic darting around and I feel like I would likely roll my ankle in these. I also didn't like how the rocker felt in my arch.

the sole of this shoe is very hard/not squishy when walking despite the thick appearing sole, there's no way I wouldn't have feet pain after wearing these.

Pretty frustrated at this point. Altra acknowledges that shoes run small yet they do not stock womens 11.5 in almost any styles. 11 is too small (my typical size) and 12 is uncomfortably large.

I love this shoe, but for a company that claims to have "barefoot style", this shoe is too narrow and they don't offer a wide width. I returned, and ordered in a men's size, but unfortunately, this cute color isn't available in men's

Too narrow and the arch support in one foot hits in the wrong spot. For a shoe that is made to be "barefoot" friendly with adequate room in the shoe, why wasn't there a wide-width?

I have been needing more cushion as I get older and decided to try these. I have gone from Escalante to Paradigm to these shoes. I think the original footshape is not for me, as these gave me blisters and didn't work with my feet.

Chunky foam shoes being all the rage, I tried these (other brands don't have wide enough toe box). They were comfortable in the way of nothing feeling tight or pinchy. Just a tad clunky (I can walk/land quietly in other shoes without effort). The main loser for me is the heel is wide and fluffy with foam instead of contoured such as with Alpine or Lone Peak. Lacing just couldn't fix the problem of heel slip.Any tighter and the top of my foot is sore.

This *would* have been my second pair of Altras if I'd chosen to keep them — I'm coming from a well-worn pair of Escalantes that have served me well over the past 15 months. But, my goodness: the amount of external cushioning on this shoe looked, on me (a relatively petite woman), clown-like — maybe I'm just too accustomed to wearing barefoot-style shoes, but I'd never pick something so high (which for me, also elevates the risk of a tumble, especially with no support around the ankle as a boot might offer). The last (shape) of the shoe was also pretty straight, and did not seem to allow for the natural curve of a woman's foot. I'm giving three stars because the size was at least consistent, and I do think that if someone is into hyper-cushioned footwear, this could serve a purpose. But if you're like me — someone who enjoys *some* to moderate cushioning, and a more natural fit, *and* who also alternates with very minimal footwear (I'm barefoot almost always at home, and wear classic Vibrams and other styles while training/out and about) — this probably won't float your boat.

I am a lover of Altras and I have 7-8 pairs in the closet. I also walk 8-10 miles a day, mostly road walking (some trail). I was so excited to try these shoes for the massive padding in the sole (regardless of the hideous orange creamsicle color - come on Altra, you guys can improve a lot on your colors) as I have back problems and recently had back surgery. I walked in these shoes once for 8 miles and was not a fan. The sole was hard. Not at all soft and cushy like some of my other Altras. Im going to try them 2 more times to see if anything changes but if not, they will be the first pair of Altras I am sending back.

I generally run in the Paradigms on the road and the Olympus on trails. As I age I seem to be looking for a bit more cushion on the road and thought I would try the Via Olympus. With a higher stack height than the Paradigms I thought there would be a bit more cushion; however, they are too firm for me. They may work well for someone without back issues. The shoes are very comfortable but they are just a bit too clunky to run in for me. I will go back to the Paradigms for running.

I wanted so much to love this shoe. I love the width (it's the only Altra that still has the original wide footshape) and the high toe box, but instead of feeling cushioned and bouncy it feels hard and inflexible. I usually don't make noise when I run, but these sound like I'm running in concrete boots. I ran a half marathon in them a couple of days ago and the bottoms of my feet are so sore. It makes me really sad, because Altra has been my go-to brand for years.

I thought that this shoe was going to be uber soft and cushioned. Not the case. In fact, this is the hardest Altra shoe I've ever run in. Surprisingly, the width is perfect, but I feel like I'm running on planks. I will gladly go back to the Paradigm.

The forefoot and splay of toes is amazing... However, The heel is WAY TOO BIG... I tried lacing it a couple of different ways, but it did not work. I have the Paradigm in size 7 1/2 it it fits well. I was hoping with the Via Olympus that I could add more room at my toes and the 7 1/2 won't work due to the heel slippage. I went out for a run and made it about a mile before I started having pain in lower leg. I may try a size 7 as I'm looking for a great shoe to sustain me through Ironman and I'm not convinced that the Paradigm is it.

I loooooooove the altra trail shoes. Thought I’d like these for training (instead of my Hokas to change it up)
Omg. I do not like these for running. I should’ve taken them back but I gave them too many attempts. Now I just use them on runs I want to train for a heavy brick shoe

I purchased a size 9.5 and 10. The 10 was too big.... the heel part of the shoe did not fit. I keep the 9.5 and thought they felt good. I have worn them about 6 times trying to break them in, but they are just not comfortable. I have heard so many good things about Altra shoes and I want so bad to love them. The shoes are tight around the middle of my foot and becomes uncomfortable after about a couple of hours of wear. I just hate I am unable to be comfortable in them and have spent a lot of money for a shoe I can't wear.

I bought these for work after my Torin 6's bit the dust. I hoped they would be even cushier than the Torins, instead they feel stiffer and the toe box is narrower. Altra please make your toe boxes wide again. You're making me sad.

I have a pair of Olympus 2 and LOVE them. These are NOT the same - feel much smaller (even though the same size) and there is much less cushion. I will stick with the Olympus 2.

I bought these for the original wide foot bed in a 7. My toes were at the end so I got a size 7.5. My toes are still almost at the end, but I'm afraid of getting a bigger size. The other weird thing about these shoes is the sole. It feels like there are golf balls squeezing in at the front of both sides of the bottom of my heel. I wore them around the house for about 30 mins and my feet were pretty sore just from standing around in them. I was eager to take them off. I haven't run in them yet because of that. I'm on the verge of sending them back. Wish the sole in the back wasn't so uncomfortable. I need a wide shoe but the options are so limited, especially for women!

I have only worn Altras, for about 7 years. I wanted max cushion and an OG toe box. Sadly these shoes hurt my feet so, so bad. The shoe is so firm, and feels so stiff and narrow. Had to replace :(

I have been running in Paradigm 6s for years. I ordered these when on sale to have an extra training shoe for upcoming race season and was excited about the extra cushion of the shoe. These are very clunky, I feel like I'm in platform shoes. Far more stiff than cushion. I've tried running in them to break them in but thus far things sadly haven't improved. Not entirely sure what I will end up doing with these. Back to my favorite paradigms I go.

These were too small to start with but the main problem was the sole was so thick they felt like platform shoes- I was afraid of falling off. I should probably go look closer at the specs to see if this was in the description. I will be sending these back.

I thought these were going to be soft and comfortable - they were the opposite. The foam is hard and I felt like I was clopping like a horse down my street. These shoes are way too high to be this stiff. Maybe I got a bad batch or something, but I think I can't wear these again.

I got these for daily wear after reading about the wide toe box. They are my first Altras so I don't have anything to compare to, but I would expect a lot more cushion from the design and specs. After a couple months of wear I've noticed two things: my low back ALWAYS hurts after I wear these for an extended period of time, and I've worn narrow vertical holes in the heel of both that then give me blisters after a while. Anyway, I wish I would have read the 1 star reviews about the cushioning and sizing before I bought, I may have made a different choice.

I wanted to love these so badly, but something about the fit and construction around the heel causes horrendous blisters for me. It seems like the part of the sole that comes up and wraps around the heel rubs through the upper, causing gigantic friction blisters. I've tried lacing differently, wearing (super) thick socks nothing helps. So disappointed, because I like the cushioning these have for long days on my feet, but they're pretty much unwearable due to the inch+ large blisters I have on the inside and outside of both heels.
