I purchased thinking I would fall in love with this pair (Clifton 9). But I went for a 3 mile walk and I am not sure. Definitely a cushy ride, but something seems amiss. Seems to pinch (near heel) in a couple of spots but roomy in others (toes). Now that I wore once can I send back for a refund (if even possible) or shoe I just keep wearing and hope for the best??? Perhaps a different model would achieve the high level of comfort that I heard people rave about.

I bought these for work. The first day I wore them for a full shift, it felt uncomfortable. I thought I still had to break them in. I gave it a week and I walked a lot. My feet were so in pain by the end of each shift that by the end of the week, midday, I switched to my Converse Chucks! Yes, the flat shoes felt more comfortable! I was very unsatisfied, especially having to invest in this shoe because they're not cheap!

The Clifton 9 looks great, unfortunately they were too tight and painful. I've sent them back to exchange for a wide shoe.

Pros: Very Light
Cons: Waaay too cushiony for me. Felt like running on a trampoline in platform shoes. Going uphill on treadmill was like running in sand. I can see these would work well for standing all day if you have bad knees and/or hips, but moving in them was very uncomfortable for me, with the combination of the Hoka plane and all the cushioning.
I returned them and replaced with Saucony Ride 15, which were just about right for me.
I'd also recommend:
Brooks, Saucony, Altra

I loved my old Clifton 6's but the 8 was awful and I had hoped the 9 would be better. But sadly, these are not good, and I will move on to another brand because HOKA is not making as good a shoe as they used to. The Clifton 9 has a very uncomfortable shoehorn built into the back of the shoe. It also looks ridiculous when wearing the shoe because it sticks out so far in the back. For some reason the shoe just does not feel supportive or cushioned well enough and my metatarsals hurt after wearing them. I still have an old Clifton 6 that I bought a few years ago as an extra back up and I put them on, and they feel great. So HOKA Company perhaps you should go back to making shoes that built your loyal fan base because there are a lot of companies now making this type of shoe and from what I read in the reviews your base is moving on.

Received these Clifton 9's on 3/9 and wore them for my weekday walks (not runs) of up to 4mile/day (less than 20 miles/week). Loved them!
Then....on 4/17 (38 days!) I noticed a "wheeze" coming from the right shoe when I was walking. Checked it out and there is a whole in the sole of the right heel that I can put my index finger into and a "blowout" in the medial sidewall of the same heal.
Trying to process a warranty claim and the website keeps kicking me to a return (NOT warranty). Of course, after 7PM EST so no one is there to call to speak with so I guess have tot take time off at work tomorrow.....
Really kind of sad as I otherwise loved the shoes.

These are great shoes but I'm sending them back to try something a little less spongy and a little more sturdy.

I purchased these shoes to train and run in a race. Unfortunately they are to soft, I lose my balance from my right heel sinking into the soles of the shoe. They're very comfortable to stand in but not run, and I need them for running. I had to but another pair of shoes, I wish I could return them but I purchased them through Afterpay. I hope to find a different pair at a later time.

During running , it felt fine in terms of cushioning. But the edges of the shoe against the foot are poorly padded compared to the previous. So you feel the stiffness on your ankle. Enough to return it. Felt like a step back.

The Clifton 8 are some of the most comfortable shoes I've owned. Be aware the 9 is not the same. Leg and back pain after short walks the 8 never caused. The fit was the same so assuming if was a change to the sole / arch. Really like the Hoka return policy so not a big deal but should be aware.

Walking/exercise. Hoka has been my go to shoe. Last two pair I have issue with. This pair, rubbing my right heel. I have double spurs on both heels. Not good. Both pair, bottom of front of inside of shoe feels like it's wrinkled, not my socks, the shoe. Again constant discomfort.

I've run in the Clifton since the 6. I bought eleven pairs of the 8. It was my go-to shoe. Hoka improved the midsole ride with this update, and I like the modestly wider toe box. Used to get slight rubbing on the outside of my big toe, but that is gone. Midsole feels closer to the competition now albeit not quite Novablast springy. Unfortunately, the upper sits higher on the ankle collar and tighter to the top of the foot through the laces. That, combined with modestly less padding on a shorter tongue and around the collar has left me with pain on the front of both ankles. Started getting shin splints for the first time in years after 90 miles. Really sad to have to jump off the Clifton bandwagon. Would have happily bought another 10-15 pairs of this one over its life. I guess all good things come to an end . Odd note: My size 12 (both of them - I bought two right away - silly me) weighed three grams more (not less as advertised) than my last pair of the model 8 (with ~300 miles, I thought the latter would be heavier than out-of-the-box if anything). Suspect those who wanted a tighter lock down on the top of the foot will rejoice.

I have never had a pair of shoes fall apart as quickly as these. Would never recommend Hokas to anyone based on this experience.
