Been wearing trail gloves for a decade, endurance road and trail running. Merrell Go back to a minimal design and stick with a standard size. Still a great shoe but definitely a design regression and frustrating the sizing is so different between generations

A big step down from the previous trail glove. Not as comfortable, got normal with and they feel like extra wide. Don't look anywhere near as good as the 5s

The vapor has been a go to running shoe since the company started making them. In previous models, the fabric uppers would get holes in them before the rubber would wear out. We found the case to be different with the vapor 7’s. Our shoes arrived on August 1st, 2024 and it is only September 9th and there is a hole in the heel of the shoe and around the heel is bare of studs. Mileage estimate for this pair was around 50 miles. I am going to think twice about purchasing these shoes again due to their lack of durability.

Seconding the review of ResXzagr from April 27, 2023: TRAIL GLOVE 4 REMAINS UNSURPASSED! Oh the drama with the Trail Glove: Merrell had the best shoe out there and since then just insists on mucking around with this line. The 5 was a significant step down from the 4, and it feels since then they're trying to climb back out of the hole. My ranking is Trail Glove 4 > 7 > 6 > 5 Dear Merrell: the 4 was awesome, just leave it as it is, well maybe add the toe protection of the 7, the rubber-made "front-bumper" which covers some more of the toe box, but other than that, just go back to the Trail Glove 4 and call it an 8, 9, ... whenever you feel the need to change a number. If you had the nerve to stick it out, the Trail Glove 4 would have given you a cult following. Heck, raise the pice by 10 bucks if you need. Have Eliud Kipchoge run in them in a video. Whatever, just bring back the 4 puhleease! Legions of minimalist shoe enthusiasts will sing your praise. About my star ranking: in all categories, fit, durability, traction, and whatever else anyone can think up (except for that toebox protection), the Trail Glove 4 is the 5-star, so the 7 can only be a 4 star at best. But because Merrell steadfastly refuses to listen to its customers (and if you read to reviews deep enough until you find the people that knew the Trail Glove 4, you will eventually get to the truth that they have never surpassed that shoe), I knock them down two more stars. BRING BACK TRAIL GLOVE 4. Thank You!
I'd also recommend:
Altra, but Merrell remains better in my view (so far)

I tried to get into this barefoot hysteria, but my feet were having none of it after 30+ miles. So now they are destined to become house slippers. I forded creeks and slammed them into jagged sharp rock without a single complaint, the soles are great. The tread has held up admirably but the threads holding the laces have already begun to fall apart. My right shoe threads are literally falling apart in multiple areas. I would not recommend these to anyone wishing more than a month of use. I bought these at a Merrell store near me a month ago and might try to do an exchange. Junk.

Comfortable, debating buying another, however, I just checked my email for transaction date, and it's only 5 months (and I didn't wear them much in winter). Like others have commented, the outsole wears out crazy fast. I tend to buy a pair or two of knock around shoes each year for walks and light hiking. This was my first Trail Glove, so I can't speak of previous versions, however if the comfort of the could match the longevity of previous ones, sounds like a winner.

Bought in July, returned due to sizing , then wore through main sole by late August. I have worn a size 10 Merrell for over 15 years, I had to downsize to a 9.5, and it was still a loose fit. The design is great, but the sole wears away within a month. I have had Trail Glove 4, Trail Glove 5, Trail Glove 6, and this. The 4 was great; the 5 was very thin, but durable; the 6 was more robust than both, and a GREAT SHOE; the 7 was so disappointing. If Merrell is going to create a new version every year, they should talk to end users who actually walk and run every day in them (I do 7 miles a day).

I've been running in Trail Glove series shoes since 2011, and this new model of the shoe heralds the very first time I've experienced extreme discomfort while running in a pair of these once fantastic shoes. The first thing I noticed is that they run big, so I wore thicker socks, hoping to keep friction to a minimum, but no such luck. They shuffle around on my feet with every step, and don't feel stable at all like my previous TGs, and I now get hot spots within a couple of miles. They don't lace up as well as the older TGs, and the sole is WAY thicker, leaving me sort of bemused as to how they can still call this a barefoot shoe The previous TG shoes ran true to size, did not move around on your feet, and I never once felt any discomfort, hot spots or blisters even on the longer runs. If I had known these shoes were going to become larger, bulkier and less comfortable, I'd have bought five or six pairs of TG 3,4 and 5, which were all far better running shoes than these uncomfortable and clunky things. I'm now headed out to the secondary market to see if I can find some new old stock TGs from the previous generations. If I can't, then it's clear that I need to start looking elsewhere for my running shoes, which really leaves me disappointed now. I've depended on this model for half my career to carry me through countless physical fitness tests, 5K, 10K and Cola Warrior races, and it darn near breaks my heart to leave them behind. Go back to the basics, Merrell, and please bring us some real barefoot shoes again!

A lot of the lugs got very damaged after only 3-4 wears of playing disc golf. The outsoles got muddy really easily and had bad traction. They are very comfortable.

Was looking for a running shoe for the long haul with a lower stack height, and was informed about the TG7 from a fellow ultra runner. Wanted to love the shoe, but way too narrow in the mid-foot and forefoot, and I have narrow feet. Definitely not a foot shape design. Perfect amount of cushioning for paved and unpaved terrain, and very breathable and comfortable upper. Could be a great shoe, but it's not for me.

I just wanted a thicker sole Glove Barefoot shoe than luna glove wich is wonderfull. Too narrow in the toes, my toes want to go out of the shoes. Forces my foot to "slip" invard. Stupid modern back of the sole that sticks out too much. Narow barefoot shoe is kind of an oxymoron. I want trail glove 8 to snug my heel and go wide in the toe area like vapor glove 3. It looks and feels like an overpriced beach shoe. A big flops for me. An average shoe. I have expected much more from this online buy. Kind regards.

Quite narrow on my wide feet. The thin sole and zero drop did feel nice when trying them on though

Just got these shoes in and have been wearing for a few days. Better than the Trail 6 which I could not wear. I wanted a shoe like the Glove that could be used for rougher surfaces. The arches are not as pronounced and more like their Vapor and traditional Merrill designs. However the sizing is a mess. The arch fits well (11), but the toe area is massive and is too loose to wear without tightening up the front which changes the fit to become more uncomfortable. If the toe were a bit more snug like their other shoes I think it would be a slam dunk. You can see how it compares with my vapors.

I've had these 4 weeks. The MOST comfortable shoes I've ever owned - fantastic. BUT......just 4 weeks, less than 150km of parks and gentle forest trails and the outsole is completely bald in places. Is this normal or is this a problem with this model. PS...male size 44EU and I'm 80kg so not abnormal pressure on shoe

The shoes are pretty ok if its what you are looking for. The 2 star review is because the description/marketing of the shoe is misleading. This is not a barefoot style shoe. The outside toe box cuts in too soon so the 4th and 5th toes are restricted quite a bit. The arch of the foot bed is also raised a bit, pushing into my foot. Merrell should stop using the term barefoot in the description of this shoe.

This is not the same shoe as the past, the soles are very large now and are no longer the minimalistic shoe they used to produce. I wish I could reorder the old versions.

I tried them on and could not buy them. I have loved previous Trail Gloves and I was looking forward to this. I was disappointed in the narrow toe box. My skinny foot felt cramped just waking around in the store. I could not run in them. Definitely not a "Barefoot" shoe as advertised.

Previous versions of Trail Glove were barefoot shoes, but version 7 are not barefoot shoes. Narrow, drop over 0, thick sole. I am great fan of Merrell's barefoot shoes and my disappointment was enormous when I purchased them.

I’ve owned six pairs of Merrill Glove shoes. I’m so disappointed in these. They’re a full inch longer than my Trail Glove 6s. They must be mislabeled inside the shoe. I’m returning them and I don’t know what to do about my next trail. Barefoot shoes.

Soles disintegrated after one day on pahoehoe lava, you know - the ropey stuff. I think the rubber sole material is better suited for indoor court shoes than for the outdoors. Merrell, what were you thinking?
